A fiber optic voltage sensor using photoelastic effect of a single-mode optical fiber, excited with a 632.8 nm He-Ne laser, is developed. The photoelastic effect is produced by piezoelectric effect for the voltage measurement. It is found that the detector output voltage is proportional to the applied voltage. Also, the frequency of the output voltage is equal to that of the applied voltage. Experimental results from a laboratory model demonstrate the feasibility of the sensor for field application in high-voltage systems.

In this paper, we report the wall voltage transfer characteristic between sustain electrodes according to the address bias voltage in a 3-electrodes surface discharge type ac PDP by the VT close curve measurement technique. The result shows the change of wall voltage according to the gap voltage variation depends on the address bias voltage.
The secondary voltage control is the method the pilot bus controls the voltage of the voltage control area sufficiently uncoupled form its neighbours within a area to k slightly influenced by the actions carried out in the other areas. This paper presents the comparison of three methods which determines the voltage control area for the secondary voltage control in power system. Additionally, this paper selects the fitted thing of three methods determining the voltage control area, VSSA, and using it applies the procedure determining the voltage control area to KEPCO system.
Coupling capacitor voltage transformers(CCVTs) have been used in extra or ultra high voltage systems to obtain the standard low voltage signal for protection and measurement. For fast suppression of the phenomenon of ferroresonance, three winding CCVTs are used instead of two winding CCVTs. A tuning reactor is connected between a capacitor voltage divider and a voltage transformer to reduce the phase angle difference between the primary and secondary voltages in the steady state. Slight distortion of the secondary voltage is generated when no fault occurs. However, when a fault occurs, the secondary voltage of the CCVT has significant errors due to the transient components such as dc offset component and/or high frequency components resulting from the fault. This paper proposes an algorithm for compensating the secondary voltage of a three winding CCVT in the time domain. With the values of the measured secondary voltage of the three winding CCVT, the secondary, tertiary and primary currents and voltages are estimated; then the voltages across the capacitor and the tuning reactor are calculated and then added to the measured voltage. Test results indicate that the algorithm can successfully compensate the distorted secondary voltage of the three winding CCVT irrespective of the fault distance, the fault impedance and the fault inception angle as well as in the steady state.
In this study, a transition of power quality was characterized by non-linear voltage electric equipments under voltage sag. The test was inputted voltage sag to IPC(Sag Generator) from AVR, and then to equipments by IPC which adjust voltage magnitude and duration. The load test which non-linear voltage electric equipments used PLC, Magnetic Contactor, SMPS, HID Lamp. The test result was different from each other according to a manufacturing companys, models, and equipments. PLC was greatly described to be stabilized voltage sag in case of no load then rated load. Magnetic Contactor was made a difference to phase angles on voltage sag, which was $0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$. HPD Lamp was described to be stabilized the sodium lamp, and to be unstabilized the metal hailed lamp. The test result was showed CBEMA curve that stand for evaluated responsiveness of voltage sag. This study was tested description to dynamic characteristics on non-linear voltage electric equipment under voltage sag. There was hoped that power system designed the essential particulars.
This paper presents DC voltage recovery time improvement method in DC link of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) with offshore wind farm. The wind farm should be satisfied Low Voltage Ride Through(LVRT) control strategy when grid faults occur. The LVRT control strategy indicates actions which have to be executed according to the voltage dip ratio and the fault duration. However, The LVRT control strategy makes between wind farm and power system through DC Link voltage when grid fault occurs. The de-loading scheme is one of the method to control the DC voltage. But de-loading scheme need to long DC voltage recovery time. Thus, this paper proposes an improved de-loading scheme and we analysis DC voltage and active power reference through a simulation.
We have theoretically investigated the effects of the interplay between the driving voltage of Mach-Zehnder(MZ) modulators and the bandwidth of low-pass filters(LPF) in 10[Gb/s] duobinary modulation systems. For the change of driving voltage ratios(driving voltage/switching voltage), the transmission performance has been evaluated over 200[km] of single-mode fiber(SMF) systems. For driving voltage ratios with smaller than 100[%], the transmission performance has been maintained and greatly affected by the bandwidth of LPFs than the driving voltage. For driving voltage ratios with larger than 100[%], the transmission performance has been degraded and is not sensitive to the bandwidth of LPFs. To see the limitation of driving voltage, we have reduced the driving voltage ratio to 50[%]. Our results suggest that 10[Gb/s] duobinary signals with driving voltage ratio with smaller than 100[%] have been transmitted over 200[km] SMF within 2[dB] power penalty without dispersion compensation. For the driving voltage ratio with 50[%], we have verified that the transmission performance was maintained.
This research was carried out experiments of variety IGBTs for industrial inverter and electric vehicle. The devices for this paper were planar gate IGBT, trench gate IGBT and dual gate IGBT and we designed using same design and process parameters. As a result of experiments, the electrical characteristics of planar gate IGBT were 1,459 V of breakdown voltage, 4.04 V of threshold voltage and 4.7 V of on-state voltage drop. And the electrical characteristics of trench gate IGBT were 1,473 V of breakdown voltage, 4.11 V of threshold voltage and 3.17 V of on-state voltage drop. Lastly, the electrical characteristics of dual gate IGBT were 1,467 V of breakdown voltage, 4.14 V of threshold voltage and 3.08V of on-state voltage drop. We almost knew that the trench gate IGBT was superior to dual gate IGBT in terms of breakdown voltage. On the other hand, the dual gate IGBT was better than the trench gate IGBT in terms of on state voltage drop.
This paper proposes a power feedforward technique for the performance improvement of DC-link voltage control in the dynamic voltage restorer (DVR). The DC-link Voltage is able to be unstable for an instant owing to any change in the load and voltage sag. The distortion of the DC-link voltage leads to the negative influence on the performance of DVR. To mitigate the distortion of the DC-link voltage, the power feedforward component is calculated by the load power and the grid voltage, and then it is added to the reference current of the conventional DC-link voltage controller. By including output power feedforward component on the DC-link controller, the DC-link voltage can settle down more quickly than when the conventional DC-link voltage controller applied. The proposed technique was validated through the simulation and experimental results.
Automatic reclosing is a typical protection method in power distribution systems for clearing the temporary faults. However, it has a fatal weakness in regards to voltage sags because it produces successive voltage sags. In this paper, we explored successive impact of voltage sag due to the automatic reclosing of power distribution systems. The actual tests of low voltage loads were accomplished for obtaining the susceptibility of voltage sags. The final results of the test yielded power acceptability curves of voltage sag, and the curves were transformed the 3-dimensional CBEMA(Computer Business Equipment Manufacturer Association) format. For the quantitative evaluation of the impact of successive voltage sags, an assessment formulation using the voltage sag contour was proposed. The proposed formulation was tested by using the voltage sag contour data of IEEE standard and the results of the test. Through the case studies, we verified that the proposed method can be effectively used to evaluate the actual impact of successive voltage sans.
