A filamentous fungus, strain FB01 showing high $\beta$-glucosidase activity was isolated from a compost. This fungus was cocultured with Trichoderma viride to enhance the productivity of $\beta$-glucosidase by changing inoculation time of the fungus. The microbial consortium showed higher cellulolytic enzyme production than T. viride alone. The maximal enzyme production was obtained when the microbial consortium was cultured at 30$\^{C}$ and pH 6.0 for 10 days with the activities of CMCase, $\beta$-glucosidase, and avicelase of 2.0, 0.8, and 0.2 U/mL, respectively. These enzyme activities were 2, 4, and 2 times as high as those of CMCase, p-glucosidase, avicelase from T. viride, respectively, indicating that a synergistic interaction appeared between T. viride and strain FBOI . The serial subcultures with pH control increased $\beta$-glucosidase production about 3.2 times. Enzyme production using ricestraw as a carbon source showed that the activities of CMCase, $\beta$-glucosidase, and avicelase were 3.69, 0.76, 0.17 U/mL, respectively, and $\beta$-glucosidase activity was 1.5 times higher than that of T viride.
Statement of problem. Proliferation of Candida albicans is primarily within the plaque on the fitting surface of the denture rather than on the inflamed mucosa. Consequently, the treatment of the denture is equally important as treatment of the tissue. Cleansing and disinfection should be efficiently carried-out as the organisms can penetrate into the voids of the acrylic resin and grow in them, from which they can continue to infect and reinfect bearing tissues. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the applicability of photocatalytic reaction to eliminate Candida albicans from acrylic resin denture base, and to investigate the anti-fungal effect with various UVA illumination time. Materials and Methods. The specimens were cured by the conventional method following the manufacturer's instruction using thermal polymerized denture base resin (Vertex RS: Dentimex, Netherlands). $TiO_2$ photocatalyst sol(LT), which is able to be coated at normal temperature, was made from the Ti-alkoxide progenitor. The XRD patterns, TEM images and nitrogen absorption ability of the $TiO_2$ photocatalyst sol(LT) were compared with the commercial $TiO_2$ photocatalyst P-25. The experimental specimens were coated with the mixture of the $TiO_2$ photocatalyst sol(LT) and binder material (silane) using dip-coater, and uncoated resin plates were used as the control group. Crystallinity of $TiO_2$ of the specimen was tested by the XRD. Size, shape and chemical compositions were also analyzed using the FE-SEM/ EDS. The angle and methylene blue degradation efsciency were measured for evaluating the photocatalytic activity of the $TiO_2$ film. Finally, the antifungal activity of the specimen was tested. Candida albicans KCTC 7629(1 ml, initial concentration $10^5$ cells/ ml) were applied to the experiment and control group specimens and subsequently two UVA light source with 10W, 353 nm peak emission were illuminated to the specimens from 15cm above. The extracted $2{\mu}l$ of sample was plated on nutrient agar plate ($Bacto^{TM}$ Brain Heart Infusion; BD, USA) with 10 minute intervals for 120 minute, respectively. It was incubated for 24 hours at $37^{\circ}C$ and the colony forming units (CFUs) were then counted. Results. Compared the characteristics of LT photocatalyst with commercial P-25 photocatalyst, LT were shown higher activity than P-25. The LT coated experimental specimen surface had anatase crystal form, less than 20 nm of particle size and wide specific surface area. To evaluate the photocatalytic activity of specimens, methylene blue degradation reaction were used and about 5% of degradation rate were measured after 2 hours. The average contact angle was less than $20^{\circ}$ indicating that the LT photocatalyst had hydrophilicity. In the antifungal activity test for Candida albicans, 0% survival rate were measured within 30 minute after irradiation of UVA light. Conclusion. From the results reported above, it is concluded that the UVA-LT photocatalytic reaction have an antifungal effect on the denture surface Candida albicans, and so that could be applicable to the clinical use as a cleaning method.
Geographical Information System(GIS) was established to display the calculation results which show the concentration change with time and regions in case of an accidental release of radionuclides from Kori Nuclear Power Plants. GIS included the commercial program, ArcView(ESRI), and a basic digital map of 1:5000 scale lot 20km by 20km around Kori area. The object for the presentation was $^{131}I$ concentration in rice which is one of staple foodstuffs. Provided by deposited $^{131}I$ concentrations, ECOREA-II code computed the $^{131}I$ concentration of the soil and the plant in the area divided by In unit cells in total, in which the concentrations also varied with time. The results were introduced into the attributed data of previously designed polygon cells in ArcView. In order to display the concentration change with time by monotonic color, the RGB value for ArcView color lamp was controlled. This display definitely helped the concentration change around Kori area be acceptable to public.

