  • Because of rapid damping of light and electromagnetic wave, acoustic wave has been widely used for underwater communication. However, the propagation of the acoustic wave is highly dependent on the environment such as water properties(temperature, pressure, salinity), bottom and surface conditions, etc.. This paper deals with the surface reflection effect on the wave propagation in the underwater anechoic basin in KRISO. Both theortical and experimental approaches are performed and the results are compared.

  • Vehicular Ad-hoc Network the core technology of ITS supports safety service or information service to driver and passenger on the roads utilizing V2V and V2I communication. WAVE, the standard of the vehicular ad hoc networks, adopts IEEE 802.11p as MAC protocol and includes the channel coordination algorithm to utilize multiple channels. However, this standard shows the problem related with QoS guarantee of urgent data for driver's safety and the limitation of the performance improvement. In this paper, we introduce WAVE-based Multi-channel MAC protocols that have proposed to resolve above problems and describe their features.

  • This study demonstrates the performance of flexible surface wave resonators in spaces on a ship to overcome environmental limits like non-metallic walls where conventional surface wave resonators cannot installable. Although test results in plane structures show that the performance of conventional surface wave resonators are better than the flexible ones, the results are reversed in curved structures. Flexible surface wave resonators can be installed on metal-pipes that connects all spaces in a ship, and this will allow to build ultimate communication network all over the ship including the rooms like cabins or bridges that are enclosed in non-metallic walls.

  • Received signal strength indicator (RSSI) represents the strength of the received signal at the front end of analog-to-digital convertor (ADC) input. RSSI value can be used for deciding the status of channel at the receiver. In this paper, the usage of RSSI in handover is studied using the practical measurement data. We first measure RSSI in 5.9GHz frequency band which is commonly used in wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) system. i.e., vehicular communications. Then, to implement a fast handover, the usability of RSSI data is analyzed based on the measured data. We also apply handover in practical highway environments.

  • A typical standard of vehicular ad hoc networks, WAVE which consists of IEEE 1609.x Family standards and IEEE 802.11p standard, includes the multi-channel coordination and channel synchronization function to provide safety services or public services during a car is driven. Generally, the performance of data communication and networking technologies is evaluated by using simulation tools, such as ns-2, OPNET, OPNET++, etc. However, these tools doesn't provide the operations of WAVE protocol. Therefore, in this paper, we implement and verify WAVE simulation program based on ns-2.

  • In this paper, we analyze and develop standard protocols for WAVE Networking Services described by IEEE 1609.3 which is one of standards for Intelligent Transportation Systems. In particular, we develop 'WAVE Management Entity(WME)' and 'WAVE Short Message Protocol(WSMP)'. For verification of development, we also develop Traffic Management System and RSU Manager, then we present results of verification by Traffic Management System in the car accident scenario.

  • Poroelasticity theory has been widely used for detecting cancellous bone deterioration because of the safe use for humans. The tortuosity itself is an important indicator for ultrasound detection for bone diseases. The transport properties of cancellous bone are also important in bone mechanotransduction. In this paper, two important factors, the wave velocity and attenuation are examined for permeability (or tortuosity). The theoretical calculation for the relationship between the wave velocity (and attenuation) and permeability (or tortuosity) for cancellous bone is shown in this study. It is found that the wave along the solid phase (trabecular struts) is influenced not by tortuosity, but the wave along the fluid wave (bone fluid phase) is affected by tortuosity significantly. However, the attenuation is different that the attenuation of a fast wave has less influence than that of a slow wave because the slow wave is observed by the relative motion between the solid and fluid phases.
