  • With the development of media technology, virtual reality (VR) technology is widely used in education, medical care, aerospace, entertainment and other fields. Among them, application in teaching courseware is a relatively new topic. Compared with traditional coursewares, virtual games visualized and extruded abstract teaching contents. Thus it strengthened teaching effects and expanded dimensions of learning. We hypothesized that virtual coursewares could increase users'sense of presence and enhance their focus. In this study, virtual courseswares were compared with traditional coursewares. At the same time, its feasibility and advantages of application were analyzed through literature researching, practical researching and statistical analysis from questionnaires. Furthermore, we designed a teaching system for VR coursewares and explored its performance in multidimensional and contextual teaching situations. It was found that Virtual coursewares have changed the boring traditional teaching methods. The teaching content was displayed in the form of three-dimensional images, videos and sounds through VR equipment, which effectively improved teaching efficiency. In addition, the feasibility of virtual courseware was demonstrated through factor analysis in questionnaires. • In post-COVID-19 pandemic era, students' learning effects and experience may sharply decrease when teaching is transferred from offline to online. Several tools suitable for online teaching have been developed to guarantee and promote students' learning effects. However, they cannot fully consider teacher-student interaction in online teaching. To figure out this issue, this paper proposes integrated media platform-based virtual office hours implementation for online teaching. Specifically, an integrated media platform (IMP) is first constructed. Then, virtual office hours (VOH) is implemented based on the IMP, aiming at increasing student-teacher interactions. For evaluating the effectiveness of this scheme, 140 undergraduate students using IMP are divided into one control group and three experimental groups that respectively contain text, voice and video modes. The experiment results indicate that applying VOH in the IMP can improve students' online presence and test scores. Furthermore, students' participating modes during VOH implementation can largely affect their degree of presence, which can be well classified by using principal component analysis. The implication of this work is that IMP-based VOH is an effective and sustainable tool to be continuously implemented even when the COVID-19 pandemic period ends.

  • Use of teaching pendant is the most widespread and economical way to teach desired motion to robots. It is also very primitive, time consuming and ineffective way of teaching which has not changed since the early days of robot. In order to reduce the teaching effor, a new efficient form of teaching is needed. Also, the recent robotics research trend into service robots such as home robot, nurse robot and medical robot calls for a new teaching method which is both easy and inexpensive. In this paper, the design and operation principle of a low cost force/moment sensor is presented. The proposed sensor architecture is so simple and inexpensive that it opens the prospect for a new paradigm of robot teaching which is easy and efficinet. Other prospective areas of application are tele-manipulation of robots wher it can be used in master arm, and virtual environment where it can be used as an user input device.

  • Background Virtual education is an evolving method for teaching medical learners. During the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, remote learning has provided a replacement for conferences, lectures, and meetings, but has not been described as a method for conducting a cadaver dissection. We aim to demonstrate how learners perceive a virtual cadaver dissection as an alternative to live dissection. Methods A virtual cadaver dissection was performed to demonstrate several upper extremity nerve procedures. These procedures were livestreamed as part of an educational event with multimedia and interactive audience questions. Participants were queried both during and after the session regarding their perceptions of this teaching modality. Results Attendance of a virtual dissection held for three plastic surgery training institutions began at 100 and finished with 70 participants. Intrasession response rates from the audience varied between 68 and 75%, of which 75% strongly agreed that they were satisfied with the virtual environment. The audience strongly agreed or agreed that the addition of multimedia captions (88%), magnified video loupe views (82%), and split-screen multicast view (64%) was beneficial. Postsession response rate was 27%, and generally reflected a positive perspective about the content of the session. Conclusions Virtual cadaver dissection is an effective modality for teaching surgical procedures and can be enhanced through technologies such as video loupes and multiple camera perspectives. The audience viewed the virtual cadaver dissection as a beneficial adjunct to surgical education. This format may also make in-person cadaver courses more effective by improving visualization and allowing for anatomic references to be displayed synchronously.
