In this paper, we proposed an reconstruction algorithm of transmitted frames from displayed image on video terminal. For image quality assessment of the video streaming in the wireless network, we need information of the image that is transmitted to the end-user's device. Generally, subjective methods are widely used to evaluate the image quality by human beings because it is difficult to extract the transmitted image from the end-user's device. This paper presents an image reconstruction algerian based on the displayed image in video terminal for the extraction of the transmitted image. In the proposed method, we acquired the displayed image on video terminal using the camera. Camera-acquired images exhibit geometric and color distortions caused by characteristics of cameras and display devices. Therefore we correct the geometric distortion by exploiting the homography and color distortion by pre-computed look-up table. The experimental results show that the proposed measurement system yields promising estimation performance in terms of PSNR of $27{\sim}28dB$. We also carried out performance evaluation of the proposed method in terms of EPSNR and the quality of the estimated images by the proposed algerian was in fairly good range of MOS test scale.

With advances in video technology, many researchers are interested in video quality assessment to prove better performance of proposed algorithms. Since human visual system is too complex to be formulated exactly, many researches about video quality assessment are in progressing. No-reference video-quality assessment is suitable for various video streaming services, because of no requested additional data and network capacity to perform quality assessment. In this paper, we propose a novel no-reference video-quality assessment method with the estimation of dynamic range distortion. To measure the performance, we obtain mean opinion score (MOS) data by subject video quality test with the ITU-T P.910 Absolute Category Rating (ACR) method. And, we compare it with proposed algorithm using 363 video sequences. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has a higher correlation with obtained MOS.

Tremendous computation of full search or lossless motion estimation algorithms for video coding has led development of many fast motion estimation algorithms. We still need proper control of computation and prediction quality. In the paper, we suggest an algorithm that reduces computation effectively and controls computational amount and prediction quality, while keeping prediction quality as almost the same as that of the full search. The proposed algorithm uses multiple thresholds for partial block sum and times of counting unchanged minimum position for each step. It also calculates the partial block matching error, removes impossible candidates early, implements fast motion estimation by comparing times of keeping the position of minimum error for each step, and controls prediction quality and computation easily by adjusting the thresholds. The proposed algorithm can be combined with conventional fast motion estimation algorithms as well as by itself, further reduce computation while keeping the prediction quality as almost same as the algorithms, and prove it in the experimental results.
Multi-view video is obtained by capturing one three-dimensional scene with many cameras at different positions. Multi-view video coding requires high computational complexity. To reduce computational complexity and maintain the image quality, an effective early termination motion estimation method is proposed in this paper. The proposed method exploiting the characteristic of motion vector distribution uses a hierarchical search strategy. This strategy method consists of multi-grid square search pattern, modified diamond search pattern, small diamond search pattern and raster search pattern. Experiment results show that the speedup improvement of the proposed method over TZ search method and FS(Full Search) method JMVC (Joint Multiview Video Coding) can be up to 1.7~4.5 times and 90 times faster respectively while maintaining similar video quality and bit rates.
This paper describes the hardware architecture and implementation trade-offs of the Grand Alliance HDTV video encoder system. The implemented video encoder accepts video in 1125 line(30Hz) interlaced format, and produces a bit-stream compliant with the motion picture experts group version 2(MPEG-2) standards. The encoder processing includes large- area motion estimation and an advanced rate control mechanism. To keep the system complexity realizable, we adopt a fast hierarchical motion estimation method and developed its hardware architecture. Furthermore an adaptive perceptual quantization method is adopted to improve the perceptual quality. The developed system Is based on the 4-way parallel processing architecture and is implemented by using programmable IC, memory IC, and special-purpose processors such as DCT and motion estimation processors.

Three-dimensional video coding is one of the main challenges restricting the widespread applications of 3D video and free viewpoint video. In this paper, a novel fractal coding algorithm with motion-vector-field-based motion estimation for depth map sequence is proposed. We firstly add pre-search restriction to rule the improper domain blocks out of the matching search process so that the number of blocks involved in the search process can be restricted to a smaller size. Some improvements for motion estimation including initial search point prediction, threshold transition condition and early termination condition are made based on the feature of fractal coding. The motion-vector-field-based adaptive hexagon search algorithm on the basis of center-biased distribution characteristics of depth motion vector is proposed to accelerate the search. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can reach optimum levels of quality and save the coding time. The PSNR of synthesized view is increased by 0.56 dB with 36.97% bit rate decrease on average compared with H.264 Full Search. And the depth encoding time is saved by up to 66.47%. Moreover, the proposed fractal depth map sequence codec outperforms the recent alternative codecs by improving the H.264/AVC, especially in much bitrate saving and encoding time reduction.

In this paper, we propose a robust estimation of camera parameters from image sequence for high quality video composition. We first establish correspondence of feature points between consecutive image fields. After the establishment, we formulate a nonlinear least-square data fitting problem. When the image sequence contains moving objects, and/or when the correspondence establishment is not successful for some feature points, we get bad observations, outliers. They should be properly eliminated for a good estimation. Thus, we propose an iterative algorithm for rejecting the outliers and fitting the camera parameters alternatively. We show the validity of the proposed method using computer generated data sets and real image sequeces.

As the next-generation video coding standard, High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) has adopted advanced coding tools despite the increase in computational complexity. In this paper, we propose a selective bi-prediction method to reduce the encoding complexity of HEVC. The proposed method evaluates the statistical property of the sum of absolute differences in the motion estimation process and determines whether bi-prediction is performed. A performance comparison of the complexity reduction is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed method compared to the HEVC test model version 4.0. On average, 50% of the bi-prediction time can be reduced by the proposed method, while maintaining a negligible bit increment and a minimal loss of image quality.
Video Compression is the key technology for the transmission of multi-media data. Because the Motion Estimation is the most complex module in the video compression, fast motion estimation algorithm is essential for the real-time application. In this paper, we propose an enhanced binary motion estimation algorithm based on the wavelet transform. Proposed algorithm improve the quality of coded video.

This paper presents an adaptive rate control scheme for streaming-based content sharing service. This scheme delivers multimedia contents from a user device to another device or seamlessly redirects streaming service across heterogeneous user devices. In the proposed scheme, a streaming server adjusts video quality level according to the network and client status. Our scheme is different from other rate control schemes, because the video quality at the server is decided not only based on the available bandwidth, but also based on the device characteristics and bandwidth requirement at the access network. We also propose a bandwidth estimation method to achieve more equitable bandwidth allocations among streaming flows competing for the same narrow link with different Round Trip Times (RTTs). Through the simulation, we prove that our scheme improves the network stability and the quality of streaming service by appropriately adjusting the quality of the video stream. The simulation results also demonstrate the ability of the proposed scheme in ensuring RTT-fairness while remaining throughput efficient.
