  • Up to now, the various water proofing methods and materials have been developed. For the water proofing methods, poly-urethane membrane method is one of the commonly used and increase market share in water proofing industry due to it's many advantages. However, in spite of it's many advantages over other water proofing methods, water proofing defect occurs frequently. With this respect, the study investigate water proofing defect causes in roof water proofing. The study investigate 13 water proofing construction site in Sunchon city in oder to find urethane membrane defection causes and their type. As a results of the study, the followings are founded. 1) Among various water proofing defection causes, problems of water remain phenomenon due to surface horizontal level defect which occupy $25\;\%$ of total defect causes is the most commonly occur. 2) The second defect cause which occupy $15\;\%$ of total defect causes is the swell up phenomenon due to surface dry problem. For the prevention of water proofing defection in roof using urethane membrane, the followings are recommended. 1) Faultless surface treatment before using urethane membrane 2) Develop improved urethane membrane material 3) Improve urethane membrane construction technique

  • This study comparatively analyzed thermal characteristics of the green color, which is currently used the most, and other various colors of a rooftop urethane water proofing sheet. This study also analyzed the cooling performance by color of the water proofing sheet that fused cooling paints, and presented the effective water proofing sheet color for building energy savings. The experimental results are as follows: (1) The value of L (brightness) diminished, and brilliance also became lower from the white color to the black color, and thus, it was confirmed that relatively more heat was absorbed. In a and b chromaticity, which is the color attribute that ignores brightness, no special relationship was identified. (2) Considering that the cooling performance effect is bigger in summer than winter, due to heat reflection, the white water proofing sheet is more effective in building energy savings than the green water proofing sheet that is currently used the most. (3) The water proofing sheet's color has an impact more on cooling performance than the color of the background side of a structure on which water proofing sheet is installed. The experiment object of gray, of which background side is similar to cement mortar, was lower by $5.7^{\circ}C$ than the white background side.

  • This paper examined the water repellency, water proofing and water vapor permeability of twelve types of woven fabrics for sports wear clothing. Their physical properties were compared and discussed with the fabric structural parameters and surface finishing effect. A water repellent property of 100% was obtained in the coated or laminated water repellent finished fabrics; in addition, cotton/nylon breathable composite fabrics treated with a laminated finishing and with low fabric density showed a 90% water repellency. Water proofing fabric above 6,000 mm H2O hydraulic pressure was achieved by coated or laminated finishing; however, high density fabric or medium-level coated fabrics exhibited 100% water repellent and low water proofing characteristics. Superior water vapor permeability characteristics with good water repellency and proofing properties were achieved at the 2.5 layered low density and with 0.7 - 0.9 cover factor nylon fabrics treated with hydrophilic laminated finishing. The regression analysis for examining the effects of fabric structural parameters and surface finishing such as coating and laminating to the water vapor permeability exhibited a high determination coefficient of fabric structural parameters of 63.5%; in addition,, main factors among fabric structural parameters appeared to be cover factor and fabric thickness per weight. Coating and Laminating factors exhibited determination coefficient of water vapor permeability parameters of 36.5%.

  • The comprehensive performance of the water-proofing materials which are sealer, liquid and preformed membranes were investigated as basic experimental data for guide line of field workers. The water-proofing performance, shear strength and bond strength were tested under the ambient temperature of $20^{\cire}C$ and after 60 cycles of freezing and thawing ($-17.8^{\cire}C$~$4^{\cire}C$, 6cycle/day). The performance includes workability, permeability, cost and the influence of water-proofing materials to environment.

  • This study is the things to experiment and evaluate the performance of self-healing water-proofing on the concrete to be using the crystal growth composite waterproofing admixture. The cylinder to be making on the concrete by ${\varnothing}150{\times}300$ mm for evaluating the performance of self-healing water-proofing was aging 90 days and cut on a 50 mm. So, it prompted the crack and applied. After it measured the quantity of water to be flow the water throughout the crack part of the cylinder, it applied the basic formular of Darcy's law and calculated the coefficient of water permeability. So, it verified the performance of self-healing water-proofing on the basis of the changing shape of the water permeability. This experiment is the thing to be applied the general evaluation of the structure to demand the real watertightness on doing for the evaluating of performance of the quantity of water leak and self-healing water-proofing about the various penetration crack.

  • We have prepared diamine-benzoquinone polymer which was known to excellent water proofing, high adhesion strength and good anti-corrosive effect, and have investigate with the possibility of application as a high performance resin for coatings. First of all, the reactivity of diamine-benzoquinone has been described an example of polymer reaction with research trend. The polymer reaction was divided into the polymerization with several diamine-benzoquinone and urethane group. The synthetic resin was shown a high solubility. In case of polymer containing urethane, water absorption content, water proofing and mechanical properties were controlled with the content, water proofing and mechanical properties were controlled with the content of quinone. It was shown that an use of choice was a possible result for various coatings. Diamine-quinone polymer can be used as a new resin for coatings. In addition, the polymer containing a functional group was shown a useful applicability as a high performance resin.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between the water resistance and the air permeability. The results are as follows; 1. In case of the water proofing fabrics, We cannot find that there is any relationship between the water resistance and the air permeability according to the kinds of finishing, while in case of the water repellent finished fabries, we can find that there is a correlationship between them, especially the hydrostatic pressure and the air permeability are found to have negative correlation. 2. In case of the water proofing fabrics, the relationship between the water resistance and the air permeability is not affected by the thickness of the fabrics. On the other hand, in case of the water repellent finished fabrics, the relationship between them is affected by the thickness of the fabrics. Especially, the relationship between the hydrostatic pressure and the air permeability as well as the relationship between the water repellency and the air permeability is effect much by the thickness of the fabrics, too. 3. In case of the water proofing fabrics, the relationship between the water resistance and the air permeability is not affected by fabric count. On the otherhand, in case of the water repellent finished fabrics, the relationship between them is affected by the fabric count. Especially, the relationship between hydrostatic pressure and the air permeability, and the relationship between the water proof and the air permeability are affected much by fabric count.

  • This paper dealt with the synthesis and characterization of the polymeric product by the reaction of the water-soluble poly(vinyl alcohol)[PVA] nonwoven fabrics and the phosphoryl chloride ($POCl_3$), which has been applied to prepare water-proofing materials or intermediates for increasing water-proofing or fire-proofing ability of commercially available water-soluble PVA support layer. $POCl_3$ was reacted with PVA nonwoven fabrics under non-aqueous condition, and their reactivity, and chemical structure were checked and discussed. PVA was reacted with $POCl_3$ under the reaction condition of 1:1, or 1:2 mole ratios at 70, 80 and $90^{\circ}C$, and the reaction products were further hydrolyzed. The structure of the resulting products from water soluble PVA nonwoven fabrics reacted with $POCl_3$ were identified by FT-IR or X-ray fluorescence spectrophotometer, and they indicated the PVA polymer chains to have phosphorous and chlorine moieties.
