Boundary Surface Volume Rendering Based on Depth Buffer (깊이버퍼 기반의 경계면 볼륨렌더링)

  • This paper focuses on a boundary surface based ray casting. In general the boundary surface based ray casting is processed in two stages. The first stage finds boundary surfaces and stores them into buffers. The second stage calculates a distance from a viewpoint to the voxels of the interested area by projecting boundary surfaces on the view plane, and then starts to traverse a volume data space with the distance. Our approach differs from the general boundary surface based ray casting in processing the first stage of it. Contrast to the typical boundary surface based ray casting where all boundary surfaces of volume data are stored into buffers, they are projected on the planes aligned to the axis of volume data coordinates and these projected data are stored into 6 buffers. Such maneuver shortens time for ray casting, and reduces memory usage because it can be carried out independently from the amount of the volume data.

Spatial Data Structure for Efficient Representation of Very Large Sparse Volume Data for 3D Reconstruction (3차원 복원을 위한 대용량 희소 볼륨 데이터의 효율적인 저장을 위한 공간자료구조)

  • When a fixed-sized memory allocation method is used for sparse volume data, a considerable memory space is in general wasted, which becomes more serious for a large volume of high resolution. In this paper, in order to reduce such unnecessary memory consumption, we propose a volume representation method to store mostly voxels that represent valid information rather than all voxels in a fixed volume space. Then our method is compared with the conventional static memory allocation method, an octree-based representation, and a voxel hashing method in terms of memory usage and computation speed. In particular, we compare the proposed method and the voxel hashing method with respect to implementation of the GPU-based Marching Cubes algorithm.

  • This paper introduces effective noise removal method for medical ultrasound volume data. Ultrasound volume data need to be filtered because it has a lot of noise. Conventional 2d filtering methods ignore information of adjacent layers and conventional 3d filtering methods are slow or have simple filter that are not efficient for removing noise and also don't equally operate filtering because that don't take into account ultrasound' sampling character. To solve this problem, we introduce method that fast perform in parallel bilateral filtering that is known as good for noise removal and adjust proportionally window size depending on that's position. Experiments compare noise removal and loss of original data among average filtered or biliteral filtered or adaptive biliteral filtered ultrasound volume rendering images. In this way, we can more efficiently and correctly remove noise of ultrasound volume data.

An Efficient Volume Rendering for Dental Diagnosis Using Cone Beam CT data (치과 원추형 CT 영상 데이터 분석에 효율적인 볼륨 렌더링 방법)

  • The advantage of direct volume rendering is to visualize structures of interest in the volumetric data. However it is still difficult to simultaneously show interior and exterior structures. Recently, cone beam computed tomography(CBCT) has been used for dental diagnosis. Despite of its usefulness, there is a limitation in the detection of interior structures such as pulp and inferior alveolar nerve canal. In this paper, we propose an efficient volume rendering model for visualizing important interior as well as exterior structures of dental CBCT. It is based on the concept of illustrative volume rendering and enhances boundary and silhouette of structures. Moreover, we present a new method that assigns a different color to structures in the rear so as to distinguish the front ones from the rear ones. This proposed rendering model has been implemented on graphics hardware, so that we can achieve interactive performance. In addition, we can render teeth, pulp and canal without cumbersome segmentation step.

  • This study predicts the future world seaborne trade volume with econometrics methods using 23-year time series data provided by Clarksons. For this purpose, this study uses simple regression analysis, exponential smoothing method and seemingly unrelated regression model (SUR Model). This study is meaningful in that it predicts worldwide total seaborne trade volume and seaborne traffic in four major items (container, bulk, crude oil, and LNG) from 2019 to 2023 as there are few prior studies that predict future seaborne traffic using recent data. It is expected that more useful references can be provided to trade related workers if the analysis period was increased and additional variables could be included in future studies.

Cell-Based Wavelet Compression Method for Volume Data (볼륨 데이터를 위한 셀 기반 웨이브릿 압축 기법)

