  • This study examines different types of navigation aids when a navigator performs target search tasks in Virtual Environments. The factors manipulated in this study include target information (None/Landmark). navigational difficulty (Easy/Difficult). and map types (None/2D Map/3D Map). Navigation performance was measured by using task completion time and the number of target locations that was remembered by the navigator. In addition, user satisfaction on the navigation aids was also measured by using a 7-point Likert's scale. The results showed that the user satisfaction on the landmark was high when the 3D Map was provided. The task completion time shortened when navigational difficulty was set at "easy." The number of remembered target locations was large when there was no landmark. It was also large with an easy navigation task. or a map (20 or 3D) provided. Guidelines for selecting navigation aids were proposed based on the results.

  • This paper proposes a new Dynamic Voltage Scaling(DVS) algorithm to achieve low-power scheduling of aperiodic hard real-time tasks. Aperiodic tasks schedulingcannot be applied to the conventional DVS algorithm and result in consuming energy more than periodic tasks because they have no period, non predictable worst case execution time, and release time. In this paper, we defined Virtual Periodic Task Set(VTS) which has constant period and worst case execution time, and released aperiodic tasks are assigned to this VTS. The period and worst case execution time of the virtual task can be obtained by calculating task utilization rate of both periodic and aperiodic tasks. The proposed DVS algorithm scales the frequency of both periodic and aperiodic tasks in VTS. Simulation results show that the energy consumption of the proposed algorithm is reduced by 11% over the conventional DVS algorithm for only periodic task.

  • A deformable non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) based volume is programed for the force reflecting exoskeleton haptic device. In this work, a direct free form deformation (DFFD) technique is applied for the realistic manipulation. In order to implement the real-time deformation, a nodal mapping technique is used to connect points on the virtual object with the NURBS volume. This geometric modeling technique is ideally incorporated with the force reflecting haptic device as a virtual interface. The results in this work introduce details for the complete set-up for the realistic virtual clay modeling task with force feedback. The force reflecting exoskeleton haptic manipulator, coupled with a supporting PUMA 560 manipulator and the virtual clay model are integrated with the graphics display, and results show that the force feedback from the realistic physically based virtual environment can greately enhance the sense of immersion.

  • In this paper we suggest a context-driven configuration model of virtual businesses to form a business network model consisting of role-based, interaction-centered business partners. The model makes use of the subcontext concept which explicitly represents actors and interactions in virtual business (VB) context. We separate actors who have capacities on tasks in a specific kind of role and actor subcontext which models requirements in specific interaction subcontext. Three kinds of actors are defined in virtual service chains, service user, service provider, and external service supporter. Interaction subcontext models a service exchange process between two actor subcontexts with consideration of context dependencies like task and quality dependencies. Each subcontext may be modeled in the form of a situation network which consists of a finite set of situation nodes and transitions. A specific situation is given in a corresponding context network of actors and interactions. It is illustrated with a simple example.

  • This paper develops a master manipulator which can reflect a force from a slave manipulator effectively. It many have a big workspace, can represent a human operators manipulation perfectly, and is composed of a position control part, an orientation control part and an end effector control part. This paper also develops a graphic simulator using the Visual C++ and OpenGL in the Window operating system. It can be used to make a virtual slave manipulator and set a virtual working environment, and provide a visual information from a desired view point. A virtual teleoperation system is developed by connecting the developed master manipulator to the graphic simulator using an interfacing hardware bilaterally. It is used for performing a virtual object exploration experiment. In the experiment, two virtual objects are used. They are virtual wall and virtual hexahedron which have 0.7N/mm and 2.2 N/mm stiffness respectively. The experiments are performed under six different working conditions. The experiment results will show the effectiveness of the reflected force from the slave manipulator for improving the efficiency and stability of the teleoperation task.

