Abstract A lot of research has been done on modeling video databases, but all of them can be considered as the static video data model from the viewpoint that all video data on those models are always presented according to the predefined sequences if there is no user interaction. For some video database applications which provides with up-to-date video information services such as news-on-demand, video-on-demand, digital library, internet shopping, etc., video editing is requested frequently, preferably in real time. To do this, the contents of the existing video data should be changed or new video data should be created, but on the traditional video data models such video editing works should be done manually. In order to save trouble in video editing work, this paper proposes the dynamic video object data model named DVID based on object oriented data model. DVID allows not only the static video object but also the dynamic video object whose contents are dynamically determined from video databases in real time even without user interaction.

  • In this paper, we present a method to reduce complexity of depth modeling modes (DMM) that are used in the current 3D-HEVC standardization. DMM adds four modes to the existing HEVC intra prediction modes for accurate object edge representation in the depth map. Especially, Mode 3 requires distortion calculation of numerous pre-defined wedgelets, inducing high complexity. The proposed method employs absolute differences of neighboring pixels in the sides of the reference block to find high intensity changing positions. Based on such positions, the number of wedgelet candidates is reduced to six and distortion calculation is skipped for irrelevant wedgelets. Experimental results show complexity reduction by 3.1% on average, while maintaining similar coding performance.

  • Human action recognition is used in areas such as surveillance, entertainment, and healthcare. This paper proposes a system to recognize both single and continuous human actions from monocular video sequences, based on 3D human modeling and cyclic hidden Markov models (CHMMs). First, for each frame in a monocular video sequence, the 3D coordinates of joints belonging to a human object, through actions of multiple cycles, are extracted using 3D human modeling techniques. The 3D coordinates are then converted into a set of geometrical relational features (GRFs) for dimensionality reduction and discrimination increase. For further dimensionality reduction, k-means clustering is applied to the GRFs to generate clustered feature vectors. These vectors are used to train CHMMs separately for different types of actions, based on the Baum-Welch re-estimation algorithm. For recognition of continuous actions that are concatenated from several distinct types of actions, a designed graphical model is used to systematically concatenate different separately trained CHMMs. The experimental results show the effective performance of our proposed system in both single and continuous action recognition problems.

  • Digital video camera can be a useful tool to capture images for use in colorimeter. However, the RGB signals generated by different digital video camera are not equal for the same scene. The digital video camera for use in colorimeter is characterized based on the CIE standard colorimetric observer. One method of deriving a colorimetric characterization matrix between camera RGB output signals and CIE XYZ tristimulus values is Polynomial modeling. In this paper, 3${\times}$3 linear matrix and 3${\times}$l1 polynomial matrix is used to investigate the characterization performance of the professional digital video camera. In experimental results, it is demonstrated that proposed 3${\times}$3 linear matrix has a reasonable degree of accuracy for use in colorimeter.

  • This research demonstrates a 3D virtual visualization of urban environment and video fusion for effective damage prevention and surveillance system using open standard. We present the visualization and interaction simulation method to increase the situational awareness and optimize the realization of environmental monitoring through the CCTV video and 3D virtual environment. New camera prototype was designed based on the camera frustum view model to project recorded video prospectively onto the virtual 3D environment. The demonstration was developed by the X3D, which is royalty-free open standard and run-time architecture, and it offers abilities to represent, control and share 3D spatial information via the internet browsers.

  • As the multimedia data increase a lot with the rapid development of the Internet, an efficient retrieval technique focusing on individual users is required based on the analyses of such data. However, user modeling services provided by recent web sites have the limitation of text-based page configurations and recommendation retrieval. In this paper, we construct the user preference model with a Bayesian network to apply the user modeling to video retrieval, and suggest a method which utilizes probability reasoning. To do this, context information is defined in a real office environment and the video scripts acquired from established cameras and annotated the context information manually are used. Personal information of the user, obtained from user input, is adopted for the evidence value of the constructed Bayesian Network, and user preference is inferred. The probability value, which is produced from the result of Bayesian Network reasoning, is used for retrieval, making the system return the retrieval result suitable for each user's preference. The usability test indicates that the satisfaction level of the selected results based on the proposed model is higher than general retrieval method.

  • Traditional database systems have been used models supported for the operations and relationships based on simple interval. video data models are required in order to provide supporting temporal paradigm, various object operations and temporal operations, efficient retrieval and browsing in video model. As video model is based on object-oriented paradigm, 1 present entire model structure for video data through the design of metadata which is used of logical schema of video, attribute and operation of object, and inheritance and annotation. by using temporal paradigm through the definition of time point and time interval in object-oriented based model, we tan use video information more efficiently by me variation.

  • In this paper, we propose a depth-based mesh modeling method to generate virtual environment. The proposed algorithm constructs mesh model from unorganized point cloud obtained from a multi-view camera. We separate the point cloud consisting objects from the background. Then, we apply triangulation to each object and background. Since the objects and the background are modeled independently, it is possible to construct effective virtual environment. The application of proposed modeling method is applicable to entertainment, such as movie and video game and effective virtual environment generation.

  • It is generally required to use modeling or animation tools for inserting dynamic objects into augmented reality, and this process demands high expertise and complexity. This paper proposes a video object based authoring method that enables augmentation with dynamic video objects without such process. Integrated grab-cut and grow-cut method strips initial area of video target off the existing video clips, and snap-cut method is then applied to track objects' boundaries over frames so as to augment real world with continuous motion frames. Experiment shows video cut-out and authoring results achieved by only a few menu selections and simple correcting sketch.