To overcome the limitations of the solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) due to the high temperature operation, there has been increasing interest in proton conducting fuel cells (PCFCs) for reduction of the operating temperature to the intermediate temperature range. In present work, the perovskite $BaCe_{0.85-x}Zr_xY_{0.15}O_{3-\delta}$ (BCZY, x = 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7) were synthesized via solid state reaction (SSR) and adopted as an electrolyte materials for PCFCs. Powder characteristics were examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) surface area analysis. Single phase BCZY were obtained in all compositions, and chemical stability was improved with increasing Zr content. Anode-supported cell with $Ni-BaCe_{0.55}Z_{0.3}Y_{0.15}O_{3-\delta}$ (BCZY3) anode, BCZY3 electrolyte and BCZY3-$Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-\delta}$ (BSCF) composite cathode was fabricated and electrochemically characterized. Open-circuit voltage (OCV) was 1.05 V, and peak power density of 370 ($mW/cm^2$) was achieved at $650^{\circ}C$.
Yoghurt base was prepared from skim milk added with 0.25∼2.0%(w/v) of chlorella extract powder and fermented with lactic acid bacteria(Streptococcus thermophilus : Lactobacillus casei = 1:1) at 37$^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. Quality characteristics of the yoghurts were evaluated in terms of acid production, number of viable cell, color, texture property, and sensory property during lactic acid fermentation. The addition of 0.25% chlorella extract powder stimulated the growth of lactic acid bacteria which showed the highest number of viable cell counts(l.46${\times}$10$\^$8/ CFU/mL) after 12 hours incubation, and also enhanced the acid production which was pH 4.33 after 12 hours incubation. The L values(brightness) of the yoghurts containing chlorella extract powder were lower than control group, whereas the b values(yellowness) were higher. The hardness and gumminess of the yoghurt added with 0.25% chlorella extract powder were higher than others. Sensory scores of the yoghurt added with 0.25% chlorella extract powder were significantly higher than other groups in color, chlorella odor, sweet taste, chlorella taste, mouth feel, aftertaste and overall acceptability.
Objective: This experiment evaluated the effect of dietary supplementation levels of rapeseed meal (RSM) in gestation diets on reproductive performance, blood profiles, milk composition of sows, and growth of their progeny. Methods: A total of 55 mixed-parity sows ($Yorkshire{\times}Landrace$; average parity = 3.82) with an initial body weight (BW) of 193.0 kg were used in this experiment. Sows were allotted to one of 5 treatments at breeding based on BW and backfat thickness in a completely randomized design. Treatments consisted of dietary RSM supplementation levels (0%, 3%, 6%, 9%, and 12%) in gestation diets. During lactation all sows were fed a common lactation diet with no RSM supplementation. Results: Body weight, backfat thickness, litter size, lactation feed intake, and milk composition of sows, and growth of their progeny were not different among dietary treatments. In blood profiles, a quadratic increase (Quadratic, p<0.05) in serum triiodothyronine (T3) concentration and a linear increase (Linear, p<0.01) in serum thyroxine (T4) concentration were observed at d 110 of gestation as dietary RSM supplementation levels increased. However, serum T3 and T4 concentrations in lactating sows and their piglets were not affected by RSM supplementation of gestation diets. Concentrations of serum total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein cholesterol in sows were not influenced by dietary treatments, whereas serum glucose level in sows decreased linearly at d 110 of gestation (Linear, p<0.05) by increasing dietary RSM supplementation in gestation diets. Conclusion: The RSM could be supplemented to gestation diets up to 12% with no detrimental effects on reproductive performance and growth of their progeny. However, increasing supplementation levels of RSM in gestation diets may increase serum T3 and T4 concentrations and decrease serum glucose concentration of sows in late gestation.

Most studies on the vibration analysis of a beam-column with ends elastically restrained and various intermediate constraints have been based on the Euler beam theory, which is inadequate for beam-columns of low slenderness ratios. In this paper, analytical methods for vibration and dynamic sensitivity of a Timoshenko beam-column with ends elastically restrained and various intermediate constraints are presented. Firstly, an exact solution method is shown. Since the exact method requires considerable computational effort, a Rayleigh-Ritz analysis is also investigated. In the latter two kinds of trial functions are examined for comparisions : eigenfunctions of the base system(the system without intermediate constraints) and polynomials having properties corresponding to the eigenfunctions of the base system. The results of some numerical Investigations show that the Rayleigh-Ritz analysis using the characteristic polynomials is competitive with the exact solutions in accuracy, and that it is much more efficient in computations than using the eigenfunctions of the base system, especially in the dynamic sensitivity analysis. In addition, the prediction of the changes of natural frequencies due to the changes of design variables based on the first order sensitivity is in good agreements with that by the ordinary reanalysis as long as the changes of design variables are moderate.

