The purpose of this study was to compare the thermophysiological responses and subjective sensations of clothing materials with different water transfer property investigated in exercising and resting subjects at an ambient temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and a relative humidity of 40%. Two kinds of clothing ensemble were tested: 100% cotton with highly water-absorbent but slowly dry properties(C) and 100% polyester with quickly water-absorbent and dry properties by four capillary channels(QADP). Seven apparently healthy male participants each undertook two series of experiments comprised 10-min of rest, 20-min of exercise with 70% of $VO_{2max}$ on a treadmill and 20-min of recovery. Mean skin temperature was significantly lower in QADP than in C during exercise and recovery. Clothing microclimate temperature was significantly lower in QADP during exercise and clothing surface temperature was also lower in QADP especially during recovery. Also, clothing surface humidity was significantly higher in QADP after the later half of exercise. The concentration of blood lactic acid tended to decrease to a lower level at recovery 3 minutes when wearing QADP rather than C clothing ensemble. Metabolic energy was marginally significantly less during the second half of exercise in QADP. Body mass loss tended to be greater in C than in QADP. The participants had better scores in thermal sensation, comfortable sensation and wetness in QADP during exercise and recovery. These results show that functional materials with quickly water-absorbent and dry properties can alleviate heat strain and induce more comfortable clothing microclimates and subjective sensations in the exercise-induced hyperthermia.
PURPOSE : This study attempts to find the effects of water perturbation exercise performed on stroke patients in their physiological cost index and gait ability tests. METHOD : The subjects were 30 stroke patients, water perturbation exercise group was performed 3 day per week, for 40 minutes a day, for a period of eight weeks. The physiological cost index and gait of all subjects were assessed by using the polar, 6 Minute Walk Test (6MWT), and 10 meter Walk Test(10mWT) at pre training and post training. Paired t-test was used to analyze change before and after intervention in group. Pearson's correlation was used to analyze correlation of all variables. RESULT : Water perturbation exercise group showed increased physiological cost index. Water perturbation exercise increased gait ability, showing a significant difference. Showing the correlation between the relatively high amount between physiological cost index and 6 minutes walking test. CONCLUSION : From the result of the study, we found that water perturbation exercise was effective in improving physiological cost index and gait ability. The patient is considered to be used by itself to involve the treatment and the risk of falling from the lowered state into the treatment method for the intensive treatment of stroke patients to be useful in improving the cardiovascular system and ability to walk. Through underwater training for stroke patients in the future on the basis of this study it is considered to require additional clinical studies on the impact on daily living and quality of life of stroke patients.
[Purpose] The combined effect of different types of post-exercise treatment has not been fully explored. We investigated the effect of combined cold water immersion (CWI) and compression garment (CG) use after maximal eccentric exercise on maximal muscle strength, indirect muscle damage markers in the blood, muscle thickness, and muscle soreness score 24 h after exercise. [Methods] Ten men performed two trials (CWI + CG and CON) in random order. In the CWI + CG trial, the subjects performed 15 min of CWI (15℃), followed by wearing of a lower-body CG for 24 h after exercise. In the CON trial, there was no post-exercise treatment. The exercise consisted of 6 × 10 maximal isokinetic (60°·s-1) eccentric knee extensions using one lower limb. The maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) and maximal isokinetic (60°·s-1) strength during knee extension, as well as the indirect muscle damage markers, were evaluated before exercise and 24 h after exercise. [Results] The maximal muscle strength decreased in both trials (p < 0.001), with no difference between them. The exercise-induced elevation in the myoglobin concentration tended to be lower in the CWI + CG trial than in the CON trial (p = 0.060). The difference in the MVC, maximal isokinetic strength, muscle thickness, and muscle soreness score between the trials was not significant. [Conclusion] CWI followed by wearing of a CG after maximal eccentric exercise tended to attenuate the exercise-induced elevation of indirect muscle damage markers in the blood.
PURPOSE: This study examined the effects of breathing exercise in the water on the pulmonary function and maximum phonation time in children with cerebral palsy. METHODS: The subjects were 24 children with cerebral palsy at GMFCS levels I-III, who were allocated randomly to either the aquatic breathing exercise group or general breathing exercise group 12 subjects per group. Each subject was required to complete 40 minutes of exercise twice a week for eight weeks. Those in the aquatic breathing exercise group performed aquatic breathing exercise, whereas those in the general breathing exercise group performed general aquatic exercise. RESULTS: Significant differences in $FEV_1$, PEF, VC, TV, ERV, and maximum phonation time were observed in the aquatic breathing exercise group after intervention, but there were no significant differences in either FVC, $FEV_1/FVC$, IC, or IRV. In the general breathing exercise group, there were no significant differences in the FVC, $FEV_1$, $FEV_1/FVC$, PEF, VC, IC, TV, IRV, ERV, and maximum phonation time after intervention. In terms of the pulmonary function, the two groups showed a significant difference in the change in $FEV_1$, PEF, and TV after intervention, but not in the FVC, $FEV_1/FVC$, VC, IC, ERV, IRV, and maximum phonation time. CONCLUSION: These results above show that aquatic breathing exercise training in water is more effective in improving the pulmonary function than general breathing exercise training.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effective recovery method of exercise-induced fatigue and muscle pain by comparing the effect of the use of illite hot mat product and general hot mat product on the recovery of muscle pain induced by high intensity exercise. Methods : To measure and analyze the changes in lactic acid, CRP, and ACR according to the high-intensity circuit training program, this study was conducted for the healthy adult men and women, who exercise st the K-region sports center. A total of 45 subjects were studied in 15 groups of 15 patients who received an illite hot-water mat recovery group (A group), 15 general hot-water mat recovery group (B group), and 15 control group (C group). The circuit training exercise program was conducted as a one-time exercise, and each exercise time consisted of 30 minutes of warm-up exercise, 5 minutes of main exercise, 20 minutes of clean-up exercise, and 5 minutes of strength exercise. The intensity setting was high intensity of subjective exercise intensity It carried out by setting to (14-16RPE). Results : Changes in Lactic Acid Concentration There was a significant difference in the lactic acid concentrations between the groups after the high intensity circuit training program (p <.05). The illite rest group (A) decreased 7.71 mmol / L and the control group decreased 4.03 mmol / L. Significantly decreased (p <.05). Changes in ACR Concentration. There was a significant difference in the ACR concentrations Significant differences were found in CRP and ACR during the recovery period after exercise. (p <.05), the elite rest group (A) decreased 2.47 mg / mmol, and the control group increased 1.63 mg / mmol. There was a significant difference (p <.05). Conclusion: The static rest on a heated mat after high-intensity exercise has an effect on changes in blood lactate and ACR levels.
