  • In this study, we propose a technological system designed to provide machine vision-based automatic inspection and autonomous operation services for an entire process related to product inspection in wire harness manufacturing. The smart factory paradigm is a valuable and necessary goal, small companies may encounter steep barriers to entry. Therefore, the best approach is to develop towards this approach gradually in stages starting with the relatively simple improvement to manufacturing processes, such as replacing manual quality assurance stages with machine vision-based inspection. In this study, we consider design issues of a system based on the proposed technology and describe an experimental implementation. In addition, we evaluated the implementation of the proposed technology. The test results show that the adoption of the proposed machine vision-based automatic inspection and operation service system for multi-wire harness production may be considered justified, and the effectiveness of the proposed technology was verified.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of visual information on movement time and each angular velocity of trunk and lower extremity joints while healthy adults are in sitting and squat motion. Methods: Participants consisted of 20 healthy male and female adults; movement time and each angular velocity of trunk, pelvis, hip, knee and ankle of sitting and squat motion according to common vision, visual task and visual block were analyzed using a three dimensional motion analysis system. Results: Each angular velocity of the trunk, pelvis, hip, knee and ankle in phase 2 of the sitting showed significant difference according to the types of visual information (p<0.05). Movement time and each angular velocity of pelvis and hip in phase 2 of squat motion showed significant difference according to the types of visual information (p<0.05). According to the common vision, each angular velocity of knee and ankle in phase 1 was significantly fast in sitting (p<0.05). According to the common vision, each angular velocity of trunk, pelvis, hip, knee, and ankle in phase 2 was significantly fast in sitting (p<0.05). Conclusion: Visual information affects the angular velocity of the motion in a simple action such as sitting, and that in more complicated squat motion affects both the angular velocity and the movement time. In addition, according to the common vision, visual task and visual block, as angular velocities of all joints were faster in sitting than squat motion.

  • This paper proposes an optimum vision system analysis and a reliable high-precision positioning system that converges a GNSS and a vision system in order to resolve position error and outdoor shaded areas two disadvantages of GNSS. For location determination of the object, it should receive signal from at least four GNSS. However, in urban areas, exact location determination is difficult due to factors like high buildings, obstacles, and reflected waves. In order to deal with the above problem, a vision system was employed. First, determine an exact position value of a target object in urban areas whose environment is poor for a GNSS. Then, identify such target object by a vision system and its position error is corrected using such target object. A vehicle can identify such target object using a vision system while moving, make location data values, and revise location calculations, thereby resulting in reliable high precision location determination.

  • The standard definition of computational vision is a set of inverse problems of recovering surfaces from images. Thus the common characteristics of the most early vision problems are ill-posed. The main idea for solving ill-posed problems is to restrict the class of admissible solutions by introducing suitable a priori knowledge. Standard regurarization methods lead to satisfactory solutions of early vision problems but cannot deal effectively and directly with a few general problems, such as discontinuity and fusion of information from multiple modules. In this paper, we discuss limitations of standard regularization theory and present new stochastic method. We will outline a rigorous approach to overcome part of ill-posedness of image restoration, edge detection, and stereo vision problems, based on Bayes estimation and MRF(Markov random field) model, that effectively deals with the problems. This result makes one hope that this framework could be useful in the solution of other vision problems.

  • According to the Statistics Korea in 2017, the 10 leading causes of death contain a cardiac disorder disease, self-injury. In terms of these diseases, urgent assistance is highly required when people do not move for certain period of time. We propose an unusual event detection algorithm to identify abnormal user behaviors using dust, vision and activity sensors in their houses. Vision sensors can detect personalized activity behaviors within the CCTV range in the house in their lives. The pattern algorithm using the dust sensors classifies user movements or dust-generated daily behaviors in indoor areas. The accelerometer sensor in the smartphone is suitable to identify activity behaviors of the mobile users. We evaluated the proposed pattern algorithms and the fusion method in the scenarios.

  • 3D Vision system has many applications recently but popularization have many problems that need to be overcome. Volumetric display may process a amount of visual data and design the high efficient vision system for display. In case of stereo system for volumetric display, disparity vectors from the stereoscopic sequences and residual images with the reference images has been transmitted, and the reconstructed stereoscopic sequences have been displayed at the receiver. So central issue for the design of efficient volumetric vision system lies in selecting an appropriate stereo matching and robust vision system. In this paper, we propose high efficient vision system with the reduction of rectification error which can perform the 3D data extraction efficiently with low computational complexity. In experimental results with proposed vision system, the proposed method can perform the 3D data extraction efficiently with reducing rectification error and low computational complexity.

  • In this paper, a VLIW(Very Long Instruction Word) vision coprocessor which can efficiently accelerate computer vision algorithm for automotive is designed. The VLIW coprocessor executes four instructions per clock cycle via 8-stage pipelined structure and has 36 integer and floating-point instructions to accelerate computer vision algorithm for pedestrian detection. The processor has about 300-MHz operating frequency and about 210,900 gates under 45nm CMOS technology and its estimated performance is 1.2 GOPS(Giga Operations Per Second). The vision system composed of vision primitive engine and eight VLIW coprocessors can execute pedestrian detection at 25~29 frames per second(FPS). Because the VLIW coprocessor has high detection rate and loosely coupled interface with host processor, it can be efficiently applicable to a wide range of vision applications.

  • Computer Vision Syndrome(CVS) is a temporary condition resulting from focusing the eyes on a computer display for protracted, uninterrupted periods of time. To prevent CVS, you have to blink your eyes frequently, also have to keep distances from monitor. In this paper, real-time notification system for preventing CVS by checking user's distance between eyes and monitor and user's frequency of nictation in real time through monitor webcam is described.

  • Shape-from-shading (SFS) or stereo vision algorithms can be utilized to measure the shape of an object with imaging techniques for effective sensing in non-contact measurements. SFS algorithms could reconstruct the 3D information from a 2D image data, offering relatively comprehensive information. Meanwhile, a stereo vision algorithm needs several feature points or lines to extract 3D information from two 2D images. However, to measure the size of an object with a freeform surface, the two algorithms need some additional information, such as boundary conditions and grids, respectively. In this study, a stereo vision scheme using the depth information obtained by shape-from-shading as patterns was proposed to measure the size of an object with a freeform surface. The feasibility of the scheme was proved with an experiment where the images of an object were acquired by a CCD camera at two positions, then processed by SFS, and finally by stereo matching. The experimental results revealed that the proposed scheme could recognize the size and shape of freeform surface fairly well.
