Dynamic Behavioral Prediction of Escherichia coli Using a Visual Programming Environment (비쥬얼 프로그래밍 환경을 이용한 Escherichia coli의 동적 거동 예측)

  • When there is a lack of detailed kinetic information, dFBA(dynamic flux balance analysis) has correctly predicted cellular behavior under given environmental conditions with FBA and different ial equations. However, until now, dFBA has centered on substrate concentration, cell growth, and gene on/off, but a detailed hierarchical structure of a regulatory network has not been taken into account. For this reason, the dFBA has limited the represen tation of interactions between specific regulatory proteins and genes and the whole transcriptional regulation mechanism with environmental change. Moreover, to calculate optimal metabolic flux distribution which maximizes the growth flux and predict the b ehavior of cell system, linear programming package(LINDO) and spreadsheet package(EXCEL) have been used simultaneously. thses two software package have limited in the visual representation of simulation results and it can be difficult for a user to look at the effects of changing inputs to the models. Here, we descirbes the construction of hierarchical regulatory network with defined symbolsand the development of an integrated system that can predict the total control mechanism of regulatory elements (opero ns, genes, effectors, etc.), substrate concentration, growth rate, and optimal flux distribution with time. All programming procedures were accoplished in a visual programming environment (LabVIEW).

  • Data structure and algorithm are primary courses for computer programming education. However, now those are not interesting courses for students because the programming methodologies that used these courses are not the proper methodologies for the visual and windows programming. Therefore, we developed the SCSA (Software Component for Search Algorithm) which is a software component for effective search algorithm education, and is based on visual programming in this thesis.

  • This paper presents an attempt to develop a visual programming language-based 3D virtual reality authoring tool intended to compose virtual interior space. The rapid development of digital technology and the wide spread of the Intenet have expanded the different uses of virtual reality in a number of applications ranging from interior design to building maintenance. In particular, the construction of cyber spaces based on existing interior spaces is becoming increasingly important. Current research, however, remains at the level of converting 3D models into virtual reality models, despite practitioners' needs for structural space models. Moreover, commercial tools to build virtual reality space have the disadvantage of targeting people who have professional knowledge of computer programs and computer graphics. Accordingly, the 3D virtual reality authoring tool developed in this research - called the VESL system - enables virtual and structural space to be easily composed using intuitive and interactive visual interfaces, which are based on visual programming techniques. The VESL system also provides an XML based semantic description of interior space, to be used to describe interior space information. We anticipate that the virtual reality spaces composed by this system will be of considerable use in the fields of architecture and interior design. Further research issues identified at the end of the research include developing a converter/filter for transforming Internet virtual reality standard language, or VRML, and evaluating the application of the system for practical use.

  • Industrial robots have been usually controlled using text-based programming languages provided by each manufacturer with its button-based TP(Teaching Pendent) terminal. Unfortunately, when we consider that people who manipulate TPs in manufacturing sites are mostly unskilled with no background knowledge about computer programming, these text-based programming languages using button-based interaction on manufacturing sites are too difficult for them to learn and use. In order to overcome the weaknesses of the text-based programming language, we propose a visual programming language that can be easily used on gesture-enabled devices. Especially, in our visual programming environment, each command is represented as a block and robots are controlled by stacking those blocks using drag-and-drop gestures, which is easily learnable even by beginners. In this paper, we utilize a widely-spread device, Tablet PC as the gesture-enabled TP. Considering that Tablet PC has limited display space in contrast to PC environments, we designed different kinds of sets of command blocks and conducted user tests. Based on the experiment results, we propose an effective set of command blocks for Tablet PC environment.

Visual simulator for supporting to learn efficiently on dynamic programming (동적 프로그래밍에 대한 효율적인 학습을 지원하는 시각화 시뮬레이터)

  • It's known by recent surveys that many students have difficulty in understanding the concepts of programming algorithms, and don't feel interested in learning them. Dynamic programming, one of the most important and widely-used algorithms in computer science, is especially feared by students and unlike other algorithms, it also requires understanding of the process of problem solving and storage space design as well as basic principles of the algorithm. And so it has not been properly covered in classes. In this paper, we developed a visual simulator to solve the above problems in learning dynamic programming. This learning simulator is designed for students to run the algorithms themselves and learn how it works by visualizing each step of dynamic programming and corresponding states of storage space.

  • Teaching programming skills is not only required for computer related departments but through the area of engineering and natural science. Moreover recently teaching programming skill is emphasized in software education for primary schools and secondary schools. Since programming ability is considered an essencial element of national competitiveness, we need programming learning system which alleviates the difficulty. We implemented Blockly webc Programming Convergent Learning System which is based on the graphic tools called Blockly by Google. Inside system problem sets for the programming beginners are embedded in the system. These problem sets are gone under more than 20 years verification and these problem sets may be used to help beginning programmers escape novice coder in short time. Blockly webc Programming Convergent Learning System together with already developed Simple Visual Language2 Programming Learning System is expected to play an important role as a programming learning system for the beginners.

  • The students who learn the computer languages think it very difficult to program using the text-based programming languages and also to learn the object-oriented programming. Therefore, we introduce the object-oriented visual programming into the programming education. And, to solve the this problem in the programming education, in this paper, we introduce the UML to support the object-oriented modeling and to teach the students using the LabVIEW OOP that supports the object-oriented visual programming. And, we propose to apply it on the embedded programming education. Also, we analyze the educational effect of the proposed education methodology of programming based on the student survey.

  • In this paper, we developed a Windows 95 version off-line programming system which can simulate a track vehicle model in 30 graphics space. The track vehicle was adopted as an objective model. The interface between users and the off-line program system in the Windows 95's graphic user interface environment was also studied. The developing language is Microsoft Visual C++. Graphic libraries, OpenGL, by Silicon Graphics, Inc were utilized for 3D Graphics.