  • 본 논문은 방대한 크기의 볼륨 데이타를 효율적으로 렌더링하기 위한 셀 기반 웨이브릿 압축 방법을 제시한다. 이 방법은 볼륨을 작은 크기의 셀로 나누고, 셀 단위로 웨이브릿 변환을 한 다음 복원 순서에 따른 런-길이(run-length) 인코딩을 수행하여 높은 압축율과 빠른 복원을 제공한다. 또한 최근 복원 정보를 캐쉬 자료 구조에 효율적으로 저장하여 복원 시간을 단축시키고, 에러 임계치의 정규화로 비정규화된 웨이브릿 압축보다 빠른 속도로 정규화된 압축과 같은 고화질의 이미지를 생성하였다. 본 연구의 성능을 평가하기 위하여 {{}} 해상도의 볼륨 데이타를 압축하여 쉬어-? 분해(shear-warp factorization) 알고리즘에 적용한 결과, 손상이 거의 없는 상태로 약 27:1의 압축율이 얻어졌고, 약 3초의 렌더링 시간이 걸렸다.Abstract This paper presents an efficient cell-based wavelet compression method of large volume data. Volume data is divided into individual cell of {{}} voxels, and then wavelet transform is applied to each cell. The transformed cell is run-length encoded according to the reconstruction order resulting in a fairly good compression ratio and fast reconstruction. A cache structure is used to speed up the process of reconstruction and a threshold normalization scheme is presented to produce a higher quality rendered image. We have combined our compression method with shear-warp factorization, which is an accelerated volume rendering algorithm. Experimental results show the space requirement to be about 27:1 and the rendering time to be about 3 seconds for {{}} data sets while preserving the quality of an image as like as using original data.

Refractive Index and Excess Volume for Diisopropylamine + Isomeric Butanol Mixtures in terms of Nakata and Sakurai model

  • Alkyl amines are widely used in various industries. Nowadays these are also used in CO2 capture technology because amines react with CO2 and remove it from the flue gas. To make the amines more compatible towards this technology, physico chemical properties may be altered by mixing with other solvents. In the present report, we measured the refractive properties of pure diisopropylamine (DIPA) (1) + isomeric butanol (2) at 298.15 K to 308.15 K. The 𝚫n values were positive for DIPA + n-butanol or sec-butanol or isobutanol or tert-butanol mixtures. The measured data was correlated with Redlich-Kister equation. The excess molar volume data were predicted from refractive index data using Nakata and Sakurai model. The experimental data were also predicted by various correlations, and the prediction capability of these correlations was reported through standard deviation. Further, the deviation in refractive index (𝚫n) data was interpreted by the consideration of specific molecular interactions between DIPA and isomeric butanol.

Scattered Light Representation in Accordance with the Material Using Scatterer Template in Volume Rendering (볼륨 렌더링에서 산란자 템플릿을 이용한 재질별 산란광 표현)

  • For realistic rendering volume to calculate the light effects as well as the shade is essential. In order to produce the high quality of the resulting image, it is necessary to represent a global illumination, and it should be considered an indirect effect of the direct impact and scattering of light. It requires a lot of resources in order to perform this operation and, in particular, is very expensive when large amounts of data to be rendered as a volume data is consumed. In this paper, we generate a scatterer template according to the physical laws for each material. Considering that each object having material property stores photons of the template based on the Lambert illumination model. When the volume rendering in this paper, using the photon is stored in the template, based on the voxel to be sampled within the examination volume occluded, and it represents the global illumination of the scattering. Because the materials produced by the template requires a less resource only if comprised of a complex material, a simple operation can be expressed within the scattering volume at a low cost through.

Improvement of Representative Value through Comparison of the Reliability of point detector : focusing on traffic volume (지점검지기 신뢰도 비교를 통한 대표치 생성 개선방안 : 구간 교통량을 중심으로)

  • With the increase in image detectors, concerns about the reliability of traffic information are increasing. In this paper, we propose a method to generate reliable traffic volume using analysis of the point detector data as a representative value. Therefore, targeting expressway, we analyzed the difference in traffic volume collected by loop and image detector, and verified statistically using t-test, and finally analyzed the error rate compare to the real traffic volume. Analysis revealed that there was a statistically difference the traffic date collected by the loop detector and the image detector, in the same period, the same time, respectively. In addition, the difference between the actual traffic volume and traffic that have been collected in a loop detector was the lowest Therefore, creating a traffic volume of representative value, we proposed a method to use loop detector than the average traffic volume collected by each detector. It shows that it is more important to use one high-quality data rather than various low-quality data to produce a representative value.

GPU based Maximum Intensity Projection using Clipping Plane Re-rendering Method (절단면 재렌더링 기법을 이용한 GPU 기반 MIP 볼륨 렌더링)

  • Maximum Intensity Projection (MIP) identifies patients' anatomical structures from MR or CT data sets. Recently, it becomes possible to generate MIP images with interactive speed by exploiting Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) even in large volume data sets. Generally, volume boundary plane is obliquely crossed with view-aligned texture plane in hardware-texture based volume rendering. Since the ray sampling distance is not increased at volume boundary in volume rendering, the aliasing problem occurs due to data loss. In this paper, we propose an efficient method to overcome this problem by Re-rendering volume boundary planes. Our method improves image quality to make dense distances between samples near volume boundary which is a high frequency area. Since it is only 6 clipping planes are additionally needed for Re-rendering, high quality rendering can be performed without sacrificing computational efficiency. Furthermore, our method couldbe applied to Minimum Intensity Projection (MinIP) volume rendering.
