This study is an attempt to analyze concept of pain and to do it according to a series of concept development processes described by Walker and Avant. Based on the results of the study, the attributes, scope, precedences and consequences of pain were identified : 1. The attributes of pain were subjectivity, unpleasantness, expression, experience, response, and sensitivity. 2. The scope of pain were physical, psychological, and socio-cultural. 3. The following were precedences of pain : 1) Internal or external noxious stimuli 2) actual or potential injury or damage to body and/or mind 3) noxious stimulation or aversive sensation is perceived as pain 4. The following were consequences of pain : 1) physical, psychological, socio-cultural response 2) verbal and/or non-verbal communication 3) coping and self-preservation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to define and clarify the concept of volition for health behavior. Methods: For this study the process of Walker & Avant's concept analysis was used. Seventeen studies from electronic data basses met criteria for selection. Results: Volition can be defined by the following attributes: 1) planning, 2) maintenance of self-efficacy, and 3) self regulation. The antecedents of volition consisted of: 1) risk awareness, 2) outcome expectation, 3) perceived self-efficacy, and 4) social support. The consequences occurring as a result of volition were: 1) prevention of disability and complications, 2) improvement of functional ability, and 3) enhencement of quailty of life. Conclusion: Definition and attributes of volition identified by this results can be applied to develop measurements and intervention programs for chronic patients health behavior.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify attributes of the concept of spiritual care. Method: Walker & Avant's concept analysis framework was employed to review the clinical guidelines, nursing text books, and nursing research articles which were related to spiritual care and published from 1985 to 2005. Result: The attributes of the concept of spiritual care were a three stage process such as spiritual assessment, spiritual intervention, and spiritual evaluation. Spiritual care included three dimensions of relationships such as transpersonal, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. The quality of spiritual care was dependent upon characteristics of care-givers such as perception and knowledge of spiritual care, and the clinical environment. The antecedents of spiritual care was spiritual needs due to the prompt events. The consequence of spiritual care was spiritual well-being. Conclusion: This concept analysis of spiritual care contributed to promote performance of spiritual care in clinical fields by removing conceptual ambiguity and confirming the true meaning of spiritual care.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the concept, palliation, in order to enhance understanding of palliative care and ultimately lead to the provision of timely quality palliative care. Method: This study used Walker and Avant s methods for concept analysis. Result: The defining attributes of palliation identified in this study were 1) being limited, 2) responsiveness, 3) leading to positive effects, 4) relativity, and 5) being unsettled. The antecedents of palliation were 1) a problematic condition, 2) appropriate management for the problematic condition, and 3) interaction between the problematic condition and the appropriate management. The consequences of palliation included 1) improvement of a problematic condition and 2) dependency on a management of the problematic condition. Conclusion: Although further studies are required to refine the diverse attributes of the concept of palliation, according to this concept analysis of palliation, palliative care should be introduced at the early stage of disease and constantly provided for the improvement of its negative symptoms.

Purpose: This study aimed to perform a concept analysis of quality nursing care. Methods: Walker and Avant's concept analysis method was used to carry out this study. Results: The defining attributes identified were as follows: caring, the nurse-patient relationship, and patient needs. Antecedents included patient characteristics, individual factors (age, education, knowledge, competence, and experience), job position, and environmental factors. The consequences of quality nursing care have significant influence on both patients and nurses. Conclusion: The findings can aid researchers in obtaining a better understanding of quality nursing care, and stakeholders can consider the factors related to quality nursing care and its consequences to improve the nursing process.
This paper follows the Walker of Avant approach to concept analysis of the concept of power. For the purposes of the paper, power was defined as the actural or potential ability or capacity to achieve objectives through an interpersonal process in which the goals and means to achieve the goals are mutually established and worked toward. The distinction between the view of power as 'power to' versus 'power over' are addressed in the literature review. King's conceptual framework was used as a guide. The defining attributes of power are: 1. The actual or potential ablity or capacity to achieve objectives or attain goals. 2. An Interpersonal process, 3. Mutual establishment of goals and the means to achieve the goals and 4. Mutually working toward the goals. The antecedents for power were idntified in the literature review: 1. the presence of two or more people 2. acquisition of power skill 3. possession of the power sources 4. an orientation of power as good and 5. self-confidence. The concequences of power are the achievement of objectives or goal attainment. Finally Assumptions and testable hypothesis are proposed.

Purpose: The concept of sensibility as sensitive perception is a part of the most important elements in human relations and nursing. However, sensibility has not been a focus of nursing research and it seems important to clarify the meaning of sensibility. Therefore, in this study the meaning of sensibility as a cognitive faculty of humans was explored. The results will contribute to the development of nursing science and art. Method: The process described by Walker and Avant to analyze concepts was used to define the concept of sensibility. Results: Attributes of sensibility were defined as 'emotional ability to feel', 'delicate, sensitive awareness of emotion' 'appreciative, tender hearted about oneself and others', 'awareness of intellectual, moral values', 'liability to be vulnerable', 'direct interrelation with individual'. Conclusion: The sensibility mentioned above included the attribute of caring within nurses intrinsic disposition which is achieved through the process of interrelational communication. Therefore continuous study and development of this concept should not only provide resources for nursing but also have a positive effect in therapeutic personal relationships.
Purpose: This study aims to determine the conceptual properties of work engagement in nursing professional groups, and to provide basic data for nursing personnel management. Methods: To identify a nurse's work engagement, data were analyzed according to Walker & Avant's concept analysis method. Results: The analysis identified four work engagement attributes in nursing professional groups, namely: vigour, dedication, absorption, and zest. Conclusion: To bolster nurses' engagement with their duties, it is necessary to provide opportunities and implement interventions such as incentive system in performance evaluation based on work engagement in nursing, appropriate education program, and positive work environment.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the concept of physical activity. The method was based on the steps of concept analysis by Walker and Avant(1988). The result of this study were as follows; Upon the concept analysis, physical activity is defined as a series of bodily movements which is performed voluntarily by individual. The defining attributes of physical activity were a series of bodily movements, energy expenditure, goal-directedness, and self-control of the body. The antecedents of physical activity were neuromusculoskeletal function, cardiopulmonary function and cognitive function. And the consequences of physical activity were improvement of physical function, induction of fatigue, and need(physiopsychosocial) satisfaction. Further studies are needed to develop the concept of physical activity using the Hybrid model. In addition, considering personal characteristics it is important to study the facilitating factors of physical activity.
