  • As various 3D contents have been developed recently, number of users who use 3D glasses in the cinema or their house has increased. However, since a stereoscopic image causes visual fatigue, developers also advise children and pregnant against watching it for hours. In this paper, we proposed measurement of level of visual fatigue degree by analyzing histogram obtained from a disparity-map. We used binocular disparity approach which is a fundamental factor occurred by a stereoscopic image. This research can be used as an user discomfort improvement method by referring to a stereoscopic image producing and compensation. To obtain a disparity-map, our proposed method used a census algorithm which is suitable for real-time processing.

  • A depth adjustment method for visual fatigue reduction for depth-image-based rendering (DIBR) system is proposed. One important aspect of the method is that no calibration parameters are needed for adjustment. By analyzing 3D image warping, the perceived depth is expressed as a function of three adjustable parameters: virtual view number, scale factor and depth value of zero parallax setting (ZPS) plane. Adjusting these three parameters according to the proposed parameter modification algorithm when performing 3D image warping can effectively change the perceived depth of stereo pairs generated in DIBR system. As the depth adjustment is performed in simple 3D image warping equations, the proposed method is facilitative for hardware implementation. Experimental results show that the proposed depth adjustment method provides an improvement in visual comfort of stereo pairs as well as generating comfortable stereoscopic images with different perceived depths that people desire.

  • Younger generations use a variety of visual media, such as smartphones, televisions, and computers. Due to the development of visual media, the health of eye was weakening. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of eye health and dynamic visual activity on eye muscle stimulation with eye movement and therapeutic massage in university students. 38 university students in their 20s were divided into a control group(18) and an experimental group(20). The experimental group performed eye movement and therapeutic massage every 30 minutes for 5 times a week for 4 weeks. Ocular fatigue, maximal blinking interval, ocular surface temperature, and dynamic visual activity were measured before and after 4 weeks. Ocular fatigue was decreased significantly after 4 weeks (p<.05), and maximal blinking interval was increased significantly after 4 weeks (p<.05). Ocular surface temperature was not showed a significant difference after 4 weeks (p>.05), and dynamic visual activity was increased significantly after 4 weeks (p<.05). Therefore, eye movement and therapeutic massage are recommended for the improvement of eye function and eye health. It is expected to be used as research data to restore and prevent for eye health.

  • Fatigue strength database system was developed for Windows 95 on personal computer. The relational database management system Visual Foxpro 5.0 was used. The database system developed contains 3,147 S-N curves and 311 $\varepsilon$-N ones for 437 material symbols and has the ability to search data by material symbol that each specification marks differently. Visual Basic 5.0 was used for graphic presentation and statistical treatment of the data searched.

  • The super multi-view (SMV) display and the high-density directional (HDD) display were proposed as a natural 3D display that is free from the visual fatigue caused by the accommodation-vergence conflict and provides smooth motion parallax. The multi-projection system, the flat-panel system, and the time-multiplexing system are used to construct the HDD displays. The recent progress of the HDD 3D display is reviewed.

  • Objective: This study describes the change of operator performance in drastic change of illumination level, and proposes an alternative method to cope with it. Background: The control standard of illumination for nuclear power plants(NPPs) is based on the set of limit criteria for maintaining a specific illumination level. However, there is a possibility to cause human errors according to the psychological and physiological influences to operators in the situation of drastic change of illumination such as SBO(Station Black Out), so a basic study is necessary to review the current approach. Method: We assessed the visual fatigue, subjective work load and task performance according to the three illumination situations(Normal Illumination, Emergency Illumination, and Drastic Change of Illumination). Result: Research finding shows that there are not significant differences in task performance between normal illumination (1,000lx level) and emergency illumination (100lx level), only if beyond the dark adaptation limit. However, subjective work load on mental demand and visual fatigue show a potential challenge to visual performance in drastic change of illumination. Conclusion/Application: Several trials can complement this challenge in NPPs by applying 3-way communication, enhancing readability of procedures, and managing the visual factors affecting the operators' performance through a Visual Environment Management Program including visual health aspects, etc.

  • Objective: This study aimed to produce a description of features of chronic fatigue patients visiting an Oriental Hospital. Methods: 121 patients (75 male and 46 female) who visited a fatigue-care center were enrolled in this study, and the main complaints besides fatigue feeling, symptom differentiation, and health-related factors were analyzed. Results: On a visual analogue scale (VAS), average severity of fatigue was 7.0 (male 6.77 and female 7.4; 0 indicates no fatigue vs. 10 indicates intolerable fatigue), and the main complaints included headache (male and female) and dyspepsia (female). Patients generally slept about 7 hrs and caught a cold 2.4 times per year (same in both male and female). 54.6 % of patients used functional supplements, and red ginseng, vitamin and herbal medicine were chosen in that order. Conclusions: Chronic fatigue is a main target of traditional Korean medicine (TKM). This study can be helpful to design TKM-based treatment for chronic fatigue-related symptoms.

  • Purpose. This study examined the characteristics of fatigue and the relationship between fatigue and its related factors in Korean patients on hemodialysis. Methods. A cross-sectional correlational study was conducted with 104 patients on hemodialysis in Seoul, Korea. Finding. Of a total of 104 subjects, eighty-one ($77.9\%$) complained of fatigue. Fatigue severity was measured by the self-rating Visual Analogue Scale-Fatigue (VAS-F) with a mean score of 36.5 (SD = 17.49, range 2 - 81). The mean duration of fatigue was 3.8 hours (SD = 5.3, range 0 - 24). Depression was most significantly correlated with fatigue (beta = .43, p<.00), with interdialytic weight gain (beta = .25, p<.05) being the second most significant correlate. Conclusion. This study shows that nursing interventions for patients who experience fatigue while on hemodialysis should be focused on both psychological problems, such as depression, as well as on physiological problems, such as interdialytic weight gain.
