  • The WAP gateway. for wireless internet applications services, is a software that is placed between the user terminals(PDA, mobile phones) and the WAP/Web server. H is a middleware system that converts the protocol of a packet network to the protocol on the WAP network, and supports the encoding of WML documents. In this paper, we designed and implemented the WAP gateway based on the WAP specification version 1.2 announced by the WAP forum. It provides cross-platform compatibility by being implemented by the Java language. Compared with a Kannel system using a Nokia tool kit version 1.2, it provides a more excellent performance and a stability.

  • As the population of the Internet inneases, so does that of mobile Internet. Currently, the use area of mobile Internet is rather limited due to the low speed of transmission and lack of applications. However, it is evident that the speed will be improved and more applications will be developed. In this paper, we propose: i) to use WAP in SCM, ii) to interconnect WAP and XML/EDI system, iii) to interconnect WAP, XML/EDI, Legacy system in SCM. We implemented a prototype which can show the interconnection among WAP, XML/EDI, and Legacy system. We hope the concept could be used in real applications in the near future.

  • The purpose of this study is to introduce the implementation of WML and WMLScript by using the Openwave WAP simulator. For this purpose, previous literature review was done on the studies about the structures of WAP systems, types of WAP Browsers, and development methods of WAP contents. Afterwards, I attempt to implement WML and WMLScript by using an openwave Phone simulator, openwave WAP simulator, openwave HTTP simulator and Nokia Mobile Internet Toolkit. Few studies have been completed on implementation of WMLScript and it's complex process. Therefore, this study explores the necessary implementation steps and develops an easier way to create and experiment mobile applications using WMLScript.

  • Mobile e-business is in wide use with the rapid growth of wireless internet users. To meet the growing requests for mobile e-business the productivity of mobile applications has been demanded. The WAPSiteGen, introduced in this paper, automatically generates a 3-tier WAP application that needs a new application database or that already has an application database to increase the productivity. The WAPSiteGen generates the EJB components that handle business logic and the JSP Web components that process user-made queries and the WAP Push feature. For a presentation layer, it also generates the HTML forms for an application manager and the WML decks for end users, which consists of many cards. The WAPSiteGen enhances extendibility, reusability and portability of generated 3-tier applications by comprising such component technologies as EJB and JSP. Furthermore, it supports the WAP Push services for generated applications that provide necessary information to wherever and at whenever a user wants. Since the applications generated by the WAPSiteGen provide the information on an interested entity as well as the information on all the directly or indirectly related entities to the interested one, it shows faster information accessibility. In this paper, we explain the functionality and implementation of the WAPSiteGen and then show its merits by comparing the WAPSiteGen to commercial WAP application generators.

  • The need for end-to-end security has been increased with the widespread use of mobile devices in wireless internet access applications such as mobile commerce. The WAP1.x has an end-to-end security problem that the message transmitted between the mobile device and the Web server is decrypted inside the gateway within a short time. To overcome this problem, several protocols including WAP2.0 has been proposed. These protocols require that the heavy modules such as TLS or data compression modules should be installed on the mobile device with limited resources. This paper proposes a new WTLSW(WTLS-TLS at Web server) protocol and a new WAP2.0 proxy model in order to ensure end-to-end security between the mobile device and the Web server and to be appropriate for mobile devices with limited resources.

  • Floor number determination has attracted considerable attention because many applications require accurate floor number information for providing better localization services in multistory buildings. This paper describes a Wi-Fi-based, low-complexity floor number determination method for multistory buildings. In our scheme, with the exception of floor ID and received signal strength of each WAP, detailed information on the wireless access point (WAP) coordinates is not needed. The multi-wall-floor model is used for the simulation and analysis. The simulation results show that the floor determination accuracy is nearly 100 given an adequate deployment density of WAPs on each floor. The results also show that the proposed method provides a good estimate of floor number even when only a few WAPs are implemented on each floor. Specifically, the proposed method can work under extreme conditions, i.e., where there are no WAPs on a floor.

  • As the subscription rate to both Internet services and wireless communications services increases rapidly, traffic in the future wireless communications will be dominated by Internet applications. Current research for wireless technology is focused to the multimedia data transmission mainly for the personal computer or notebook whose display which has large display and abundant memory. But in the near future, Internet access request from the handphone or PDA device which is already spreaded in the world will be large. Special handset terminals which has small display monitor, low capacity memory and poor processing power has to be managed differently from torrent wireless communications protocols. So, WAP Forum is organized with wireless handset manufacturers in the world and the standardization process for wireless application is being actively developed. In this paper, basic model and architecture of WAP is introduced and adaptation requirements for change from HTML documents to WML formats are proposed. Also, compression ratio gained in the transform from the existing web documents to WML is shown.

  • In this paper, we discuss about wireless Internet security. The past few years have seen unprecedented growth in the number of wireless user, applications, and network access technologies. Wireless Internet is similar to wired internet, but it has some constrained wireless environment. So many internet technologies for wireless are developing now. There are WAP(Wireless Application Protocol) and WPKI. WAP(now version 2.0) is a protocol specification for wireless communication networks. it provides an application framework and network protocols for wireless devices such as mobile telephones, PDAs and internet technologies. In this paper some analysis of security(e.g. digital signature or encryption) for wireless internet are performed.
