음식쓰레기 퇴비가 감나무 작황에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Food-Waste Compost on the Crops of Persimmon Fruits)

  • 음식물쓰레기 퇴비사용에 따른 감 과실의 특성 변화는 경도, 당도 등이 증가하였으며, 상주둥시의 경우 색이 더욱 밝아지고 과육이 황색 빛을 많이 띄게 되고, 갑주백목의 경우 색이 다소 어두워지는 반면 붉은색을 많이 띄는 특징을 나타내었다. Total phenol 함량과 가용성 탄닌은 음식물쓰레기 및 음식물 퇴비 처리에 의해 감소하는 경향을 나타내어 떫은맛이 다소 줄어들리라 판단되었고, 비타민 C의 함량이 일반비료에 비해 증가하여 상큼한 맛을 더 많이 느끼게 될 것이라 생각되었다. 음식물쓰레기 퇴비사용에 따른 수확한 감과실의 저장성을 검토하여본 결과 상온저장 시에는 음식물 쓰레기 처리에 의한 저장성의 증대는 기대하기 어려웠으나 저온저장 시에는 음식물 쓰레기 퇴비 처리에 의해 경도가 상당기간 유지되는 것으로 나타나 음식물 쓰레기 퇴비사용이 상온저장조건에서 미치는 영향은 크지 않으나, 저온저장조건에서는 감과육의 물성 및 성분 조성에 효과적인 영향을 미칠 수 있다고 판단된다.

  • Korean government plans to establish large-scale horticulture facility complexes using reclaimed land in order to improve the national competitiveness of agriculture at the government level. One of the most significant problems arising from the establishment of those large-scale horticulture facilities is that these facilities still largely depend on a fossil fuel and they require 24 h a day heating during the winter season in order to provide the necessary breeding conditions for greenhouse crops. These facilities show large energy consumption due to the use of coverings with large heat transmission coefficients such as vinyl and glass during heating in the winter season. This study investigated the applicability of waste heat from power plant for large-scale horticulture facilities by evaluating the waste heat water temperature, heat loss and energy saving performance as a function of distance between power plant and greenhouse. As a result, utilizing power plant waste heat can reduce the energy consumption by around 85% compared to the conventional gas boiler, regardless of the distance between power plant and greenhouse.

  • 최근 폐열에너지와 스마트 그리드 연계를 통한 에너지 효율 향상 기술 수요가 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 또한 컨테이너 온실을 이용한 식물공장 개념의 스마트팜과 폐열 에너지의 실시간 활용을 위한 융합기술에 대한 연구를 통하여 고부가가치 작물을 재배에 대한 투자가 증가하고 있다. 이런 관점에서 에너지 효율 측면에서 LED 기반의 식물공장에 대한 경제성을 높여 농가에 실질적인 도움이 되는 실용화 기술에 대한 연구를 수행 하였다. 이는 향후 자동화될 대규모의 스마트 팜과 연계할 수 있는 기회를 제공할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 폐열 에너지를 이용한 컨테이너 온실에서 냉방기술을 이용하여 작물재배의 경제성에 대한 연구이다. 컨테이너 온실, 폐열을 이용한 흡수식 냉동기를 IOT 기술을 이용하여 실시간 모니터링/제어하기 위하여 라즈베리 파이 기반의 게이트웨이를 모바일 기반에서 운영함으로써 냉방 에너지의 효용을 최대화 할 수 있는 새로운 형태의 농업 기술에 대한 연구를 제안하고자 한다.

Effect of organic fertilizer mixed with dehydrated food waste powder on growth of leaf lettuce

  • The amount of food waste generated in Republic of Korea has been increasing alongside an increasing population and booming economy as such, research on effective treatment and recycling is required. Food waste recycling is complicated by its inferior characteristics such as high levels of water and concern that its continuous application to farmland can lead to salt accumulation and concomitant damage crops. In the present study, therefore, dehydrated food waste powder (FWP), which contains a large amount of organic matter and nutrients, but which may require additional improvements was mixed in various ratios with organic fertilizers and the mixtures were tested for their effects on the growth of the leaf lettuce. A control was set up with inorganic fertilizers alone while a treatment with only FWP was also included. The mixture of FWP and organic fertilizers produced better leaf lettuce growth in all the treatments than the control and FWP. The fresh weight of the leaf lettuce produced with a mixture containing 60% FWP was 50% higher than that of the control. The results from this study indicate, therefore, that FWP mixed with other organic supplements in appropriate amounts positively impacts crop growth and development.

