Our previous study showed that switching the inhaled gas from hypoxic gas to hyperoxic gas for 10 minutes increased tumor oxygenation and that the magnitude of oxyhemoglobin increase responded earlier than tumor volume change after chemotherapy. During 10 minutes of inhaled-oxygen modulation, oxyhemoglobin concentration first shows a rapid increase and then a slow but gradual increase, which has been fitted with a double-exponential equation in this study. Two amplitude values, amplitudes 1 and 2, respectively represent the magnitudes of rapid and slow increase of oxyhemoglobin. The trends of changes in amplitudes 1 and 2 were different, depending on tumor volume when chemotherapy started. However, both amplitudes 1 and 2 changed earlier than tumor volume, regardless of when chemotherapy was initiated. These results imply that by observing amplitude 1 changes post chemotherapy, we can reduce the time of a respiratory challenge from 10 minutes to less than 2 minutes, to see the chemotherapy response. We believe that by reducing the time of the respiratory challenge, we have taken a step forward to translating our previous study into clinical application.
Chiral epoxides are useful chiral synthons in organic synthesis, and various biological methods have been investigated for their production. In this work, the enantioselective resolution of racemic styrene oxide was investigated using Aspergillus niger sp. for the production of optically pure (S)-styrene oxide. The enantioselectivity and initial hydrolysis rates of the racemic substrate were highly dependent of the pH, temperature, and the volume ratio of cosolvent. Experimental sets of pH, temperature, and the volume ratio of cosolvent were investigated using a central composite experimental design, and reaction conditions were optimized by response surface analysis. The optimal conditions of pH, temperature, and the volume ratio of cosolvent were determined to be 7.78, $28.32^{\circ}C$, and 2.4%(v/v), respectively, and optically pure (S)-styrene oxide (>99% ee) was obtained at 35% yield using this microbial enantioselective hydrolysis reaction.

Margin inclusion or exclusion remains the most critical and controversial aspect of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for metastatic brain tumors. This review aimed to examine the available literature on the impact of margins in SRS of brain metastasis and to assess the response of some medical physicists on the use of these margins. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses method was used to review articles published in PubMed, Embase, and Science Direct databases from January 2012 to December 2022 using the following keywords: planning target volume, brain metastasis, margin, and stereotactic radiosurgery. A simple survey consisting of five questions was completed by ten medical physicists with experience in SRS treatment planning. The results were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 26.0. Of the 1,445 articles identified, only 38 articles were chosen. Of these, eight papers were deemed relevant to the focus of this review. These papers showed an increase in the risk of radionecrosis, whereas differences in local control were variable as the margin increased. In the survey, the response rate to whether or not to use margins in SRS, a critical question, was 50%. Margin addition increases the risk of radio necrosis. The local control rate varies among treatment modalities and cannot be generalized. From the survey, no consensus was reached regarding the use of these margins. This calls for further deliberations among professionals directly involved in SRS.
In this study, three-dimensional imcompressible viscous flow analysis and optimization using response surface method are presented for the design of a jet fan. Steady, imcompressible, three-dimensional Reynolds averaged Wavier-Stokes equations are used as governing equations, and standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model is chosen as a turbulence model. Governimg equations are discretized using finite volume method. Sweep angles are used as design variables for the shape optimization of the impeller in response surface method. The experimental points which are needed to construct response surface are obtained from the D-optimal design and finally the shape of impeller Is achieved from using a numerical optimization for the response surface which is obtained from CFD.
Enantioselective hydrolysis of racemic styrene oxide by Rhodotorula sp. CL-82 was investigated. Reaction conditions including pH, temperature, and volume ratio of organic cosolvent were optimized using response surface methodology, and the optimal conditions of pH, temperature, and the volume ratio of cosolvent were determined to be 7.64, $33.26^{\circ}C$, and 3.09 %(v/v), respectively. Chiral (S)-phenyl oxirane could be obtained with high enantiomeric purity (ee > 99%) and 20% yield (theoretical yield = 50%) at the optimal rendition.
