원관 내의 디스크를 지나는 축대칭 스톡스 유동 (AXISYMMETRIC STOKES FLOW PAST A DISK IN A CIRCULAR TUBE)

  • A two-dimensional Stokes flow past a circular disk in a circular tube is analyzed. The circular disk is located coaxially with the circular tube and the Hagen-Poiseuille flow exists at upstream and downstream far from the circular disk. The Stokes approximation is used and the flow is investigated analytically by using the method of eigenfunction expansion and the method of least square. From the analysis, the stream function and the pressure of the flow field are obtained, and the streamlines and pressure distribution are shown. Also, the pressure and shear stress distributions on the circular disk and circular tube wall are calculated, and shown for some typical radii of the circular disk. The additional pressure drop induced by the disk and the drag force exerted on the disk are compared as functions of the radius of the circular disk, and it is shown that the shear force on the wall of the tube increases due to the disk.

  • In the present work, flow characteristics analysis has been performed for steam turbine bypass control valve (single-path type). The numerical analysis is performed by solving three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations. Shear stress transport (SST) model is used as turbulence closure. Symmetry condition is applied at the mid plane of the valve while adiabatic condition is used at the outer wall of the cage. Grid independency test is performed to find the optimal number of grid points. The pressure and temperature distributions on the outer wall of the cage are analyzed. Mass flow rate at maximum plug opening condition is compared with the designed mass flow rate.

  • 본 연구에서는 2차원 경사충돌분류에 대한 실험을 수행하였고, 이 결과를 수] 치해석에 의한 계산치와 비교하였다. 실험에서는 난류특성을 구명하기 위하여 열선 풍속계를 사용해 충돌각의 변화에 따른 평균속도, 각 난류응력성분, 압력등을 측정하 였다.수치해석을 위한 난류모델로는 표준 K-.epsilon.모델을 사용하였다.

  • In this study, the Stokes flow in the microchannel is analysed where the semicircular protuberances with constant spacing are attached on the upper and lower walls with staggered arrangement. For the low Reynolds number flow in microchannel, Stokes approximation is used and the periodicity and symmetry of the flow are considered to determine the stream function and pressure distribution in the flow field by using the method of least squared error. As results, the streamline patterns and pressure distributions in the flow field are shown for some specific values of the size and spacing of the protuberances, and shear stress distributions on the surface of semicircular protuberances are plotted. Especially, for an important physical property, the average pressure gradient along the microchannel is obtained and compared with that for the case of in-phase arrangement of the upper and lower protuberances. And, for the small clearance between the protuberances of upper and lower walls or between the protuberances and the opposite wall, the average pressure gradient is derived from the lubrication theory and compared with that of the present study.

Thrust augmentation through after-burning in scramjet nozzles

  • Scramjets are a class of hypersonic airbreathing engine that are associated with realizing the technology required for economical, reliable access-to-space and high-speed atmospheric transport. After-burning augments the thrust produced by the scramjet nozzle and creates a more robust nozzle design. This paper presents a numerical study of three parameters and the effect that they have on thrust augmentation. These parameters include the injection pressure, injection angle and streamwise injection position. It is shown that significant levels of thrust augmentation are produced based upon contributions from increased pressure, mass flow and energy in the nozzle. Further understanding of the phenomenon by which thrust augmentation is being produced is provided in the form of a force contribution breakdown, analysis of the nozzle flowfields and finally the analysis of the surface pressure and shear stress distributions acting upon the nozzle wall.

The numerical analysis is performed by solving three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations. The shear stress transport (SST) model and $k-{\varepsilon}$ model are used to each different case as turbulence closure. Symmetry condition is applied at the mid plane of the valve while adiabatic condition is used at the outer wall of the cage. Grid independency test is performed to find the optimal number of grid points. The pressure and temperature distributions on the outer wall of the cage are analyzed. The mass flow rate at maximum plug opening condition is compared with the designed mass flow rate. The numerical analysis of multiphase mixing flow(liquid and vapor) is also performed to inspect liquid-vapor volume fraction of bypass valve. The result of volume fraction is useful to estimate both the safety and confidence of valve design.