Effects of chitosan-ascorbate(CA) and calcium lactate(CL) on fermentation and quality of squid sikhae were investigated CA and LA were added at $0.5\%$ (designated CA1 and CL1) and $1.0\%$(CA2 and CL2) concentrations, respectively and fermented for 12 days at $10^{\circ}C$. pH of CA-added sikhae was higher than that of control, while acidity of the former was lower than that of the latter. During 12 days of fermentation, CA-added sikhae showed higher protease activity than control by $2.3\~2.6$ times and CL-added sikhae by $2.8\~3.6$ times. At 12 days of fermentation, CA-added sikhae revealed higher protease activity than control by $1.2\~1.4$ times and CL-added sikhae by $1.5\~1.9$ times. CA-added sikhae also showed higher amino-nitrogen content than control by $1.4\~1.7$ times and CL-added sikhae by $1.9\~3.5$ times. In comparison of CA1 with CA2, CA2 showed all higher pH, protease and amylase activity, and amino-nitrogen content than CA1. In analysis of electrophoresis, molecular weights of major proteins in ~w squid were $116.9\~119.0$, 96.5 and 59.3kDa. However, after fermentation for 12 days, a protein band of 119.0kDa disappeared but a new protein band with below 14 kDa appeared in sikhae, especially CA-added sikhae. In sensory evaluation, the intensity of sour taste was the highest for control and the lowest for CA2. Softness of squid was the highest for control and the lowest for CA2. Overall acceptability was the best for CA2. In conclusion, these results suggest use of $1\%$ CA in sikhae preparation as addition of CA(CA2) increased the protease and amylase activity, nitrogen content of amino form, sensory acceptability as well as shelf-life of sikhae.
This study, to enhance the sterilization, browning inhibition and precooling effect of electrolyzed oxidizing water(EOW) as cleaning water on food industry, was carried out to investigate the efficacy of electrolyzed oxidizing water(EOW) with 0.85% NaCl, 0.5% ethanol, polysorbate 80 of 1 ppm, 0.5% lemon juice and 0.5% citron juice. Escherichia coli KCTC 1039 with initial count of 5.63$\times$10$\^$8/ CFU/mL were reduced to <10$^1$CFU/mL after 15∼30 sec when it was treated by electrolyzed oxidizing water added with various food additives. Bacillus cereus KCTC 1012 were reduced to <10$^1$ CFU/mL after 2 minutes treatment with electrolyzed oxidizing water containing polysorbate 80 and ethanol. Iactobacillus plantarum KCTC 3108 were reduced to <10$^1$CFU/mL after 30 sec treatment with electrolyzed oxidizing water containing polysorbate 80, citron juice and lemon juice, respectively. Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora KCTC 2776 were reduced to <10$^1$CFU/mL after 30 sec treatment with electrolyzed oxidizing water containing polysorbate 80 and lemon juice. Browning inhibition effect was determined by comparison of polyphenol oxidase activity. Inhibition ratio of polyphenol oxidase was approximately 62∼84% in most treatments with the exception of 57% and 25% inhibition by 0.5% ascorbic acid and polysorbate 80, respectively. Sliced potato dipped in electrolyzed oxidizing water containing NaCl and citron juice for 30 minutes showed significantly low PPO activity, 64 units in treatment with NaCl and 91 units in treatment with citron juice. At the same time, changes in color value(△E) of sliced potato was below 3 in most treatments.

The majority of the described experimental results deal with relatively pure aluminium. Variations were made in the pretreatment of the aluminum substrates and an investigation was performed on the resulting changes in oxide layer composition and chemistry. Subsequently, the bonding behavior of the surfaces was investigated by using model adhesion molecules. These molecules were chosen to represent the bonding functionality of an organic polymer. They were applied onto the pretreated surfaces as a monolayer and the bonding behavior was studied using infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy. A direct and clear relation was found between the hydroxyl fraction on the oxide surfaces and the amount of molecules that subsequently bonded to the surface. Moreover, it was found that most bonds between the oxide surface and organic functional groups are not stable in the presence of water. The best performance was obtained using molecules, which are capable of chemisorption with the oxide surface. Finally, it was found that freshly prepared relatively pure aluminum substrates, which are left in air, rapidly lose their bonding capacity towards organic functional groups. This can be attributed to the adsorption of contamination and water to the oxide surface. In addition the adhesion of a typical epoxy-coated aluminum system was investigated during exposure to water at different temperatures. The coating was found to quite rapidly lose its adhesion upon exposure to water. This rapid loss of adhesion corresponds well with the data where it was demonstrated that the studied epoxy coating only bonds through physisorptive hydrogen bonding, these bonds not being stable in the presence of water. After the initial loss the adhesion of the coating was however found to recover again and even exceeded the adhesion prior to exposure. The improvement could be ascribed to the growth of a thin oxyhydroxide layer on the aluminum substrate, which forms a new, water-stable and stronger bond with the epoxy coating. Two routes for improvement of adhesion are finally decribed including an interphasial polymeric thin layer and a treatment in boiling water of the substrate before coating takes place. The adhesion properties were finely also studied as a function of the Mg content of the alloys. It was shown that an enrichment of Mg in the oxide could take place when Mg containing alloys are heat-treated. It is expected that for these alloys the (hydr)oxide fraction also depends on the pre-treatment and on the distribution of magnesium as compared to the aluminium hydroxides, with a direct impact on adhesive properties.
