  • Model house play an important role in the sale of apartments. However, model house can create social and environmental problems. Virtual reality's (VR) use for the creation of model house has been studied as a possible counter measure to these problems. Existing models don't satisfy consumers' queries. A virtual model house can give the experience of seeing a real home through simulation. Also, a virtual model house can allow a home buyer to change the furniture on display or the color of the walls to reflect the consumer's taste in the construction. The internal present condition system using absorption style virtual reality and open style virtual reality are the indispensable tools that are going to take the place of the current model home. A virtual model house is more profitable than a physical model house because of reduced costs and time savings. In addition, a virtual model house can offer new kinds of information that a physical model home can not. This study's purpose is to discuss the desired direction of the virtual model house in this crucial and dynamic period of development.

  • Existing model houses have played an important role in allow the customers to choose apartment. As the information technology has been advanced (e.g. a high-speed internet available in unit), customers' personality and preference to the design of apartment and the purchasing pattern have been changed. Construction firms have introduced VR(Virtual Reality) model house (e.g. Quick Time Virtual Reality) to meet the customers' expectation and need. The reality-based QTVR model house does not provide enough quality to satisfy the customers' expectation. To complement the shortcoming of the QTVR model house, this study presents a web-based cyber model house developed by using Turntool and Javascript. The cyber model house allows to communicate between supplier and customer over the internet.

  • In Korea, the construction company has provided houses through apartment sales system. Residents have obtained a variety of information about their future house by visiting a sample house called "the model house" before they purchase home. Advanced technology such as web-based VOD or Virtual Model in recent years has gradually replaced those built environment. In 2009, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs announced the restraint to the construction of sample houses. Instead, they highly recommended a Virtual Model House as an alternative solution. This study aimed to propose how to design the user-oriented virtual model house through the experiment and survey research. The 3D virtual model house of 85m$^2$ apartment was built and presented by two types (Type A: Bird's Eye View, Type B: Walk through View) on the web page. The subjects evaluated presence, spatial perception and cognition, and usability of each type after exploring them. The results are as follows. (1) The subjects' evaluation of presence showed Type B has more negative effects than Type A such as feeling dizzy or tired even if their values were not so high. (2) The subjects perceived and cognized both types of virtual model house more realistic for the expression of volume of space, the size of opening, and the arrangement of furniture than that of wall finishes and materials. (3) The usability of Type A was significantly higher than that of Type B.

A Study on the characteristics of model house designs applying a virtual reality technique (가상현실 모델하우스 활용 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Through the computer simulation of virtual reality techniques, prospective clients can experience the surroundings such as the view, traffic and convenience facilities in advance. Also, consumers can reflect their own tastes in the real apartment Interior construction through their own work in relation to furniture arrangement, color choices, etc. inside the apartments. The virtual model house not only replaces the function of the existing model house but it can also provide some services that could not be provided easily due to some restrictions under real conditions. More, it can provide a precise view of the outside appearance and surrounding environment as well as inside the house, as virtual structures on the computer. Consumers can search for the information through the Web in advance and consumer-satisfaction type of apartments can be built. For this purpose, smooth communications among the designers, server managers, and consumers should be achieved as a prerequisite to the delivery of the necessary information.

Study of the Development of Interactive Virtual Model House at Apartment (아파트 인터렉티브 가상모형(IVMH) 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This study developed Interactive Virtual Model House (IVMH) to provide the cyber model house, homepage of apartment complex, and smart home, which have been indicated as an alternative for improving the residential environments, as a total system. For this cause, the concept of IVMH was established and the apartment and 3-types ways used in the existing system were studied. Based on the organized data, the elements of IVMH by technology and environment were examined, and the model of IVMH was completed. IVMH is a model of an integrated system that supports offering information in apartments using digital technology, supporting conveniences, communication and reflection of opinion. In addition, it will be provided with applicable contents from now on. For those reasons, it is expected to be effective in helping improve habitability.

A Comparative Study by Age in Evaluating Web-based 3D Model House

  • This study aims to explore age-related differences with the assessment tools in the web-based 3D virtual model house and to propose the 3D model house criteria which everyone can use easily. The participants came from three age groups, ranging from their 20s to their over 40. Presence, Usability and Space perception and cognition in the experiment for navigating and evaluating the web-based 3D model house were measured and compared through one-way ANOVA and two-way ANOVA. The results and conclusions are as follows. (1) The younger the participants were, the more positive they evaluated the experiment on Presence. However, 20s needed higher presence than other two groups. (2) 30s and over 40 groups evaluated that the 3D virtual model house was more efficient than an actual model house on Usability. When the participants were younger, the values of 'expressivity' factor were higher. (3) The younger the participants were, the more positive they perceived the virtual environment (VE) on Space perception and cognition scale. There were no significant differences in the selection of dwelling size and the floor plan type. There were no significant differences of interaction effects between age and online gaming experience on Presence and Usability. The results of the current study demonstrate that there are differences among age groups and older groups have difficulty navigating and assessing in a VE. Although older groups take longer to adapt in the VE, they regard the 3D model house as an effective tool for purchase of house.

  • The purpose of this study is to summarize the changes in virtual reality utilization in model houses through the time-by-year example of model houses and to study the use and future development of virtual reality technologies in model houses. As a result of compiling and analyzing characteristics of virtual reality utilization flow in model houses of apartments, it is as follows. First, the market for apartment model houses using virtual reality was gradually expanded for the purpose of brand promotion by private construction companies. Second, technologies that utilize virtual reality in apartment sales are changing from virtual space construction to virtual content implementation. Third, it is changing from the existing method of face-to-face and method of accessing actual promotional media to the form of publicizing apartments using virtual reality. Through this research, it is estimated that it will be used as an information medium and a form of experience using physical environment and virtual reality in a physical model house for consumers looking for model houses. This study presents the future direction of the model house, and develops it as a post-sale maintenance / management system through ICT technology (3D scanning, 3D modeling, virtual content) Further research on the technology is expected to be needed.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide a basis for creating virtual community based on Cyber house. Cyber house is a digital architecture which enables multifarious lives based on the self, neighbor, new information. This study presents a process of Cyber house model and suggests scenarios of Cyber house application. Cyber house model has been developed by using SCOL but there were a few problems to design Cyber house. Since Java3D has flexibility to create Cyber house without limitation, even though it is very difficult to develope, it may well suited to make Cyber house. .Therefore Cyber house has to be developed as an instrument which provides various function rather than simple 3 dimensional digital house. Cyber house has a lot of potential and contribute to the Quality of lives.

  • Before showing the real house, generally a broker shows the blue print of the house to a customer who looks for houes to reside. However, it is difficult to for the customer to realize the house in detail by the blue print. To solve this problem, meet develop model house system using the virtual reality technology. The develop system shows the blue print of the house in 3D on the android device and make it possible for the user to move in the house projected virtually by using controllers.

  • Since the most of existing virtual model house used non-immersive type virtual reality technology, it was made to control using direct input type device such as keyboard and mouse. But in this paper realized not only direct data entry method but also indirect data entry method using eyetracking technology through universal webcam for virtual model house based upon modeling. In this paper showed the position of pointer controlled according to the relative movement of pupils or the part of function related to the equipment entry called by comparing the value of gray after extracting the area of pupil in the user' video data received from webcam. Such a method provided the convenience of navigation and interface to the user.
