A study on the Performance of Hybrid Normal Mapping Techniques for Real-time Rendering

  • Achieving realistic visual quality while maintaining optimal real-time rendering performance is a major challenge in evolving computer graphics and interactive 3D applications. Normal mapping, as a core technology in 3D, has matured through continuous optimization and iteration. Hybrid normal mapping as a new mapping model has also made significant progress and has been applied in the 3D asset production pipeline. This study comprehensively explores the hybrid normal techniques, analyzing Linear Blending, Overlay Blending, Whiteout Blending, UDN Blending, and Reoriented Normal Mapping, and focuses on how the various hybrid normal techniques can be used to achieve rendering performance and visual fidelity. performance and visual fidelity. Under the consideration of computational efficiency, visual coherence, and adaptability in different 3D production scenes, we design comparative experiments to explore the optimal solutions of the hybrid normal techniques by analyzing and researching the code, the performance of different hybrid normal mapping in the engine, and analyzing and comparing the data. The purpose of the research and summary of the hybrid normal technology is to find out the most suitable choice for the mainstream workflow based on the objective reality. Provide an understanding of the hybrid normal mapping technique, so that practitioners can choose how to apply different hybrid normal techniques to the corresponding projects.   • 사용자 중심의 메뉴 기반 인터페이스를 설계하기 위해서는 인간의 지식 구조를 이해하는 것이 중요하다. 인간의 지식 구조를 이해하게 되면, 인터페이스를 통해서 전달된 자극들이 만들어낸 개념들이 어떠한 관계를 가지고 정신 모형(mental model)을 형성하고 있는지 알 수 있다. 인간의 지식 구조는 MDS (Multidimensional Scaling)과 Trajectory Mapping을 이용하여 Visual Concept Map 으로 나타낼 수 있고, 이것을 바탕으로 인간의 지식구조를 시각적으로 이해할 수 있다. MDS 는 인간의 머릿속에 자리잡고 있는 개념들의 상대적 위치를 알려주고, Trajectory Mapping 은 개념들 간의 연결 상태를 보여준다. 즉, Trajectory Mapping 을 통하여 개념들 간악 인지적 정보를 알 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 MDS 와 Trajectory Mapping 을 이용하여 핸드폰 메뉴로부터 전달 받은 시각적 자극들에 악해 형성된 개념들에 대한 인간의 지식 구조를 Visual Concept Map 으로 시각화하였다. 그리고 이렇게 시각화된 지식 구조를 바탕으로 메뉴 구조를 개발하였다. 본 연구 결과, MDS 와 Trajectory Mapping 을 이용한 인간의 지식 구조의 시각화는 사용자 중심의 메뉴 기반 인터페이스를 설계하는데 유용하게 쓰일 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

  • Information visualization, generally speaking, consists of three steps: transform from raw data to data model, visual mapping from data model to visual structure, and transform from visual structure to information model. In this paper, we propose a visual mapping method from spatiotemporal table information, which is related to events in large-scale building, to 3D map metaphor. The process has also three steps as follows. First, after analyzing the table attributes, we carefully define a context to fully represent the table-information. Second, we choose meaningful attribute sets from the context. Third, each meaningful attribute set is mapped to one well defined visual structure. Our method has several advantages. First, users can intuitively achieve non-spatial information through the 3D map which is a powerful spatial metaphor. Second, this system shows various visual mapping method applicable to other data models in the form of table, especially GIS. After describing the whole concept of our visual mapping, we will show the results of implementation for several requests.

  • Recent advances in new media for sensory experiences keep expanding visual expression methods in installation art such as projection mapping and virtual reality. Artists can create and develop visual expression techniques based on such new media. Projection mapping is a new medium that continues to add various possibilities to visual expression in media art. Under the projection mapping environment, artists can recompose the object or space with the digital content by projecting video onto three-dimensional surfaces in the space. This paper focuses on the process where visual expression with the projection mapping technology leads to viewers' sensory experience. To this end, "reproducibility," "dissemination," "virtuality," and "interactivity" of media were analyzed to describe the meaning and *definition of visual expression. Artworks are considered as an example to study visual expression techniques such as "repetition and overlap," "simulacrum and metaphor," and "displacement and conversion." I applied the analysis and created Domino, a projection mapping artwork, which helps the research on visual expression techniques that can lead to sensory experience the extensibility of visual expression.

  • It is shown that there exists a nonlinear mapping which transforms image features and their changes to the desired camera motion without measuring of the relative distance between the camera and the object. This nonlinear mapping can eliminate several difficulties occurring in computing the inverse of the feature Jacobian as in the usual feature-based visual feedback control methods. Instead of analytically deriving the closed form of this mapping, a Fuzzy Membership Function-based Neural Network (FMFNN) incorporating a Fuzzy-Neural Interpolating Network is used to approximate the nonlinear mapping. Several FMFNN's are trained to be capable of tracking a moving object in the whole workspace along the line of sight. For an effective implementation of the proposed FMF network, an image feature selection process is investigated. Finally, several numerical examples are presented to show the validity of the proposed visual servoing method.

