  • In this paper, the design of WDM network using the traffic estimation modeling is implemented. Because of the lack of data of real traffic volumes, the information of statistic data is used. using the modeling results, the WDM channels is assigned for each node, and the network is simulated using OPNET simulation tools. As a result, the realistic WDM network design for Korea topology is proposed.

  • A metro ring network using WDM technology requires many issues to be considered even though its transmission distance is shorter and its transmission capacity is lower than a long-haul WDM system. Unlike a long-haul WDM system, which is basically point-to-point configuration, a metro ring network usually equips with capabilty of wavelength reconfiguration. Therefore network performance considering crosstalk within OADM and the network behavior when the ring network is closed should be analyzed before implemented. We discussed some of results analyzed for the issues. Furthermore we proposed a novel method to design a dispersion map for a ring network, and demonstrated the methodology with an exemplary 8-node ring network of 399km circumference.

  • In this paper, we deal with a mesh network design problem arising from the deployment of WDM for the optical internet. The mesh network consists of mesh topology for satisfying traffic demand while minimizing the cost of WDM, OXC, and fiber cables. The problem seeks to find an optimal routing of traffic demands in the network such that the total cost is minimized. We formulate the problem as a mixed-integer programming model and devise a tabu search heuristic procedure. Also we develop an optical internet design system that implements the proposed tabu search heuristic procedure. We demonstrate the computational efficacy of the proposed algorithm, compared with CPLEX 8.0.

  • Virtual wavelength path (VWP) is the optical path when a wavelength conversion is possible in a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network that is transmission infrastructure for the next generation high speed backbone networks. To achieve efficient design for VWP networks, we must consider VWP routing, wavelength assignment, and wavelength conversion while satisfying many technical constraints of the WDM networks. In this study we propose an integrated model for efficient VWP design in WDM networks. We also develope a 3-phase algorithm, each of which deals with routing, wavelength assignment and route and wavelength reassignment, respectively. In our computational experiments, phase 1 algorithm can solve the problem to the optimality for medium size test networks. Phase 2 algorithm is an efficient heuristic based on a reduced layered network and can give us an effective wavelength assignment. Finally, phase 3 algorithm reconfigure VWP routing and its wavelength assignment to concentrate wavelength conversion nodes in the suggested VWP network.

  • In order to support various broadband multimedia servies in the future, we designed a well balanced WDM backbone network. In Korean network traffic environment, six regional centers are selected, link capacities between the regional centers are estimated from the PDI traffic model, and the overall network configuration is designed for the all-optical backbone network. Also, we designed a basic configuration to be able to protect minimum communication capability against link failure. A simulation study is carried out to verify the desired performance of the designed WDM backbone network. Simulation results show that performance of the backbone network is well balanced to support various communication services in Korea in the mid 2000s

  • This paper proposed a network to implement all optical bidirectional BLSR/4 WDM/SHR allowing restoration in the event of a failure. The proposed network can provide a high degree of transparency using all-optical components with no electric implementation and effective failure restoration due to BLSR/4 WDM/SHR architecture. This paper also presented a genetic simulation model for the survivability analysis of the proposed BLSR/4 WDM/SHR under failure scenarios, the restoration performance of the proposed network is analyzed in terms of performance parameters such as propagation time, processing time, optical switch time.

  • WDM is a very promisinig technique for the realization of future All-Optical networks. WDM gives an advantage of high rate transmission without delay for Electronic/optical conversion. But the available number of wavelengths is limited by technical restriction. so the efficient optical path routing and wavelength assignment is needed. this paper is concerned with the efficient design of WDM optical transport networks. RWA assumes that the connection demands between node pairs are given. the objective of RWA is to minimize the number of wavelengths. these design consider the static routing and wavelength assignment in the network of arbitrary topology. To solve these problems, this paper proposes some heuristic algorithms.

  • The recent explosion in the Internet applications, Internet. host number and the traffic in the IP backbone network is posing new challenges for transport network. This requires a high-speed IP backbone network that has a substantially higher bandwidth than the one offered by current networks, which prompts the development of all-optical network. To obtain optical network utilization gains, we need a software which establishs logical topology to make possible the efficient use or physical topology, and control the optical network in combination with the IP layer routing protocols. Finally, the logical topology is required higher efficient than physical topology. For this an efficient algorithm for the routing and wavelength assignment(RWA) in the WDM all-optical network is necessary. In this paper, two kinds of heuristic algorithms to establish logical topology for WDM networks and arc applied to the design of logical topology of domestic backbone network. These algorithms are found to work quite well and they arc compared with each other in terms of blocking rate, etc.

  • The implementation of passive optical network in the access network will result in design of the network that have characteristics of broadband, long distance transmission, transparency. Particularly, optical technologies of WDM and WGR have made a new access network of WDM-PON. This paper proposes the algorithm that determines structural elements of a survivable optical access network, and simulates the cost of various scheme of proposed network architectures. Our results show that multistage star is the most cost effective scheme than the other architectures and show that network architecture designed by proposed algorithm provides survivability with single link and 1st node failure.