Objective: To investigate the effect of long-term water exercise on gait parameters in the elderly post stroke patients. Design: One group pretest-posttest design. Methods: Twenty elderly post stroke patients (age: $56.5{\pm}10.1$ years, height: $168.6{\pm}5.8cm$, body mass: $69.3{\pm}6.9kg$, handicapped level: $2.5{\pm}0.8$) participated in this study. Participants took part in gait training of 1 hour per day, three days per week, for three months. Participants' gaits were analyzed to find the effect of 3 months water exercise by a 3-D motion analysis with 8 infrared camera and 1 force plate (sampling frequency: 100 and 1,000 Hz, respectively). A paired t-test was used to find the significance with significant level as 0.05. Results: Gait velocity, step length & step width significantly increased, and asymmetric index for gait parameters significantly decreased after the water exercise (p<0.05). Conclusions: The water exercise effectively affect on patients' gait ability and electromyography analysis will be needed further study.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the pre- and post-exercise performance, edema, and pain of plyometrics in water and land environments. Twelve males in their 20s were selected as subjects and performed 10 sets of squat jumps 10 times in 2 environmental conditions (water and ground). There was no significant difference in iEMG of vastus medilais according to exercise conditions and time. In MPV of CMJ, there was no significant difference according to exercise conditions and time. The thigh circumference showed a significant difference according to the exercise condition and time, and was higher in the ground condition after exercise. There was a significant difference in pain according to the exercise condition and time, and it was found to be high after exercise, 48 hours, and 72 hours in the ground condition. We believe that plyometric training in an aquatic environment will have less swelling and pain compared to plyometric training conducted in a land environment, and the pain will improve quickly, so we think that training can be conducted in a relatively shorter period than in the land environment.
Purpose: With an increase of concerns towards leisure activities, water sport participation is constantly increasing. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of exercise commitment on leisure satisfaction. Research design, data, and methodology: To accomplish the purpose, the study collected data from undergraduate students who participated water sports class in University. The sample was extracted by purposive sampling of nonprobability sampling. 281 students participated in the survey. Data were computed via correlation test, factor analysis, Cronbach's α test, one way ANOVA, and regression. Significance of all results was set to p<.05. Results: The results are like below. Frist, in terms of differences by demographics, the results indicated that significant difference between exercise commitment and leisure satisfaction by gender was shown only in psychological factor in leisure satisfaction. Second, in terms of the relationship between commitment and satisfaction, the findings pointed out that significant difference between exercise commitment and leisure satisfaction by grade was observed only in leisure satisfaction, especially on the educational part. Third, the study revealed that no significant difference by participation level was shown. Conclusions: In conclusion, the study posits that exercise commitment play a function in increasing the leisure satisfaction. Further implications were discussed.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference in the number of repetitions and the change in electromyographic response during the maximum speed squat exercise according to the depth conditions and the maximum speed squat exercise according to the time of each depth. Ten men in their 20s were selected as subjects and the maximum speed squat was performed for one minute in three environmental conditions (ground, knee depth, waist depth). We found that the number of repetitions according to the depth of water showed a significant difference, and as a result of the post-mortem comparison, the number of repetitions was higher in the ground condition and the knee depth than in the waist depth. And the muscle activity of rectus abdominis, erector spinae, rectus femoris, biceps femoris was increased during ground squat exercise, activity of all muscle was decreased during knee depth squat exercise, and activity of rectus abdominis, erector spinae, biceps femoris, tibialis anterior, gastrocnemius was decreased during waist depth squat. In conclusion, muscle activity of lower extremities during squat exercise in underwater environment can be lowered as the depth of water is deep due to buoyancy, but muscle activity of trunk muscles can be increased rather due to the effect of viscosity and drag.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the water requirement of exercising sheep. Nine Merino ewes were allocated into three groups differing in water supply after exercise, group 1(G1) supplied water ad libitum, group 2 (G2) supplied with water twice a day, and group 3 (G3) supplied with water once a day. The ewes were exercised outdoors using a circular exercising machine at a speed of 5 km/h for 1 hour for 12 consecutive days. Total daily water intake (TDWI) of animals in G3 was significantly lower (p < 0.05) than that of those in G1 and G2. TDWI of the 2 later groups was not different. TDWI of G3 was about 60% of that of G1. Feed intake of G3 was significantly (p < 0.05) lower than that of the other two groups. Immediately after exercise, rectal temperature (RT) of animals in G1 was significantly (p < 0.05) lower than those in the other groups. Respiration rate (RR) of animals in all three groups was not significantly different. Faecal moisture of animals in G3 was significantly lower (p < 0.05) than those in the other groups. The results indicate that for optimum productivity sheep should be given water at least twice a day.
