We propose a new type of semi-global matching (SGM) in order to solve a streaking problem arising from conventional SGM. Conventional SGM imposes a penalty to a pixel when the disparity of the pixel differs from that of the previous pixel along a scan path, and thus, disparity changes are not easily allowed, causing the streaking effect. The road surface is an appropriate target for such an effect, because the colors of the surfaces are very similar, and the image pixels corresponding to the surfaces show disparities that change very smoothly along the viewing direction. In contrast to conventional SGM, the new type of SGM imposes penalties depending on the disparity gradients, and thus, the streaking effect is controlled. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed SGM method.
The study documents the analysis on characters and symbols shown in the pavement markings in the perspective of mathematics educators. The purpose of this study is to propose a pavement marking method that can enhance readability from the driver's eye position. To this end, this study analyzed the figure of the pavement markings that can be actually recognized by the projective geometry perspective. As a result, it proposed alternatives to the current pavement markings by introducing the concept of the compression ratio. Results of the study are as follows. First, the rule was established to obtain the compression ratio. If the observation of two viewing angles are x and y, then the compression ratio S is ${\sin}y/{\cos}\(\frac{x-y}{2}\)$. Second, we presented two alternatives to the pavement marking method for the displayed information. One is a method for improving the pavement markings in terms of the compression ratio, the other is a method by varying vertical length of the pavement markings while holding its width constant. Based on the outcomes from this study, a mathematical analysis can be further studied for the perception of speed according to the types of pavement marking line.
Changdeokgung Rear Garden is an important place to show the essence of the garden culture of the Joseon Dynasty. In the garden landscape experience, the restoration of the road completes the system of connecting the main spaces. Therefore, the restoration of the road requires accurate understanding of its creation, extinction, and maintenance. The purpose of this study was to detail the changes in the path that occurred in the Changdeokgung Palace Rear Garden from the late Joseon Dynasty to the modern and contemporary period by analyzing literature and drawing materials. For a time-series analysis, "Donggwoldo" and "Donggwoldohyeong" produced in the Joseon Dynasty, along with "Changdeokgung Plan Drawing" produced in modern and contemporary times, and aerial photographs were used. Drawings and photographs of different coordinate systems were transformed into one coordinate system in the geographic information system ArcGIS to compare changes in the movements of different periods. The results of the study are as follows. First, a total of 37 sections have been used since Japanese colonial era, of which 13 have been maintained, 14 have disappeared, and 10 have been newly established. Among the extinction sections, the road north of Neungheojeong Pavilion is considered to be an urgent place to connect the space to the garden and restore it to enjoy the scenery. In the new section, it seems necessary to establish a new alternative road or shorten the section for the connecting section between Daebodan and Okryucheon. Second, it was revealed that the biggest and most frequent changes to the road system in the garden were Japanese colonial era and renovations in the 1970s. It is worth noting the changes in the road since the 1970s, rather than Japanese colonial era, where it was difficult to manage the gardens independently. The access road to Okryucheon remained in its original shape until the 1990s, but it was renovated to its current shape due to misperception of the original shape. A project is needed to find out the cause of the change in this period and restore the damaged original shape. The biggest achievement of this study is that it revealed the changes in the garden path of Changdeokgung Palace in modern and contemporary times. The biggest achievement of this study is that it revealed the changes in the road of Changdeokgung Palace Rear Gardens in modern and contemporary times. However, there is a limitation that it has not been able to clearly present the location and shape that should be restored because it has not found data on landscaping plans or maintenance. In order to restore the road using the data revealed in this study, it seems necessary to consider realistic problems such as current space utilization, viewing system, disaster prevention and maintenance.
In this paper, East Asian thoughts in Choi In-ho's novels have been studied based on Emmanuel Levinas' philosophical theories. He is a philosopher who dealt with the matter of subject formed through the encounter the others. The author of this paper quoted his ethics of responsibility, viewing that East-Asian thoughts put stress on the relationship with the others. The conclusions are like these; first, in the novel, Sang Do, there is a true relationship between the subject and the others thinking in the side of the other. Human relationship is like Sangsunyaksoo, which means when subject goes low, there appears a place the other can stay in. Second, in the novel Yoorim the essence of Neo-Confucianism shows up through Kyung thought, in which subject serves on the other in respect. That's like what Levinas said, "responsibility to others". Third, in the novel The Road without Road there appears Jinsokppuli, the central value of Korean Buddhists' Zen thoughts, meaning that you are not differentiated from me. In the times when the nation had been lost, Kyung Ho, who answered the call of people was a man who found what Levinas said, "the other who stays in me". As a conclusion the thoughts such as Sangsunyaksoo, Kyung, and Muae which show up in Choi In-ho's novels are connected with Levinas' ethics of responsibility and well shown as good examples of East Asian ethics.
This study aims to suggest a new algorithm for detecting two-wheelers on road that have various shapes according to the viewing angle for vision based intelligent vehicles. This article describes a new approach to two-wheelers detection algorithm riding on people based on modified Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) using correlation coefficient (CC). The CC between two local area variables, in which one is the person riding a bike and other is its background, can represent correlation relation. First, we extract edge vectors using HOG which includes gradient information and differential magnitude as cell based. And then, the value, which is calculated by the CC between the area of each cell and one of two-wheelers, can be extracted as the weighting factor in process for normalizing the modified HOG cell. This paper applied the Adaboost algorithm to make a strong classification from weak classification. In this experiment, we can get the result that the detection rate of the proposed method is higher than that of the traditional method.

