  • In this letter, a simple method for reducing the size of a dual-band planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) is described. This method is based on a coupling capacitor connected in parallel to the PIFA feed conductor. The proposed antenna occupies a small ground clearance of $10mm{\times}5mm$ and is able to provide -10-dB impedance bandwidths of 120 MHz and 760 MHz for 2.45-GHz and 5.5-GHz wireless local area network applications, respectively. The measured antenna efficiencies are 71.8% and 73.6%, averaged over the 2.45-GHz and 5.5-GHz frequency bands, respectively.

  • Fingerprinting is a widely used positioning technology for received signal strength (RSS) based wireless local area network (WLAN) positioning system. Though spatial RSS variation is the key factor of the positioning technology, temporal RSS variation needs to be considered for more accuracy. To deal with the spatial and temporal RSS characteristics within a unified framework, this paper proposes an extended signal propagation mode (ESPM) and a fingerprint generation method. The proposed spatiotemporal fingerprint generation method consists of two algorithms running in parallel; Kalman filtering at several measurement-sampling locations and Kriging to generate location fingerprints at dense reference locations. The two different algorithms are connected by the extended signal propagation model which describes the spatial and temporal measurement characteristics in one frame. An experiment demonstrates that the proposed method provides an improved positioning accuracy.

  • This paper is presented on the antenna design for notepc platform. We present the antenna with combination of electric-magnetic radiator for dual-band Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) service and a High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) service. Due to the limited antenna space in notepc platform, the antennas for various wireless communication service should be located at a very small area. In this paper, the magnetic-type radiator works for high frequency band (1.7 - 2.1 GHz) application and the electric-type radiator works for low frequency band (820 - 960 MHz) application. This combination produces wide-band characteristics in the high frequency band. Simulation and experimental results of input impedance and gain characteristics of the proposed antenna are presented. There are good agreements between the simulated and measured S11 and gain values.

  • In this paper, a synthesis technique for nonuniform filtering structures to be employed in active integrated antenna layouts is presented. The idea is to suppress the higher harmonic contribution due to the presence of nonlinear components through a nonuniform transmission line properly designed via Orlov's synthesis formula. The theory presented is applied here to synthesize an amplifier-based active antenna layout for wireless local area network (WLAN) purposes working at 2.4 GHz. The numerical results presented show the capabilities of the proposed approach.

  • This paper proposes an efficient location technique to find an indoor location under the IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks. The proposed method is based on the range measurements obtained from a simple radio frequency propagation model. Thus, unlike the radio frequency fingerprint correlation method, it does not suffer from the computational burden during the real-time location service period and can quickly reply the location requests of many users at the same time. To increase the location accuracy in spite of the frequent non-line-of-sight error occurrences, the proposed method calibrates the distortion of the non-line-of-sight error by a simple measurement surveying procedure that does not require the surveyor's manual interaction. Experimental results show the capability of the proposed method.

  • Effect to altered geometry of a suggested defected ground structure(DGS) unit cell was investigated . And equivalent circuit model was extracted from the DGS unit cell A microstrip band Pass filter with DGS has been designed in this Paper. The BPF with DGS was fabricated and obtained experimental results with network analyzer HP8510C. Experimental results show the center frequency of 2.45GHz, the insertion loss of 0.85dB, and the 3-dB bandwidth of 470MHz (19.5%). The center frequency of BPF is 2.4GHz which is available for wireless LAN.

  • Understanding and optimizing the energy consumption of wireless devices is critical to maximize the network lifetime and to provide guidelines for the design of new protocols and interfaces. In this work, we first provide an accurate analysis of the energy performance of an IEEE 802.11 WLAN, and then we derive the configuration to optimize it. We further analyze the impact of the energy configuration of the stations on the throughput performance, and we discuss under which circumstances throughput and energy efficiency can be both jointly maximized and where they constitute different challenges. Our findings are that, although an energy-optimized configuration typically yields gains in terms of throughput as compared against the default configuration, it comes with a reduction in performance as compared against the maximum-bandwidth configuration, a reduction that depends on the energy parameters of the wireless interface.

  • In this paper, we design and verify the hardware circuit that performs PLCP(Physical Layer Convergence Protocol) protocol functions of physical layer in IEEE 802.11 frequency hopping WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network). Altera MAX+PLUS I $I^{〔1〕}$ is used as a design tool. The designed circuit consists of control register module to interface with upper layer, FIFO module to transmit/receive data with upper layer, TX function module, and RX function module. It is verified that the developed circuit conforms well to the IEEE 802.11 standard specification and can support both 1Mbps and 2 Mbps transmission rate by simulation. The developed circuits can be utilized for the implementation of protocol processor in wireless LAN areas.