  • Indoor localization is one of the basic elements of Location-Based Service, such as indoor navigation, location-based precision marketing, spatial recognition of robotics, augmented reality, and mixed reality. We propose a Voxel Labeling-based visual positioning system using object simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM). Our method is a method of determining a location through single image 3D cuboid object detection and object SLAM for indoor navigation, then mapping to create an indoor map, addressing it with voxels, and matching with a defined space. First, high-quality cuboids are created from sampling 2D bounding boxes and vanishing points for single image object detection. And after jointly optimizing the poses of cameras, objects, and points, it is a Visual Positioning System (VPS) through matching with the pose information of the object in the voxel database. Our method provided the spatial information needed to the user with improved location accuracy and direction estimation.

Understanding the Mapping Principle of One Syllable One Character as a Predictor of Word Reading Development in Chinese

  • Speech-print mapping awareness is defined as the awareness of the principles underpinning how speech sound is matched to print symbols. Chinese is unique in that it follows the one syllable one character mapping principle. The present study examined the predictive power of speech-print mapping awareness in young children's word reading. Seventy-four Hong Kong children from the first and second kindergarten years were tested with phonological awareness, visual skills, syllable-level mapping awareness, and Chinese reading ability at Time 1. Chinese reading abilities were tested again 1 year later. It was found that syllable-level mapping awareness predicted Chinese word reading abilities 12 months later. Further, it seemed that the link of syllable mapping to Chinese reading is particularly significant for beginning readers. The findings suggest that understanding the language-specific speech-print mapping principle is critical for reading acquisition at the early stage of reading development.

  • Contemporary 21st century, the rapid development of technology has achieved due to the emergence of various digital devices, a variety of media to the diversification of the limits of visual representation is reduced. Therefore, the combination of technology and art, visual arts, giving limits of getting it free to the public will feel fresh new visual impact. Such a new approach to light of a combination of technology and art, a variety of fine art and motion picture of the visual arts, such as has been recognized as a new genre. Of the resolution of the projector by utilizing the current reality and unreality beyond the boundaries of the building or structure in the city, as a schematic design of the screen projected structure and mapping of the art technology in an attempt to integrate recent has been studied in various ways. The projected structure design and the mapping of the art technology in an attempt to incorporate recent research has been diverse. In this study, as a new technology of a projection mapping to study the technique of looking for the definition of mapping practices to maximize the effectiveness of Visual Perception 3D animation was applied to a case study. A combination of 3D animation and project mapping in the future the fusion of art and technology to meet the zeitgeist with new possibilities of visual art to create synergies that is expected.

A Study on the Types of Camera Working of Projection Mapping Contents (프로젝션 매핑 콘텐츠의 카메라 움직임 유형에 관한 연구)

  • The projection mapping technique is used in various ways in almost every genre of performance arts at the moment. Thus, artist from various areas are participated in contents productions using it. The diversification of projection mapping contents gave producers a clue to try fresher visual effects and it was connected to the change of point of time using the camera working which was never used in old projection mapping contents productions. It is analyzed that the use of camera workings in the projection mapping image maximizes the visual Tactility and helps audiences concentrate on the contents. This study performed the theoretical research on the 'camera working' which is a new visual expression of the projection mapping and analyzed cases of projection mapping works applying them. It is to reconstruct the camera working which has been applied only by images of movies and suggest a guideline to create the optimized visual effect.

Omni-directional Visual-LiDAR SLAM for Multi-Camera System (다중 카메라 시스템을 위한 전방위 Visual-LiDAR SLAM)

  • Due to the limited field of view of the pinhole camera, there is a lack of stability and accuracy in camera pose estimation applications such as visual SLAM. Nowadays, multiple-camera setups and large field of cameras are used to solve such issues. However, a multiple-camera system increases the computation complexity of the algorithm. Therefore, in multiple camera-assisted visual simultaneous localization and mapping (vSLAM) the multi-view tracking algorithm is proposed that can be used to balance the budget of the features in tracking and local mapping. The proposed algorithm is based on PanoSLAM architecture with a panoramic camera model. To avoid the scale issue 3D LiDAR is fused with omnidirectional camera setup. The depth is directly estimated from 3D LiDAR and the remaining features are triangulated from pose information. To validate the method, we collected a dataset from the outdoor environment and performed extensive experiments. The accuracy was measured by the absolute trajectory error which shows comparable robustness in various environments.
