  • High voltage gain converters are essential for distributed power generation systems with renewable energy sources, such as fuel cells and solar cells, because of their low voltage characteristics. This paper introduces a novel nonisolated DC-DC converter topology developed by combining an inverting buck-boost converter and voltage multipliers. In the proposed converter, the input voltage is connected in series with the output, and the majority of the input power is directly delivered to the load. The voltage multipliers are stacked in series to achieve high step-up voltage gain. The voltage stress across all of the switches and capacitors can be significantly reduced. As a result, the switches with low voltage ratings can be used to achieve high efficiency and low cost. To verify the validity of the proposed topology, a 360-W prototype converter is built to obtain the experimental results.

  • This paper proposes a performance improvement of existing single-phase current-fed qZ-Source inverter. Voltage gain of the traditional voltage-fed full-bridge inverter and single-phase current-fed qZ-source inverter is only equal to or smaller than input voltage. The proposed inverter can obtain twice higher voltage gain than the single-phase current-fed qZ-Source inverter by adding an extra switch and a capacitor in the circuit. In addition, the proposed inverter shares the common ground between dc input and ac output voltage. Therefore, the proposed inverter can eliminate the possible ground leakage current problem when it is used for grid-tied photovoltaic inverter system. A 120 W prototype inverter is built and tested to verify performances of the proposed inverter.

  • The use of high-gain-voltage step-up converters for distributed power generation systems is being popularized because of the need for new energy generation and power conversion technologies. In this study, a new constructed high-gain-boost DC-DC converter was proposed to coordinate low voltage output DC sources, such as PV or fuel cell systems, with high DC bus (380 V) lines. Compared with traditional boost DC-DC converters, the proposed converter can create higher gain and has wider input voltage range and lower voltage stress for power semiconductors and passive elements. Moreover, the proposed topology produces multilevel DC voltage output, which is the main advantage of the proposed topology. Steady-state analysis in continuous conduction mode of the proposed converter is discussed in detail. The practicability of the proposed DC-DC converter is presented by experimental results with a 300 W prototype converter.

  • Floating inverter amplifiers (FIAs) have recently garnered considerable attention owing to their high energy efficiency and inherent resilience to input common-mode voltages and process-voltage-temperature variations. Since the voltage gain of a simple FIA is low, it is typically cascaded or cascoded to achieve a higher voltage gain. However, cascading poses stability concerns in closed-loop applications, while cascoding limits the output swing. This study introduces a gain-enhanced FIA that features cross-coupled body biasing. Through simulations, it is demonstrated that the proposed FIA designed using a 28-nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology with a 1-V power supply can achieve a high voltage gain (> 90 dB) suitable for dynamic open-loop applications. The proposed FIA can also be used as a closed-loop amplifier by adjusting the amount of positive feedback due to the cross-coupled body biasing. The capability of achieving a high gain with minimum-length devices makes the proposed FIA a promising candidate for low-power, high-speed sensor interface systems.

  • This paper presents the digital control of single-phase power factor correction(PFC) converter which has the variable gain according to the condition of inner control loop error. Generally the gain of inner current control loop in single-stage PFC converter has a constant magnitude. This has a bad influence on the power factor because current loop doesn't operate smoothly in the condition that input voltage is low In particular a digital controller has more time delay than an analog controller and degrades This drops the phase margin of the total digital PFC system,. It causes the problem that the gain of current control loop isn't increased enough. In addition the oscillation happens in the peak value of the input voltage open loop PFC system gain changes according to ac input voltage. These aspects make the design of the digital PFC controller difficult The digital PFC controller presented in this paper has a variable gain of current control loop according to input voltage. The 1kW converter was used to verify the efficiency of the digital PFC controller.

  • This paper presents a single switch, high step-up, non-isolated dc-dc converter suitable for renewable energy applications. The proposed converter is composed of a coupled inductor, a passive clamp circuit, a switched capacitor and voltage lift circuits. The passive clamp recovers the leakage inductance energy of the coupled inductor and limits the voltage spike on the switch. The configuration of the passive clamp and switched capacitor circuit increases the voltage gain. A wide continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation range, a low turn ratio for the coupled inductor, low voltage stress on the switch, switch turn on under almost zero current switching (ZCS), low voltage stress on the diodes, leakage inductance energy recovery, high efficiency and a high voltage gain without a large duty cycle are the benefits of this converter. The steady state operation of the converter in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) is discussed and analyzed. A 200W prototype converter with a 28V input and a 380V output voltage is implemented and tested to verify the theoretical analysis.

  • In this paper, an alternative non-isolated DC-DC converter with a high voltage boosting capability is proposed. Two inductors are used and one of them has its flux linkage increases during its charging period to achieve a high step-up voltage gain. Among the three integrated capacitors, one portrays the partial characteristic of the switched-capacitor technique, while the other two are connected in series across the load. With the two switches controlled using the same duty cycle, the proposed topology demonstrates the merits of a higher and wider range of step-up voltage gain when compared with recent topologies. In addition, a reduction in loss is induced and a higher efficiency is ensured with all the voltage stresses constrained within the output voltage. Operation of the proposed converter is analyzed and validated through experimental results obtained with a prototype.

  • This paper proposes an accurate tunable-gain 1/x circuit. The output voltage of the 1/x circuit is generated by using a capacitor charging time that is inversely proportional to the input voltage. The output voltage is independent of the process parameters, because the output voltage depends on the ratios of the capacitors, resistors, and current mirrors. The voltage gain of the 1/x circuit is tuned by a 10-bit digital code. The 1/x circuit was fabricated using a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. Its core area is $0.011mm^2$ ($144{\mu}m{\times}78{\mu}m$), and it consumes $278{\mu}W$ at $V_{DD}=1.8V$ and $f_{CLK}=1MHz$. Its error is within 1.7% at $V_{IN}=0.05V$ to 1 V.

  • This study proposes a DC-DC converter topology of solid-state transformer for low-voltage DC distribution. The proposed topology consists of a voltage balancer and bipolar DC-DC converter. The voltage and current equations are obtained on the basis of switching states to design the controller. The open-loop gain of the controller is achieved using the derived voltage and current equations. The controller gain is selected through the frequency analysis of the loop gain. The inductance and capacitance are calculated considering the voltage and current ripples. The prototype is fabricated in accordance with the designed system parameters. The proposed topology and designed controller are verified through simulation and experiment.

  • Voltage step-down characteristics in Ring/Dot type piezoelectric transformer were examined as a function of the area of input electrode when the area of output electrode is fixed. The effects of driving frequency and load resistance on the voltage step-down characteristics were also examined. Voltage gain was greatly dependent on the driving frequency and load resistance, and showed a maximum gain at resonance frequency of the step-down transformer. The frequency where the maximum cutout voltage appears increased about 0.2% as the load resistance increased from 10 to 150 Ω. As the area of input electrode increased, the voltage gain and the efficiency of the transformer increased. Frequency dependence of efficiency of the step-down transformer revealed a similar tendency with the voltage gain curves. The maximum efficiency remarked 94% when the input voltage and the load resistance were 20 Vpp and 120 Ω, respectively.
