  • Fern gametophytes are a good model system to study plant morphogenesis, because of their simple organization and various photocontrolled responses. We studied fern photomorphogenesis including chloroplast photoorientation using Adiantum gametophytes to analyze signal transduction pathways of plant photomorphogenesis. Chloroplast photoorientation will be shown in detail and molecular structure of fern phytochromes and blue light absorbing pigments will also be discussed.

  • In this article a novel constant amplitude precoding for impulse UWB system is proposed. According to IEEE 802.15.4a, impulse UWB can be used in indoor localization and sensor data transmission. Most USN(ubiquitous sensor networks) needs multiple access. However impulse UWB system has a limited capability to detect superpositioned signal induced by multiple access. To overcome this problem we have adopted the concept of CAMC(Constant Amplitude Multi-Code) deviced by Wada and Kim. The proposed system consists of systematic constant amplitude precoding and LDPC decoding. And this system shows a good BER performance in computer simulation.

First Record of the Genus Cis Latreille (Coleoptera: Tenebrionoidea: Ciidae) from Korea, with Six Unrecorded Species with Host Fungi (한국산 미기록속 애기버섯벌레속(Cis Latreille)(딱정벌레목: 거저리상과: 애기버섯벌레과)에 속한 6 미기록종과 숙주버섯)

  • The Genus Cis Latreille known as fungivorous ciids is taxonomically reviewed for the first time from Korea. Six unrecorded species - Cis boleti (Scopoli, 1763); Cis seriatopilosus Motschulsky, 1861; Cis mikagensis Nobuchi & Wada, 1955; Cis jezoensis Nobuchi, 1960; Cis sasajii Kawanabe, 2001; Cis hieroglyphicus Reitter, 1877- are present. All of Cis members are associated with the fruiting body of higher fungi. The author provides the taxonomical information and the ecological information on the host fungi of the Korean Cis species.

  • The etymology of the Chinese words for “Asian Dust" in Korea. China, and Japan has been investigated using historical records and the research results of Quan (1994) and Wada (1917) The results show that the words for Asian Dust in Korea can be found in $\boxDr$Samguksagi$\boxUl$, $\boxDr$Korysa$\boxUl$ and $\boxDr$Chosunwangjosillok$\boxUl$, which are histrorical books of Korea. In 174 AD, during the reign of King Adalla of the Silla Dynasty, “Dust Fall” was employed to describe a descending substance in the atmosphere other than water droplets (Wada, 1917; Chun et al., 2001). The terms “Dust Fall”, “Dust rain” and “Mud” were commonly used until the end of the 19th century. It was not until Japanese colonial rule (1910~1945) that “Yellow Sand” was used in Korea. The documentation on Asian Dust started far earlier in China. “Dust Fall” records were compiled as early as 1150 BC. At that time, Asian Dust was written as “Dust Fall” or “Mud”. “Yellow Sand” was recorded in 550 AD in China, however, it seems that its use was not as common as “Dust Fall”. In Japan, the first report related to Asian Bust was made in 807 AD : it used the phase “Yellow Rain”. “Mud” was recorded in 1596 and “Dust Fall” was employed in 1633 (Wada, 1917). “Yellow Sand” was used in 1939 as the title of a Japanese research paper.aper.

  • The intermediate M420 formed in a solution of firefly luciferin in deoxygenated dimethyl-sulfoxide added potassium f-butoxide was observed to emit yellow-green and red light by filter-photometry. By H-NMR, M420 was found to be deprotonated at the site where luciferin reacts with oxygen.

  • The paper considers the algorithms of balanced realization from SISO transfer functions. Some methods which have been proposed to find a balanced realization from the companion form realization, are investigated. Then a new method is proposed which finds a balanced realization from the discrete Schwarz form realization. The process of computing the elements of Schwarz matrix from the transfer function is equivalent to the Schur-Cohn stability test procedure. Comparison of the proposed method with the previous works is also discussed.