석회안정화 방법을 이용한 돈사분뇨공공처리시설에서 발생하는 탈수슬러지의 퇴비화 (Composting using the Lime Stabilization of Dewatering Sludge from Centralized Swine Wastewater Treatment Facility)

  • Dewatering sludge using inorganic chemicals with polymer has been evaded for reuse on account of the risks of high heavy metals contained and soil acidification. Composting feasibility of coagulation & dewatering sludges produced from livestock waste treatment plant was investigated. The results of analysis prove that dewatering sludge is valuable matter with suitable elements for composting if high quality ferric chloride ($FeCl_3$) is used for coagulation & dewatering process. In pot-cultivation of harvestes, using effects of dewatering sludge improved with lime treatment was very effective. The results of pot-cultivation proved that harms of crops according to different acid tolerances were not detected. But it was not applied to crops with weak acid tolerance or greenhouse for free from gas damage. Also, Further studies and monitorings are necessary to use sludges because results of pot-cultivation were generated differently by characteristics of soil, nutrient demand of plants, mature degree of sludge, consecutive cultivation and etc.

경남지역 딸기, 토마토, 파프리카 양액재배에 따른 발생부하량 비교 (Comparison of Generated Loads by Hydroponics of Strawberry, Tomato, and Paprika in Gyeongsangnam-do)

  • The objective of this study was to analyze the waste nutrient generation loads from hydroponics for three major crops in Gyeongsangnam-do. Study hydroponic farms were selected for the three major crops such as paprika, strawberry, tomato based on the agricultural statistics data and field investigation. The flow amount and water quality for inflow and outflow of study hydroponic farms were monitored and analyzed on a monthly basis. Monitored samples were analyzed in terms of DO, BOD, T-N, T-P, SS, and EC. The generated load of BOD, T-N, and T-P were calculated from the monitored flow and water quality. The monitoring results showed that the drainage ratio for the circular hydroponic farm was lower than the non-circular hydroponic farm because the outflow from the circular hydroponics were much lower than that from the non-circular. The generated load calculation results showed that the BOD tended to have a smaller value than the TMDLs guideline for land, while T-N and T-P showed higher value than that from the TMDLs guideline. In order to effectively manage the pollutant load discharged from the hydroponics farming complex, it is necessary to manage the non-circulating hydroponics farm. To improve water quality, it is necessary to gradually expand the circulating hydroponics farm through policy and economic support.

밭에서 음식물류폐기물 활용 퇴비의 연용이 토양 및 작물에 미치는 영향 (The continuous application effect of the food waste composts on the cultivated upland soils and plants)

  • 음식물류폐기물의 재활용은 환경오염 예방과 자원 순환이라는 목적을 가지고 활발하게 시도되고 있다. 본 연구는 음식물류폐기물을 활용한 퇴비의 안전한 농업적 활용 방안을 모색하고, 음식물류폐기물의 농업적 활용기준 설정을 위한 기초자료를 얻고자 수행하였다. 이를 위해서 음식물류폐기물 활용 퇴비의 장기간 연용이 작물 생육과 토양환경에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 시험에 사용된 재료는 질소, 인산, 칼리의 함량이 각각 $24g\;kg^{-1}$, $8g\;kg^{-1}$, $10.4g\;kg^{-1}$인 돈분퇴비와 질소, 인산, 칼리의 함량이 각각 $20g\;kg^{-1}$, $20.1g\;kg^{-1}$, $6.5g\;kg^{-1}$인 음식물류폐기물 활용 퇴비로써 $2{\times}2{\times}2m$ 크기의 라이시미터에 화학비료의 질소 시용량과 동일하게 시용한 후 상추, 배추, 고추 및 감자를 연속하여 재배 실험하였다. 음식물류폐기물 활용 퇴비를 시용한 시험구의 작물 생육은 무비구 보다는 양호하였으나 화학 비료구와 비교했을 때 작물에 따라 반응이 달랐다. 음식물류폐기물을 활용한 퇴비의 연속적인 시용은 토양의 이화학성에 대해서는 유기물, 질소 및 인산의 함량을 증가시켰고, 토양 물리성에 대해서는 통기성을 증가시켰다.

