  • As the data rate between chip-to-chip gets high, the skin effect and load of pins deteriorate noise margin. With these, noise disturbances on the bus channel make it difficult for receiver circuits to read the data signal. This paper has proposed a new pre-emphasis driver circuit which achieves wide noise margin by enlarging the signal voltage range during data transition. When data is transferred from a memory chip to a controller, the output boltage of the driver circuit reaches the final values through the intermediate voltage level. The proposed driver supplies more currents applicable to a packet-based memory system, because it needs no additional control signal and realizes very small area. The circuit has been designed in a 0.18 ${\mu}m$ CMOS process, and HSPICE simulation results have shown that the data rate of 1.32 Gbps be achieved. Due to its result, the proposed driver can achieved higher speed than conventional driver by 10%.

  • In this paper, the electronic ballast was developed to control 250W metal halide lamp. To avoid acoustic resonance phenomenon, we calculated the acoustic resonance band and determined the driving frequence to from 70kHz to 100kHz. Due to the switching loss of MOSFET, many problems are caused in the inverter circuit during lighting the lamp, so we have reduced the loss by connecting the capacitor to reduce inrush current In this paper, main research area is to find the methods to operate the Iamp on regulated constant output. After detecting the current I and voltage V of the lamp, we changed the driving frequency by changing the DC voltage level.

  • The control of the weld bead shape is important in laser welding of the small parts. The effects of laser welding parameters on the weld bead shape in the pulsed Nd:YAG laser welding of STS 304L material were investigated. Shielding gas type, flow rate, pumping voltage, pulse frequency, pulse width, focal position and overlap distance were selected as laser welding parameters. Experiments were designed and conducted using the Taguchi method which was a statistical experimental method. The weld bead width, penetration, area and aspect ratio were measured and analysed as the weld bead shape properties and the welding parameters were optimized to maximize the weld aspect ratio. Weld aspect ratio were greatly affected by the pulse width, pumping voltage and pulse frequency, and somewhat by the overlap distance, and little by the shielding gas type, flow rate and focal position. A confirmation experiment were conducted using the optimized welding parameters.

  • This paper presents an emergency brushless synchronous generator having rotating exciter status monitoring and protection functions. For monitoring the rotating exciter status, a wireless rotor status detector and a digital AVR(Automatic Voltage Regulator), which has a wireless communication capability, are proposed. The proposed rotor status detector detects temperatures of exciter armature and main field windings and input voltage and current of the main field. Therefore, it is possible to protect the generator from the over-temperature of windings and detect the exciter bridge diode fault. Furthermore, the proposed digital AVR has rotor status monitoring and protection function, and remote generator tuning, wireless group parallel operation function. So the operator can efficiently operate the generator using a smartphone from a remote area.

  • Agricultural hydraulic robot which was reported in Part Ⅰ had been developed . The robot satisfied performance to intend before development. For actual use, however, it have been necessary to reduce manipulator weigh and to simplify construction of hydraulic control valve. Then, working stress of manipulator link and pressure fluctuation of hydraulic circuit were measured. Step and frequency response tests were done subject to amplitude of reference voltage of 0.1 , 0.3 , 0.5 and 1.0v. and delivery pressure of 3.5 and 5.0MPa. Working stress were about 25% comparing with fatigue strength, Thus, mass of manipulator might be reduce to 30 %. In hydraulic control system, virtual natural frequency of 6.5Hz is produced from the combination of drain passage area shortage of servovalve. Further , because of passage area shortage , working pressure at both side of cylinder was acted on. This phenomenon prevent utilize effectively engine power. Then, control valve for new model was p oposed.

  • This paper presents application results of the augmented matrix eigen-sensitivity theories to TCSC siting problem for damping the inter-area low frequency oscillation in the large KEPCO system. First and second-order eigen-sensitivities of the inter-area low frequency oscillation in the large KEPCO system. First and second-order eigen-sensitivities of the inter-area mode are computed fro changes in susceptance of the transmission lines. The lines having high sensitivity are chosen as the initial candidates for installing TCSC. Then for each of the chosen candidates, Bodeplot of the transfer function with line susceptance as the input and the bus voltage at one side of the line as the output is computed. Using the Bode plots, the lines having any zeros near the inter-area mode are screened out since design of TCSC controller is very difficult in such a case. The $H_{\infty}$ TCSC controller installed at any finally chosen candidate is found to be effective in damping the inter-area oscillation, and the proposed TCSC siting algorithm is proved to be valid. Design of $H_{\infty}$ controller is described in Part IIof this paper.

  • Electrostatically-actuated Micro device have been used widely in a variety of integrated sensors and actuators. Electrostatically-actuated micro devices with a gap of several micrometers or less between the electrodes have shown failure problems by electrostatic adhesion. To improve this adhesion phenomenon, micro devices of varying lengths and widths in electrodes were fabricated, and an alumina coating was then deposited using atomic layer deposition technology. The effects of improving adhesion phenomenon were compared by measuring the pull-in voltage before and after the coating process. The pull-in voltage increased with increasing length of the upper electrode after the coating. An increase in the electrode area results in an increase in the pull-in voltage after coating. The alumina coating method applied to improve the adhesion on an electrostatically-actuated micro device was observed as an effective method.

  • This paper proposes a high efficiency three-phase cascaded phase shifted H-bridge multi-level inverter without DC/DC converters for grid-tied multi string photovoltaic (PV) applications. The cascaded H-bridge topology is suitable for PV applications since each PV module can act as a separate DC source for each cascaded H-bridge module. The proposed phase shifted H-bridge multi-level topology offers advantages such as operation at a lower switching frequency and a lower current ripple when compared to conventional two level topologies. It is also shown that low ripple sinusoidal current waveforms are generated with a unity power factor. The control algorithm permits the independent control of each DC link voltage with a maximum power point for each string of PV modules. The use of the controller area network (CAN) communication protocol for H-bridge multi-level inverters, along with localized PWM generation and PV voltage regulation are implemented. It is also shown that the expansion and modularization capabilities of the H-bridge modules are improved since the individual inverter modules operate more independently. The proposed topology is implemented for a three phase 240kW multi-level PV power conditioning system (PCS) which has 40kW H-bridge modules. The experimental results show that the proposed topology has good performance.

  • A mock circulatory loop system has been developed to construct a simulator for trainees in cardiopulmonary bypass systems or to simulate a test environment for cardiac-assist devices. This paper proposes a computerized mock circulatory loop system whose node is modularized by using a servo control flow regulator to simulate dynamic change of the hemodynamic status. To observe the effect of time-varying resistance, one with hemodynamic properties, the proposed system replicates the planned cross-sectional areas of the outlet of a ventricular assist device in terms of voltage input of a servo valve. The experiment is performed (1) for steady-input commands of selected area sizes and (2) for dynamic commands such as monotonous increase and decrease, and oscillatory functions of the voltage input, and a computer program based on LabVIEW (National Instruments, Austin, USA) processes every measured data and control command to the servo valve. The results show that the pressure and flow at the target points with respect to time-varying resistance match intuitive estimation: the pressure at the outlet and the pressure drop between both sides of the valve increased and the flow at the outlet decreased for increased resistance.