The purpose of this study is to develop a Bridge Disaster Management System for bridge safety control using Geographic Information Systems(GIS). The constructed database includes several graphic layers such as basemap, road, bridge location, etc. and has related text attributes for 32 bridges and its facilities in Chinju City. Using the language of Visual Basic 5.0, personal computer based Bridge Disaster Management System which has several functions for bridge safety analysis was developed. The developed GIS based Bridge Disaster Management System has the functions of fast and efficient data searching, file management, searching and management of bridge characteristics, bridge related map viewing, searching and management of traffic survey, bridge inspection and repair work results, and evaluating the bridge safety grades, etc..
Roadside native vegetation provides important habitat for plants and animals, and provides visual amenity and beauty for drivers and rural areas. In particular, native wildflowers create and maintain attractive landscaping and scenic vistas while help protect and restore the natural environment. However, it is lacking in government policies and guidelines about using native wildflowers for roadside vegetation and alien invasive plants are a major threat to our environment. The purpose of this study is to review the regulations and programs for roadside vegetation, especially native wildflowers in USA in order to learn lessons about developing wildflower policies in Korea. A summary of results follows: (1) the goals of roadside vegetation have been shifted from beautification for pleasant driving experience to sustainable and economical maintenance. (2) Various funds and laws by federal and local government are essential for native wildflower planting and roadside enhancement. (3) Ongoing projects on seed collection and seed banking of native plants are conducted by wildflower research centers to conserve and propagate endangered plants. (4) Recognizing that wildflower viewing holds tremendous potential, increasing local governments try to grow wildflower tourism for economic benefits. In conclusion, we should establish a long-range plan and regulations on roadside wildflowers planting in order to create safe and sustainable transportation corridors in Korea. In addition, more research on wildflower habitat and propagation should be warranted and landscape architects should play a definitive role in providing pleasant driving experiences and promoting wildflower tourism.

The Royal Tomb of the Joseon Dynasty, which was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2009, is a cultural resource recognized for its 'outstanding universal value' around the world. The royal tomb of Joseon has been managed with an emphasis on the preservation of cultural assets since it was designated as a historical site in the 1970s, but it has received many visitors as a valuable historical and cultural resource and haven that connects the past and the present in today's bustling city. In order to investigate and analyze the current status of pavements in the royal palace in terms of quality and quantity, and to suggest the direction of improvement, this study conducted a complete survey of 53 royal palace viewing roads in 18 regions, and the results are as follows. First of all, problems are found in both the early Masato pavement of the creation, which was introduced with an emphasis on the preservation and protection of cultural assets, and the hardening pavement(KAP), which began to be used in the 1990s for the convenience of maintenance. In other words, the Masato pavement used to create a more environmentally friendly atmosphere of the Joseon royal tombs is showing a high percentage of use, but it lacks support for walking activities, such as the slippage of the pavement and water pooling during the rainy season or during the ice season. Also, hardening pavement introduced for convenience of maintenance, such as the movement of repair vehicles, is not functioning properly as it is damaged by physical deformation after construction. In addition, in awe zones such as parking lots, although the first image of the Joseon royal tombs is determined, the formation of the functional landscape centered on the carriageway does not harmonize with the traditional landscape, and, because of its lack of walking and environment-friendly features, there is a need for improvement, such as the experimental introduction of relevant pavement materials developed afterwards and continuous monitoring.

The technique of birdeye image generation of terrain through the use of satellite digital images and digital maps are very important elements and have applications in planning establishment as well as the actual design of several construction work in complex fields. This paper studies stereo perspective image generation as a possibility through 3-dimensional analysis combined with digital elevation data and remotely sensed images. For this, first of all, ortho-images generated by very accurate GCP and DEM from contour file makes 3-dimensional terrain analysis possible and allows stereo-viewing at the highway construction planning sites. So, we developed the technical methods for the 3-dimensional approach on the planning sites of highways by use of perspective orthoimages. From this research diverse terrain analysis is possible through stereo perspective image generation, and can leads to various application in road construction through gain study results from access to realtime virtual spatial on the objects area in korea.

This Paper proposes a vehicle detection system and a license plate recognition system from CCTV images installed on public roads. Since the environment of this system acquires the image in the general road environment, the stable condition applied to the existing vehicle entry / exit system is not given, and the input image is distorted and the resolution is irregular. At the same time, the viewing angle of the input image is more wide, so that the computation load is high and the recognition accuracy of the plate is likely to be lowered. In this paper, we propose an improved method to detect and recognize a license plate without a separate input control devices. The vehicle and license plate were detected based on the HOG feature descriptor, and the characters inside the license plate were recognized using the k-NN algorithm. Experimental environment was set up for the roads more than 45m away from the CCTV, Experiments were carried out on an entry vehicle capable of visually identifying license plate and Experimental results show good results of the proposed method.