  • Scheduling user-submitted cloud tasks to the appropriate virtual machine (VM) in cloud computing is critical for cloud providers. However, as the demand for cloud resources from user tasks continues to grow, current evolutionary algorithms (EAs) cannot satisfy the optimal solution of large-scale cloud task scheduling problems. In this paper, we first construct a large- scale multi-objective cloud task problem considering the time and cost functions. Second, a multi-objective optimization algorithm based on multi-factor optimization (MFO) is proposed to solve the established problem. This algorithm solves by decomposing the large-scale optimization problem into multiple optimization subproblems. This reduces the computational burden of the algorithm. Later, the introduction of the MFO strategy provides the algorithm with a parallel evolutionary paradigm for multiple subpopulations of implicit knowledge transfer. Finally, simulation experiments and comparisons are performed on a large-scale task scheduling test set on the CloudSim platform. Experimental results show that our algorithm can obtain the best scheduling solution while maintaining good results of the objective function compared with other optimization algorithms.

  • Offloading tasks from mobile devices to available cloud servers were improved since the introduction of the cloudlet. With the implementation of dynamic offloading algorithms, mobile devices can choose the appropriate server for the set of tasks. However, current task distribution approaches do not consider the number of VM, which can be a critical factor in the decision making. This paper proposes a dynamic task distribution on clustered data centers. A proportional VM migration approach is also proposed, where it migrates virtual machines to the cloud servers proportionally according to their allocated CPU, in order to prevent overloading of resources in servers. Moreover, we included the resource capacity of each data center in terms of the maximum CPU in order to improve the migration approach in cloud servers. Simulation results show that the proposed mechanism for task distribution greatly improves the overall performance of the system.

  • A new methodology for representing the interaction between machines and the interlock signals required in FMCs has been developed. Object-Oriented Philosophies (OOPs) lend themselves to the development of such a scheme. A methodology developed here regards the tasks to be performed by the cell or any of its constituent machines for being primal. Sensory signals indicating the changes of state pf machines are used to trigger or initiate tasks. A task may be simple and require a relatively short time to execute, or may be complex and lengthy. This methodology may be depicated by a set of diagrams called Task Initiation Diagram (TID) and their accompanying rules.

  • This study was conducted for raising the considering the dynamical context of mobile phone use environment in the mobile-phone research. For this I identified the characteristic of the mobile phone use. The first characteristic is that the mobile phone is the context sensitive device. Also, it reflects the user's life pattern because it is the very personal device. I defined the context of mobile phone use with the basis on this identification of those characteristics. I referenced the definition, 'situational context', defining the mobile phone use context. Also, I set up the research scope within the user task that is influential from the situational context, I named this kind of task as the 'contextual task'. I developed the Contextual Task Model in this study. I named the model as the 'ESR Model'. The reason that I developed this contextual task model is that this model can help novice designers and designers unfamiliar with an application domain understand the user behavior and user centered design. And also this model can be effective to communicate each other, I identified the user's contextual tasks three kinds of model. First, the Extend Model includes user tasks that related to extending from user physical working space to the virtual level. Second model is Synchronize Model, which includes issues that lesson the blocking when use several functions at a time or sequentially. Third model is Replace Model, which is come from the characteristic of user life pattern to use the mobile phone. Finally, I proposed an application of this model, CIQ. Through the process to make CIQ I proved the effectiveness of this ESR Model.

  • Virtual colonoscopy is a non-invasive computerized procedure to detect polyps by examining the colon from a CT data set. To fly through the inside of colons. the extraction of a suitable flight-path is necessary to Provide the viewpoint and view direction of a virtual camera. However. manual path extraction by Picking Points is a very time-consuming and difficult task due 1,c, the long and complex shape of colon. Also, existing automatic methods are computationally complex. and tend to generate an improper and/or discontinuous path for complicated regions. In this paper, we propose a fast flight-path generation algorithm using the distance and order maps. The order map Provides all Possible directions of a path. The distance map assigns the Euclidean distance value from each inside voxel to the nearest background voxel. By jointly using these two maps. we can obtain a proper centerline regardless of thickness and curvature of an object. Also, we Propose a simple smoothing technique that guarantees not to collide with the surface of an object. The phantom and real colon data are used for experiments. Experimental results show that for a set of human colon data, the proposed algorithm can provide a smoothened and connected flight-path within a minute on an 800MHz PC. And it is proved that the obtained flight-Path provides successive volume-rendered images satisfactory for virtual navigation.
