An experimental study was conducted to evaluate the treatment efficiency of paper-mill wastewater using pure oxygen activated sludge process. Effects of hydraulic retention time (HRT) and organic loading on process performance and kinetics were investigated. The raw paper-mill wastewater(BOD concentration ${\leq}500mg/L$) and the effluent from dissolved air flotation(DAF) treatment(BOD concentration ${\geq}500mg/L$) were used as influent for pure oxygen activated sludge process. Average BOD removal efficiencies were above 89.3% under 6hours or longer of HRT, while under 3hours of HRT they decreased to about 82%. With the effluent from DAF process, the half saturation constants($K_S$) and the maximum specific substrate removal rate($K_{max}$) were 85 mg/L and 2.25 L/day, respectively. However, with the raw paper-mill wastewater, both $K_S$ and $K_{max}$ increased to 156 mg/L and 3.84 L/day, respectively. The microbial yield coefficient(Y) and the decay coefficient($K_d$) were 0.46 gVSS/gBOD and 0.03 L/day, respectively, with effluent from DAF process. While, Y and $K_d$ were 0.24 gVSS/gBOD and 0.035 L/day, respectively, with the raw paper-mill wastewater.

Dye wastewater generally contains strong color and non-biodegradable materials. Therefore, the conventional wastewater treatment plant can hardly meet the regulation of wastewater effluent water. In this study, a pilot plant of the conventional process followed by advanced oxidation process (AOP), was set up to treat the dying wastewater. The treatment efficiencies on the various candidate processes, such as ozone alone, UV alone, ozone/UV, $ozone/H_2O_2$, $H_2O_2/UV$ and $ozone/UV/H_2O_2$, were investigated in the various ozone and $H_2O_2$ doses. As the results, the $ozone/H_2O_2$ process, among the tested processes, showed the highest efficiency for removing color and $COD_{Cr}$. For color removal, the ozone alone process was enough without combining UV or $H_2O_2$. No significantly enhanced efficiency for removing color and $COD_{Cr}$ by UV irradiation was observed because of the very low transmittance of UV light in dye wastewater.
The purpose of this study was done to evaluate degradation characteristics of non-biodegradable organic matters including aromatic compounds in livestock wastewater using CFZ process. The CFZ process is consisted of coagulation/sedimentation, Fenton oxidation and zeolite adsoption process. degradation charateristics of each treatment water including livestock wastewater were analyzed by UV scanning, FT-IR and GC/MS. After coagulation/sedimentation process as 1st treatment, non-biodegradable matters remained after 1st treatment were removed by using OH radical produced in Fenton oxidation process. As a result of treatment using these processes, NBDCOD removal efficiency was over 90%. Increase of $E_2/E_3$ ratio (absorbance at 250 and 365 nm) in each treatment water means that aromaticity of livestock wastewater decreased. In case of GC/MS, most aromatics or polynuclear aromatics like benzene, phenol and scatol in livestock wastewater almost wasn't detected after oxidation using OH radical.

Occurrence of process environment changes, such as influent load variances and process condition changes, can reduce treatment efficiency, increasing effluent water quality. In order to prevent exceeding effluent standards, it is necessary to manage effluent water quality based on process operation data including influent and process condition before exceeding occur. Accordingly, the development of the effluent water quality prediction system and the application of technology to wastewater treatment processes are getting attention. Therefore, in this study, through the multi-channel measuring instruments in the bio-reactor and smart multi-item water quality sensors (location in bio-reactor influent/effluent) were installed in The Seonam water recycling center #2 treatment plant series 3, it was collected water quality data centering around COD, T-N. Using the collected data, the artificial intelligence-based effluent quality prediction model was developed, and relative errors were compared with effluent TMS measurement data. Through relative error comparison, the applicability of the artificial intelligence-based effluent water quality prediction model in wastewater treatment process was reviewed.