The main objective of the present study is to predict the process window of injection-compression molding corresponding to the capability of an injection machine for fabricating 7 inch LGP. The open distance and volume filled after injection stage were found to be two important factors that affect critical requirements such as flow length, injection pressure and clamping force for the process. Process window for the key factors was also predicted by response surface method. As a result, predicted process window for open distance and volume filled after injection stage satisfying the critical requirement with a given injection machine was in the range of 60 ~ 75%, and 104.00 ~ 104.25%, respectively.
In this article, the multiphysics response of magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) cantilever beam subjected to thermo-mechanical loading is analysed. The equilibrium equations of the system are obtained with the aid of the principle of total potential energy. The constitutive equations of a MEE material accounting the thermal fields are used for analysis. The corresponding finite element (FE) formulation is derived and model of the beam is generated using an eight noded 3D brick element. The 3D FE formulation developed enables the representation of governing equations in all three axes, achieving accurate results. Also, geometric, constitutive and loading assumptions required to dimensionality reduction can be avoided. Numerical evaluation is performed on the basis of the derived formulation and the influence of various mechanical loading profiles and volume fractions on the direct quantities and stresses is evaluated. In addition, an attempt has been made to compare the individual effect of thermal and mechanical loading with the combined effect. It is believed that the numerical results obtained helps in accurate design and development of sensors and actuators.
The relative efficacy on the renal function of rabbits by oral administration of furosemide and 1 : 2 furosemide-PVP coprecipitate was compared by measuring the urine volume in response to maximal response and the amounts of electrolytes excreted in urine. The furosemide produced a rapid onset, short duration of diuresis, in contrast, the 1: 2 furosemide-PVP coprecipitate, a rapid onset, significantly larger magnitude, and longer duration of diuresis and therefore the bioavailability of furosemide from the coprecipitate were increased significantly. The average urine volume and the amount of sodium and potassium excreted in urine were increased about 2.9-, 14.8-, and 1.8-fold from furosemide, and about 6.2-, 24.2-, and 3.6-fold from 1 : 2 furosemide- PVP 40,000 coprecipitate, rerpectively, comparing by their control values.
The response of concrete to transient dynamic loading has received extensive attention for both civil and military applications. Accordingly, thoroughly understanding the response and failure modes of concrete subjected to impact or explosive loading is vital to the protection provided by fortifications. Reactive powder concrete (RPC), as developed by Richard and Cheyrezy (1995) in recent years, is a unique mixture that is cured such that it has an ultra-high compressive strength. In this work, the concrete cylinders with different steel fiber volume fractions were subjected to repeated impact loading by a split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) device. Experimental results indicate that the ability of repeated impact resistance of ultra-high-strength concrete was markedly superior to that of other specimens. Additionally, the rate of damage was decelerated and the energy absorption of ultra-high-strength concrete improved as the steel fiber volume fraction increased.
Dynamic response of a laminated porous concrete beam reinforced by nanoparticles subjected to harmonic transverse dynamic load is investigated considering structural damping. The effective nanocomposite properties are evaluated on the basis of Mori-Tanaka model. The concrete beam is modeled by the sinusoidal shear deformation theory (SSDT). Utilizing nonlinear strains-deflection, energy relations and Hamilton's principal, the governing final equations of the concrete laminated beam are calculated. Utilizing differential quadrature method (DQM) as well as Newmark method, the dynamic displacement of the concrete laminated beam is discussed. The influences of porosity parameter, nanoparticles volume percent, agglomeration of nanoparticles, boundary condition, geometrical parameters of the concrete beam and harmonic transverse dynamic load are studied on the dynamic displacement of the laminated structure. Results indicated that enhancing the nanoparticles volume percent leads to decrease in the dynamic displacement about 63%. In addition, with considering porosity of the concrete, the dynamic displacement enhances about 2.8 time.
