  • The purpose of this study is to understand the effect of volunteer activities and self-development activities of elementary school students on subjective happiness and to verify the mediating effect of leadership life skills based on this. The subjects were surveyed in 2018 by the Korea Youth Policy Institute, and out of 2,739 elementary school students, unresponsive and missing values were removed and the final 1,978 were selected. As a result of the analysis, it was found that leadership life skills were completely mediated in the relationship between volunteer work and subjective happiness of elementary school students. For the analysis method, SPSS 25.0 program was used to achieve the purpose of this study. And to verify the mediating effect, a 3-step mediating effect analysis was performed by Baron & Keeny(1986). It was confirmed that leadership life skills were completely mediated in the relationship between self-development activities and subjective happiness. Based on these research results, in order to increase the subjective happiness of elementary school students, measures were discussed to develop practical skills that can improve communication and organizational management skills, which are leadership life skills.

  • This study aimed to explore empirically social work practice skills that are being used most frequently in a variety of social work settings in Korea. Out of 669 questionnaire sent, 361 were returned. Exploratory factor analysis revealed 7 underlying axes from 132 most frequently used practice skills. They were named as: casework skills, group work skills, family work skills, community work skills, volunteer managing skills, program development and evaluation skills, and agency managing skills. Second factor analysis explored underlying sub-factors from each of the seven axes. Researcher identified 42 principal skills that can represent the underlying sub-factors explored in the previous stage. Finally, research checked if the different work settings use different practice skill axes. Study results can be used to connect social work education settings and practice fields in Korea. There has been an argument that Korean social work education has been teaching improper practice skills to the to-be-social workers.

  • Background: Little is known about the effects of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) on work-related quality of life in nurses. We aimed to investigate the effect of PMS on work-related quality of life in Turkish nurses. Methods: A total of 134 volunteer nurses were included in this cross-sectional study between January 2015 and March 2015. One hundred and thirty-four nurses completed a questionnaire regarding demographic data, the Premenstrual Syndrome Scale (PMSS), and the Work-Related Quality of Life Scale (WRQoL). The nurses were classified as having or not having premenstrual syndrome according to the PMSS. Results: The average age was $29.5{\pm}7.1years$ and the prevalence of PMS was 38.1%. The total score of PMSS was significantly negatively correlated with the overall score (r = -0.341; p < 0.001) and all subscale scores of the WRQoL and ranged from -0.207 to -0.402 (p < 0.05 for all). All of the WRQoL subscale scores except stress at work (p = 0.179) in nurses with PMS were significantly lower than those of nurses without PMS (p < 0.05). The age (${\beta}=-0.258$; p = 0.021) and PMSS total score (${\beta}=-0.314$; p < 0.001) increment negatively; however, optimistic thinking (${\beta}=0.228$; p = 0.008) positively affected overall WRQoL score. Conclusion: Nurses with PMS have decreased levels of work-related quality of life in their professional lives. Methods to help cope with cyclic premenstrual symptoms may be used, and as a result, productivity and work-related quality of life may increase.

  • This paper empirically analyses patterns of time allocation of the elderly, examining economic participation and volunteer work or social activities under the assumption that such activities have positive effects not only on the individuals and on the local communities but also on the society as a whole. As the result of descriptive analysis on the Korean Time Use Survey 1999, 2004 and 2009, the adults aged 60 to 64 years decrease time for paid work rapidly while increase time for passive leisure comparably slowly. In terms of time for active leisure, they devote less time to volunteer work and social activities, however, more time to self-centered activities such as education, cultural events, sport and fitness, and religious work. The overall pattern of decrease in time on economic or social participation for the elderly appeared be more significant in the birth cohorts of the early 1940s than those born in the late 1930s. The analysis implies that it is necessary for the government to encourage them to participate in community activities, either economic or social, with necessary policy responses. The result of the Tobit analysis on the dependent variables of each type of the 6 leisure activities demonstrated the self-centered active leisure time has increased over the last decaseds, whose pattern appeared to be more strengthened when the proportion of the elderly with higher education has increased.

About the coping strategies, it was found that students utilized 'problem-solving focused' the most, pursuing 'social support' as the second, and 'avoidance' strategies as the least. Factors influencing on differences of stress level depending on field work experiences were whether they had previous field experience, how much time they participated in previous volunteer activities, whether they attended orientation for their field practicum, regularity/frequency of supervision, the satisfaction on their social work/welfare major, and the satisfaction on their field practicum or supervision. Based on the results, suggestions for development in field education system were presented.

  • Individuals who are vulnerable during disaster - including elderly, people with disabilities, children, pregnant women and etc - have a strong desire to protect themselves when disaster strikes since they are less capable to deal with the impact of disaster. Their experience and effort to keep them safe can be used as a resource to reduce the impacts of disaster not only for them but also for the community as a whole. Therefore, voluntary disaster management program will contribute to our society as a tool to respond effectively to disaster not only to meet the vulnerable's special needs but also to enhance community safety and public interest. This paper suggests a model that able "disaster vulnerable population" to take a leadership role in identifying risk and vulnerability factors, recommending disaster management strategy, and through that, contributing to enhance society's disaster plan. Therefore, this study aimed to surveyed individuals including "disaster vulnerable population" in order to assess the vulnerable's participation in disaster related volunteer work and surveyed associated institutions(volunteer centers, community centers) in order to research currently existing relevant programmes and the participation of "disaster vulnerable population" in such programmes. Also conducted focus group interview to explore voluntary program which will possibly integrate "disaster vulnerable population" into disaster management activities. As a result, three types of voluntary disaster management programs - education, public-relations, and activity - were suggested.

In addition, we would like to see if adolescents can improve their satisfaction with life away from the negative emotions they are currently feeling through physical activities such as hand-help and consolation activities and check if self-esteem has mediating effects in this process. Design: Survey. Methods: The survey was conducted by the surveyor, with a total of 9,041. Results: First, it shows that the higher frequency of adolescents' physical activity leads to higher self-esteem and subjective well-being. Second, it shows that the higher the self-esteem leads to higher subjective well-being felt by adolescents. Third, the level of youth physical activity itself contributes to subjective well-being while also affecting self-esteem, and the self-esteem also affects the subjective well-being that adolescents perceive. • The objective of this study is to explore the situations and extension roles for rural elderly welfare program in North Dakota, USA. With a growing older population, aging has become an important issue for extension. Services for rural elderly available in North Dakota were adult day care, home health care, senior insurance counseling, nutrition and medication assistance programs, support groups, legal assistance, meals on wheels, nursing homes and more. With a growing older population, aging has become an important issue for extension. Extension provides programs and services for rural elderly. This study was conducted by literature review. First, many rural elderly Americans are actively engaged in volunteer work and have made substantial contributions to their communities. Second, extension educators from interdisciplinary areas should work together to develop programs. Extension programs can include intergenerational programs to help younger generations learn about the issue. Third, extension can collaborate with other agencies and groups to offer support groups. Offering educational programs is a key to empowering older people. Fourth, elderly residents may be the only increasing natural resource for volunteering in general, and for participation in community improvement in particular. Fifth, extension educators should be proactive in working with agencies to provide social access and in helping older people be actively engaged in their lives, especially in rural areas.