비선형 $k-{\epsilon}$ 난류모델에 의한 원추형 디퓨저 유동해석 (Numerical Simulation of a Conical Diffuser Using the Nonlinear $k-{\epsilon}$ Turbulence Model)

  • A diffuser, an important equipment to change kinetic energy into pressure energy, has been studied for a long time. Though experimental and theoretical researches have been done, the understanding of energy transfer and detailed mechanism of energy dissipation is unclear. As far as numerical prediction of diffuser flows are concerned, various numerical studies have also been done. On the contrary, many turbulence models have constraint to the applicability of diffuser-like complex flows, because of anisotropy of turbulence near the wall and of local nonequilibrium induced by an adverse pressure gradient. The existing $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulence models have some problems in the case of being applied to complex turbulent flows. The purpose of this paper is to test the applicability of the nonlinear $k-{\epsilon}$ model concerning diffuser-like flows with expansion and streamline curvature. The results show that the nonlinear $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulence model predicted well the coefficient of pressure, velocity profiles and turbulent kinetic energy distributions, however the shear stress prediction was failed.

전산유체역학을 이용한 스텐트 설계 (Stent Design Using Computational Fluid Dynamics)

  • Numerical investigation has been made on the stent design to minimize the neointimal hyperplasia. Computational fluid dynamics is applied to investigate the flow distributions in the immediate vicinity of the given idealized stent implanted in the blood vessel. Parametric study on the variations of the number of stouts, stent diameters, stent spacings and Reynolds numbers has been conducted using axi-symmetric Navier-Stokes equations. An initial difficulty in the study is to determine the optimal stent design to understand the flow physics of the flow disturbance induced by stent. The size of recirculation zone around stent is depend on the stent diameter, number of stent wire and Reynolds number but is insensitive to the stent wire spacing. It is also found that when the flow is in acceleration, the flow sees a more favorable pressure gradient, and the separation zones are smaller than the steady flow case. When the flow is in deceleration and the flow sees a more adverse pressure gradient so that the separation zones are larger.

일정 간격의 돌출부를 갖는 마이크로채널 내의 스톡스 유동 해석 (Stokes Flow Through a Microchannel with Projections of Constant Spacing)

  • 본 연구에서는 채널 벽면에 돌출물이 일정 간격으로 부착되어 있는 마이크로채널을 통과하는 2차원 스톡스 유동을 이론적으로 고찰한다. 상하 벽면에 부착된 돌출물들은 모두 반원 형상이고 서로 동일한 위상에 위치한다. 채널 내 유동의 주기성과 대칭성을 고려한 고유함수 전개법과 오차의 최소제곱법을 사용하여 유동장을 해석하여 유동함수 및 압력분포를 구하였다. 돌출물의 반경과 간격의 몇 가지 값들에 대하여 유동장 내의 유선 및 압력분포도를 보이고, 경계벽면에서의 전단응력 분포 등을 도시하였다. 또한, 돌출물의 반경과 돌출물 사이의 간격 변화에 따른 마이크로채널 내 평균 압력강하율의 변화를 계산하여 그림으로 나타내었다. 특히 상하 돌출물 사이의 틈새가 매우 작은 경우, 그 계산결과는 윤활이론의 결과와 아주 잘 일치함을 확인하였다.

2차원 채널 내의 원형실린더를 지나는 스톡스 유동에 대한 연구 (Study on Stokes Flow Past Circular Cylinder in Two-Dimensional Channel)

  • 2차원 채널 내의 원형실린더를 지나는 유동에 대한 이론적 연구를 수행하였다. 원형 실린더는 채널의 상하 중앙부에 위치하며, 원형실린더에서 멀리 떨어진 채널 내에는 포아제 유동이 존재한다. 스톡스 근사를 적용하고 유동의 고유함수 전개와 오차의 최소제곱법을 사용하여 유동장을 해석하였다. 해석의 결과로 유동함수와 압력분포 식을 구하였으며, 채널의 벽면과 원형실린더에 작용하는 압력 및 전단응력 분포를 계산하였다. 원형실린더로 인해 부가적으로 발생하는 압력 강하와 원형실린더가 받는 힘을 원형실린더의 반지름 길이의 함수로 계산하였으며, 대표적인 실린더 반지름 길이에 대하여 유선과 압력분포를 도시하였다.
