The hybrid heat pump system of the air to air and / or air to water was composed and its COP was analyzed with the ambient temperature on the opened and closed loop system respectively. The results be indicated by the equation(7) that the COP(Coefficient of Performance) of air-source(air to air and / or air-water) heat pump is effected with the ambient air temperature and AVACTHE.(Automatic Variable Area Capillary Type Heat Exchanger) 2. The COP of air-to-water heat pump without AVACTHE decreased in accordance with the ambient temperature decrease, however in case of the heat pump with AVACTHE the COP was maintained at 2.8∼3.0 level when the ambient temperature decrease from -$5^{\circ}C$ to $-11^{\circ}C$. 3. The COP of the air-to-water heat pump operated on the open loop was higher 40∼58% than that of the heat pump operated on the close loop. 4. The lower ambient temperature air effect on the COP of the air-to-air heat pump operated on the semi closed loop could be controlled using the AVACTHE, and at the high ambient air temperature the COP increased using the Bypass circuit.

A simulation study was conducted to use city-water which is thermally regulated by unused energy as a heat source for urban dwellings. This study utilized multiple heat pump system using the city-water as a heat source and suggested a method of reducing the heat load of hot water supply. The simulation was done to calculate the energy savings at a dwelling for a year. The relation between the controlled temperature of city-water. and electric energy in all seasons was also investigated. Furthermore, it has been found that the controlled water system can lead to considerable energy savings and decrease environmental load such as sensible waste heat which otherwise would form heat islands.

To analyze and evaluate the performance of developing air to water multi heat pump, the heat pump was installed and tested at low energy house in Daejeon, korea. Heating capacity of heat pump is 16.5KW and cooling capacity is 14.0KW. Space heating/cooling, floor heating and hot water is available. The results performance evaluation of heat pump in lab test showed that the coefficient of performance (cop) was 3.75, and heating capacity was 16.0KW in ambient temperature $7^{\circ}C$. Also at ambient temperature $-15^{\circ}C$, the COP was 1.69. At a low energy house, floor heating is controled by a floor heating water temperature and a room temperature. The COP of heat pump is decreased with frequent on/off operation for controlling of floor heating water temperature.
A sea water source cascade heat pump was designed and tested in this study. The system was designed to perform a single stage operation in summer, as well as a cascade operation in winter to ensure the high temperature lift. A steady-state simulation model was developed to analyze and optimize its performance. The simulation results show that the R717 exhibits best performance among combinations considered in this study. A R410A also exhibits the highest performance among HFCs with the smallest compressor displacement. A 15-RT R410A-R134a pilot system was installed in the 5-story commercial building at Samcheok City by the East Sea. A scroll type R410A compressor, a reciprocating type R134a compressor, plate type condenser/evaporator/ cascade heat exchanger and two electronic expansion valves were used to build a pilot. A titanium plate type heat exchanger is also used for the heat exchanging with a sea water. The heat source/sink water is supplied from the well below the seashore in the depth of 5 m. In the initial test of the system, supply water temperature was rising up to $67^{\circ}C$ using a sea water heat source of $9^{\circ}C$, while an ambient temperature was $4.5^{\circ}C$.

A raw-water source heat pump equipped with a thermal storage tank was dynamically simulated by TRNSYS, and the results were verified by using the data from a heat pump installed in the Seongnam water treatment facility. The average coefficient of performance (COP) of the raw-water source heat pump based on simulation was 4.97 and 3.17 in the cooling and heating season, respectively. When the volume of the thermal storage tank was changed from 5 to $20m^3$, the highest COP was found at a size of $10m^3$. Considering the regional locations of raw-water source heat pumps at Seoul, Incheon, Gangneung, and Gwangju, Seoul showed the lowest electric power consumption in the cooling season and the highest in the heating season. When a comparison of the performance between the present system and that of a water-air heat pump was conducted, the present system showed lower electric power consumption by 25% than that of a water-air heat pump.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of a sea water heat source cascade heat pump system. R717(Ammonia) is used for a low-stage working fluid while R134a is for a high-stage. In order to gain a high temperature supply water in winter season, the system is designed to perform a cascade cycle. In this study, two experiments were carried out. One is a system starting test from the low load temperature of $10^{\circ}C$. The other is a system performance investigation over the R717 compressor capacity changes. Experimental results show that when it starts from the low load temperature, the suction temperature of the low-stage compressor is higher than that of a high-stage. The system performance increases when a water source temperature or a low-stage compressor rotational frequency goes higher.
This present study is to evaluate the cooling performance of a water-to-refrigerant ground source heat pump system(GSHP) under actually operating condition. 1 unit is selected among 10 units of the GSHP in the building to analyze the performance. The average cooling COP of the GSHP at the part load of 64% is 8.2, overall system COP is 6.19. In the GSHP system, the cooling temperature of the condenser is lower compared to the air source heat pump system. Conclusively, the cooling performance of the GSHP is higher than the air source heat pump system by 80%.
The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of the refrigerant charge amount on the performance of a water-to-water ground source heat pump with a variation of compressor speed and the secondary fluid flow rate. The water-to-water ground source heat pump was tested by varying refrigerant charge amount from -40% to 20% of full charge. Compressor speed was changed from 30 Hz to 75 Hz, and the secondary fluid flow rate was adjusted from 6 LPM to 14 LPM. For all test conditions, EWT of an indoor heat exchanger and an outdoor heat exchanger were maintained at standard conditions of ISO 13256-2. The slope of the COP with the variation of charge amount is much steeper at undercharged conditions than that at overcharged conditions. For all compressor speed, the variation of the system performance according to charge amounts showed the similar trends. However, the optimum charge amount of the system increased a little with an increment of compressor speed. When the secondary fluid flow rate decreased, the system optimized at higher refrigerant charge amount conditions.

In the present study, fuel cell driven ground source heat pump system is applied to a large community building and performance of the heat pump system is computationally analyzed. Conduction heat transfer between brine pipe and ground is analyzed by TEACH code to predict the performance of heat pump system. Predicted COP of the heat pump system and the energy cost were compared with variation of the location of the objective building the water saturation rate of soil and the driven powers of heat pump system. Significant reduction of energy cost can be accomplished by employing the fuel cell driven heat pump system in comparison with the late-night electricity driven system. It is due to the low electricity production cost of fuel cell system and the application of recovered waste heat generated during electricity production process to the heating of large community building.

In this study, the technologies and regulations for distributing standing column well(SCW) ground source heat pump systems to the residential cluster homes were investigated. They have only been installed in the public or commercial building having different load pattern and site structure compared with the residential cluster homes. Some of SCWs for the residential cluster homes should be installed under the basement due to a lack of site area. There are pressure differences between the SCWs installed under ground surface and basement. It is needed to develop the technology or devices to prevent overflow caused by pressure difference among the SCWs. In addition, heat balance algorithm between SCWs should be adopted to maximize the system efficiency. A heat pump having heating, cooling, hot water, heating-hot water, and cooling-hot water modes should be developed for adopting an individual air-conditioning system to the residential cluster homes.