Exploring sustainable resources utilization: Interlink between food waste generation and water resources conservation

  • The persistence of drought periods and water scarcity is a growing public concern, as climate change projections indicate a more critical scenario in the future. The sustainability of water resources for the increasing population, and to ensuring crop production will unarguably be a daunting task for the water resources managers, with a projected 9.8 billion people by 2050 as well as the need to increase food production by 70 to 100%. Consequently, there is a need for significant irrigation water use for more crop production in the face of stiff competition among water users. However, the available natural resources are already over-constrained, and the allocation of more resources for food production is not feasible. Currently, about two-thirds of global water withdrawer is used by the agricultural sector while 48% of water resources in Korea is used for agricultural production. Despite the apparent ecological deficit and unfavorable conditions of resources utilization, a staggering amount of food waste occurs in the country. Moreover, wastage of food translates to waste of all the resources involved in the food production including water resources. Food waste can also be considered a serious potential for economic and environmental problems. Hence, exploring an alternative approach to efficient resources utilization in a more sustainable way can ensure considerable resources conservation. We hypothesized that reducing food waste will decline the demand for food production and consequently reduce the pressure on water resources. We investigated the food wastage across the food supply chain using the top-down datasets based on the FAO mass balance model. Furthermore, the water footprint of the estimated food wastage was assessed using the representative of selected food crops. The study revealed that the average annual food wastage across the food supply chain is 9.05 million tonnes, signifying 0.51 kg/capita/day and 48% of domestic food production. Similarly, an average of 6.29 Gm3 per annum of water resources was lost to food wastage, which translates to 40% of the total allotted water resources for agriculture in the country. These considerable resources could have been conserved or efficiently used for other purposes. This study demonstrated that zero food waste generation would significantly reduce the impact on freshwater resources and ensure its conservation. There is a need for further investigation on the food waste study using the bottom-up approach, specifically at the consumer food waste, since the top-down approach is based on estimations and many assumptions were made.

간척지토양에서 하수슬러지 고화물 처리가 에너지작물의 생육에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Application of Solidified Sewage Sludge on the Growth of Bioenergy Crops in Reclaimed Land)

  • 본 연구는 수도권 매립예정 간척지 중 대규모의 유휴지에 농촌진흥청 국립식량과학원에서 특허 출원한 물억새의 일종인 거대억새1호, 간척지 자생 물억새 및 자생 갈대의 에너지 작물을 바이오에너지 생산 목적으로 쓰레기 매립 예정지에서 재배한 최초의 연구로서 매립예정 간척지의 적응성 및 활용가치가 높은 에너지 작물을 선정함과 동시에 간척지 토양의 하수슬러지 고화물 처리로 인한 에너지 작물의 생육 상태 모니터링 및 토양화학성의 변화를 조사하였다. 1. 각 시험구의 토양 pH범위는 6.7~8.3이었으며 하수슬러지 고화물을 처리한 시험구는 원지반토보다 낮은 pH를 나타내었다. 원지반토의 염농도는 하수슬러지 고화물을 처리한 시험구에 비해 높은 치환성 나트륨 함량을 보이며 높은 염농도를 나타내었다. 2. 하수슬러지 고화물 처리구의 토양 유기물 함량은 재식 초기에는 원지반토에 비해 4배와 7배 높았고, 생육후기에도 2.9~5.6%로 원지반토의 0.75%에 비해 많았다. 3. 각 시험구의 에너지 작물 생육조사결과 거대억새1호가 다른 에너지 작물에 비해 간척지 토양에 하수슬러지 고화물을 투입한 시험구에 대한 적응력이 우수한 것으로 판단되었다. 4. 간척지에 하수슬러지 고화물의 투입으로 인하여 염해 완충능이 향상되는 등 토양이화학성이 개선되었으며, 에너지 작물의 생육이 원지반토에 비해 양호했던 점을 보아 매립예정 간척지의 토양 복토제로서 활용 가능성을 확인하였다. 5. 각 시험구의 에너지 작물 수확 후 마른줄기 수량을 조사한 결과 거대억새1호는 타 에너지 작물에 비해 가장 높은 바이오매스량을 나타내며, 거대억새1호는 바이오에너지 생산을 위한 최적의 에너지 작물임을 확인하였다.
