This paper presents a closed-form model for evaluating the restraint effect of pressure induced bending on the opening of a circumferential through-wall crack, which is considered plastic deformation behavior. Three-dimensional finite element analyses with different crack lengths, restraint conditions, pipe geometries, magnitudes of internal pressure, and tensile properties were used to investigate the influence of each parameter on the pressure-induced bending restraint on the crack opening displacement. From these investigations, an analytical model based on elastic-perfectly plastic material was developed in terms of the crack length, symmetric restraint length, mean radius to thickness ratio, axial stress corresponding to the internal pressure, and normalized crack opening displacement evaluated from a linear-elastic crack opening condition. Finite element analyses results demonstrate that the proposed analytical model reliably estimated the restraint effect of pressure-induced bending on the plastic crack opening of a circumferential through-wall crack and properly reflected the dependence on each parameter within the range over which the analytical expression was derived.

Fracture mechanics analysis for cracked pipes is essential for applying the leak-before-break (LBB) concept to nuclear piping design. For LBB assessment, crack instability and leak rate should be predicted accurately for through-wall cracked pipes. In a nuclear piping system, elbows are connected with straight pipes by circumferential welding; this weld region is often considered a critical location. Hence, accurate crack assessment is necessary for cracks in the interface between elbows and straight pipes. In this study, the stress intensity factor (SIF) and elastic crack opening displacement (COD) were estimated through detailed 3D elastic finite element (FE) analyses. Based on the results, closed-form solutions of shape factors for calculating the SIFs and elastic CODs were proposed for circumferential through-wall cracks in the abovementioned interfaces under internal pressure. In addition, the effect of the elbow on shape factors was investigated by comparing the results with the existing solutions for a straight pipe.

The objective of this paper is to develop defect assessment technology for integrity evaluation of CANDU pressure tubes. In fracture mechanics analysis, three-dimensional and two-dimensional (line-spring model) finite element analyses were performed to obtain the stress intensity factor for axial and circumferential surface cracks. In leak before break (LBB) analysis, heat transfer analyses for through-wall cracks were performed by considering the cooling effect and the LBB application time was computed. It was shown that the analytical results obtained in this study provide less-conservative but accurate solution for defect assessment of CANDU pressure tubes.

Weldline movement of tailored blanks originates from two sources, primary and secondary. Primary movement occurs by geometrical reason, that is, just scratched lines on the no-weld blanks move during drawing to be fitted to geometrical change. Secondary movement is induced by the characteristics of tailored blanks itself. The primary movement was mainly dependent on the weldline location and not affected by the type of material. The secondary movement caused by laser welding and/or small strength difference in this study was not dominant compared with primary movement. The formability of tailored blanks always inferior to those of original blanks. This is due to the existence of hardened weld bead. The closer a weldline is to punch corner where drawing is most active, the worse its formability becomes. This is because the weldline prohibits the drawing process. It was confirmed by measuring diagonal length at the blank corner. The mode of fracture was changed form wall break to draw break when the weldling was close to the punch corner.
The purpose of this thesis is thermal performance simulation about various type that can apply in the high-rise residential building to estimate condensation performance of window that is consisted of frame and glazing in curtain wall. The result of this thesis are summarized as follows. First, condensation occurrence point when relative humidity is $30{\cdot}40{\cdot}50\%$ is shortest Low-e double glass. Difference by type of gas and spacer was a little by $2{\~}6$ cm, among it, the case that apply krypton in gas and the case that apply double seal in spacer were less condensation occurrence distribution. Second, when analyzed improved proposal of window and existing plan through simulation, improved proposal is superior from general side of the interior and exterior temperature, thermal break surrounding temperature and temperature of frame end, condensation occurrence point etc. Therefore, if it was used improved proposal with effect that improve in curtain wall of high-rise residential building, it may improve window condensation performance of curtain wall.

This paper provides engineering J-integral and crack opening displacement (COD) estimation equations for circumferential through-wall cracked pipes under internal pressure and under combined internal pressure and bending. Based on selected 3-D finite element calculations for the circumferential through-wall cracked pipes under internal pressure using the idealized power law materials, the elastic and plastic influence functions for fully plastic J-integral and COD solutions are found as a function of the normalized crack length and the mean radius-to-thickness ratio. These developed GE/EPRI-type solutions are then re-formulated based on the enhanced reference stress method. Such re-formulation not only provides simpler equations for J-integral and COD estimations, but also can be easily extended to combined internal pressure and bending. The proposed equations are compared with elastic-plastic finite element results using actual stress-strain data, which shows overall excellent agreement.

Background: A numerical simulation was carried out to investigate the difference between internal and external heat-flux distributions at the reactor vessel wall under in-vessel retention through external reactor vessel cooling (IVR-ERVC). Methods: Total loss of feed water, station blackout, and large break loss of coolant accidents were selected as the severe accident scenarios, and a transient analysis using the element-birth-and-death technique was conducted to reflect the vessel erosion (vessel wall thickness change) effect. Results: It was found that the maximum heat flux at the focusing region was decreased at least 10% when considering the two-dimensional heat conduction at the reactor vessel wall. Conclusion: The results show that a higher thermal margin for the IVR-ERVC strategy can be achieved in the focusing region. In addition, sensitivity studies revealed that the heat flux and reactor vessel thickness are dominantly affected by the molten corium pool formation according to the accident scenario.

According to recent research on leak-rate estimates to assess rupture probabilities of nuclear piping which contains a circumferential surface/through-wall cracks due to PWSCC, i.e., xLPR (Extremely Low Probability of Rupture) program, it has been revealed that the use of crack shape with an idealized circumferential through-wall crack during actual crack growth can lead to overestimate of the leak-rate. Thus, for accurate estimation of the leak-rate during crack growth, the more realistic crack shape that can simulate the crack shape transition from surface crack to through-wall crack should be used. In this context, in the present study, the elastic crack opening displacement of slanted circumferential through-wall crack in thick-walled cylinder was proposed based on 3-dimensional elastic finite element fracture mechanics analyses. To propose the elastic crack opening displacement of slanted circumferential through-wall crack in thick-walled cylinder, the geometric variables affecting crack opening displacement, i.e., thickness of cylinder, reference inner crack length and slant crack ratio were systematically varied. In terms of loading conditions, axial tension, global bending moment and internal pressure were considered. The present results can be applied to calculate the leak-rate considering more realistic crack shape transition from surface crack to idealized through-wall crack, and can be expected to enhance current leak-rate estimation scheme, for instance, in xLPR program etc.

In this study, a method for determining Ramberg-Osgood constants for leak-before-break evaluation was investigated. The Ramberg-Osgood constants were calculated for SA312, TP316, and SA-508 Gr.1a in an operating temperature of $316^{\circ}C$. Incremental plasticity, using stress-strain data obtained from experiment, and deformation plasticity, using the Ramberg-Osgood constants, were considered in a finite element analysis. Using incremental plasticity and deformation plasticity, J-integrals and crack opening displacement values were calculated and compared. By comparing the results of incremental plasticity and deformation plasticity, a suitable method for determining Ramberg-Osgood constants for leak-before-break evaluation was confirmed.
Experiments revealed that green water phenomena resemble dam-break, in which flow over deck edge forms a vertical wall of water and suddenly falls down into deck. In this paper the dam breaking problems were formulated using Glimm's algorithm, so-rolled, Random Choice method and, several validations were presented.