As water becomes more scarce around the world the reuse of treated wastewater is being recenlty considered as indispensible trend we need to follow. Especially, industrial area consuming large amount of water has been encouraged to reuse the treated wastewater to secure sufficient water for the production of merchandise. In this study, a study of advanced oxidation process for treatment of industrial wastewater. The treatment performance of UV and ozoznation and five types advanced oxidation processes such as UV/AC, UV/Catalyst, $O_3$/Catalyst, UV/$O_3$/Catalyst was experimentally investigated for reuse of industrial wastewater. The removal efficiency of $COD_{Cr}$, color were relatively evaluated in each treatment unit simulated outflow water of wastewater treatment area. UV/$O_3$/Catalyst process showed the highest $COD_{Cr}$ remaval and color remaval among proposed oxidation process.
Wastewater process models are the essential tools for understanding relevant aspects of wastewater treatment system. Wastewater process modeling provides more options for upgrades and better understanding of new plant design, as well as improvements of operational controls. The software packages (BioWin, GPS-X, Aqua designer, etc) solve a series of simulated equations simultaneously in order to propose several solutions for a specific facility. Research and implementation of wastewater process modeling in combination with computational fluid dynamics enable testing for improvements of flow characteristics for WWTP and at the same time exam biological, physical, and chemical characteristics of the flow. Application of WWTP models requires broad knowledge of the process and expertise in modeling. Therefore, an efficient and good modeling practice requires both experience and set of proper guidelines as a background.
Three types dyeing wastewater (dark, medium, light color) discharged from cotton textile dyeing with reactive dye was collected at each step of process. Each process dying wastewater was analyzed and treated by ionized gas. The analysis focused on $COD_{Cr}$, SS and color. Bleaching & scouring process wastewater has the highest $COD_{Cr}$ value in the three type dyeing wastewater. SS shows the highest value at dyeing process wastewater in dark and medium color but light color has at finishing process wastewater. The result of process wastewater treatment by ionized gas was that the ionized gas was effective in $COD_{Cr}$ removing of bleaching & scouring process and finishing process wastewater but was not good at dyeing process wastewater. From that result it is estimated that the ionized gas could not work in opening the aromatic ring and react only in aliphatic component of the molecule. Because the surfactants contained in bleaching & scouring process and finishing process wastewater have only one aromatic ring in its molecular structure, in contrast with the reactive dye compounds consist of aromatic rings great part of its molecular structure. The color almost removed in 1.5 hrs reaction time but $COD_{Cr}$ removal effiency was only 30.7% through 3hrs in 1500 mL of total dyeing wastewater treated by 10 L/min ionized gas.

The purpose of this study is to identify the possibility of the CMP wastewater treatment from semiconductor fabrication under operating tubular membrane with coagulants. To find suitable coagulants treating CMP wastewater, we conducted Jar-test. After Jar-test experiments suitable coagulants are PAC(17%), $Ca(OH)_2$ and optimum coagulant dosage is PAC(17%) 10mg/L, $Ca(OH)_2$ 110 ~ 120mg/L. Based on these results, the tubular membrane was applied to CMP wastewater, the turbidity removal efficiency is $Ca(OH)_2$ > PAC(17%) > Nothing. The fast cross-flow velocity and backwash process what are operating characteristics of tubular membrane can be stable CMP wastewater treatment. But when the coagulant and tubular membrane are used at the same time, the withdraw and treatment of the CMP wastewater are possibile. However further treatment process needs if treated water will be used for semiconductor fabrications.
In this research, biological treatability test was conduced using seawater flocculated tannery wastewater by fixed biofilm reactor. During one cycle, the removal efficiency of organic corbon obtained with fixed biofilm process for treating tannery wastewater was considerably greater than that with activated sludge process. As the hydraulic retention time increased form 0.5day to 4day, removal efficiency of organic carbon was increased from 72% to 87.3%. Attached biomass in media increased with influent organic loading up to 29g MLSS/L, that could reduce the specific organic loading rate. The continual measurement of attached biomass was possible for the operation of the biofilm reactor. Equal and low nitrication rates were observed in both suspended growth activated sludge process and fixed biofilm process, despite commercial nitrifier was seeded. Through the process of treating the tannery wastewater, EC50 values which is measured by the use of Ceriopdaphnia dubia, were decreased to the extent of 50% after treatment of seawater flocculation and of 83% after biological treatment, respectively, compared to those of the untreated wastewater.
The objective of this study was to remove non-biodegradable matters and ammonia ion in livestock wastewater using Fenton oxidation and Zeolite adsorption process. After coagulation process as 1st treatment, non-biodegradable matters remained after 1st treatment were removed by using OH radical produced in Fenton oxidation process. Zeolite as cation adsoption process was used to remove ammonia ion in 2nd treatment water. As a result of treatment using these processes, NBDCOD removal efficiency was over 90% and ammonia ion was almost removed. Most aromatics or polynuclear aromatics like benzene, phenol and scatol in livestock wastewater wasn't detected after Fenton oxidation process.
