Active mass damper system using time delay control algorithm for building structure with unknown dynamics

  • This paper numerically investigates the feasibility of an active mass damper (AMD) system using the time delay control (TDC) algorithm, which is one of the robust and adaptive control algorithms, for effectively suppressing the excessive vibration of a building structure under wind loading. Because of its several attractive features such as the simplicity and the excellent robustness to unknown system dynamics and disturbance, the TDC algorithm has the potential to be an effective control system for mitigating the vibration of civil engineering structures such as buildings and bridges. However, it has not been used for structural response reduction yet. In this study, therefore, the active control method combining an AMD system with the TDC algorithm is first proposed in order to reduce the wind-induced vibration of a building structure and its effectiveness is numerically examined. To this end, its stability analysis is first performed; and then, a series of numerical simulations are conducted. It is demonstrated that the proposed active structural control system can effectively reduce the acceleration response of the building structure.

${\pi}$형 거더를 가진 4경간 사장교의 동적거동에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the dynamic behavior of 4-Span Cable-Stayed Bridge with ${\pi}$-Type Girder)

  • 일반적으로, 2개의 I형 거더로 이루어진 ${\pi}$형거더는 공기역학적으로 불안하여 내풍설계에 있어 매우 불리 한 것으로 알려져 있다. 공기역학적 진동은 구조물의 강성이나 감쇠의 향상, 단면 형상의 연구 등에 의해 억제될 수 있으므로 본 연구에서는 ${\pi}$ 형단면을 가진 4경간 사장교에 대해 영각과 공기역학적 제진장치의 추가로 인한 단면의 변화에 따른 2차원 진동실험을 통하여 공기역학적 특성을 파악하도록 하였다. 등류와 난류에서의 실험결과 본 교량단면은 기본단면만으로도 내풍안정성을 충분히 갖추고 있기 때문에 페어링(Fairing) 및 베플(Baffle Plate) 등의 추가적인 공기역학적 제진장치가 필요하지 않을 것으로 판단된다. 이는 본 교량의 경우 주경간이 230m인 4경간으로 이루어져 있어 비슷한 단면을 가진 교량에 비하여 수직 및 비틀림 진동수가 크고 강성이 크기 때문에 설계풍속 내에서 공기역학적으로 안정한 것으로 보여진다.

Integrated cable vibration control system using Arduino

  • The number of cable-stayed bridges has been increasing worldwide, causing issues in maintaining the structural safety and integrity of bridges. The stay cable, one of the most critical members in cable-stayed bridges, is vulnerable to wind-induced vibrations owing to its inherent low damping capacity. Thus, vibration mitigation of stay cables has been an important issue both in academia and practice. While a semi-active control scheme shows effective vibration reduction compared to a passive control scheme, real-world applications are quite limited because it requires complicated equipment, including for data acquisition, and power supply. This study aims to develop an Arduino-based integrated cable vibration control system implementing a semi-active control algorithm. The integrated control system is built on the low-cost, low-power Arduino platform, embedding a semi-active control algorithm. A MEMS accelerometer is installed in the platform to conduct a state feedback for the semi-active control. The Linear Quadratic Gaussian control is applied to estimate a cable state and obtain a control gain, and the clipped optimal algorithm is implemented to control the damping device. This study selects the magnetorheological damper as a semi-active damping device, controlled by the proposed control system. The developed integrated system is applied to a laboratory size cable with a series of experimental studies for identifying the effect of the system on cable vibration reduction. The semi-active control embedded in the integrated system is compared with free and passive mode cases and is shown to reduce the vibration of stay-cables effectively.

  • Lately, there are actively proceeding in making a plan for subway construction, a high-speed railway construction and a expansion of road and also all kinds of large-scaled construction in Korea. Construction works were delayed from noises and vibrations occurred by usage of a large-sized construction equipments and driven and also blast or there were often stopped from them under construction. Therefore, this study was modeling operation of the cyclic loading and conforming effects from grasping displacement-changing method through a variable analysis.

붕괴하중을 받는 MR 댐퍼의 Bingham 모델을 이용한 저항성능 정해 (Exact Solution for Resistance Capacity utilizing Bingham Model of MR Dampers under Collapse Load)

  • This study deals with progressive collapse of a structure retrofitted with MR dampers. In order to assess their effect of mitigation which prevents progressive collapse, control force ratio is defined by friction force of MR dampers divided by external force. First, simple model of a structure with MR dampers is suggested. Using the model, exact solution with the control force ratio is obtained. When and where the system is stopped is predicted by the derived solution. Through the dissipated energy by MR dampers during collapse event, equivalent damping ratio is derived. Finally, comparison of exact and equivalent solutions is presented.

  • Recently in Korea, noise is one of the most important social issues because the living standard becomes more higher. Railway noise is also annoying one in our society, although railway has very positive role in our country. The major measures for mitigation of railway noise in Korea are rail welding and installation of noise barrier on the noisy area. But these measures have its own limit for the calm and comfortable living environment. In Europe the railway noise problem has been treated more systematically and aggressively, there has been emission noise standard for Trans-European rail network. In this paper, the trend of noise standard for railway vehicles will be reported and the check point for our country will be discussed.

  • The intense noise generated by military aircraft hans a significant impact on ground crews and their families on airbase. For minimizing the impact of the aircraft noise on the airport, appropriate indoor noise standard is required. This paper studied to establish the indoor noise standard on the military airport. The aircraft noise was measured and analyzed the frequence characteristics. the remodeling of office for the noise mitigation was enforced to verify the appropriate internal noise standard and to select the method of reinforcement. The noise standard was classified three categories according to the dwelling, office and usage of building with flight train facilities and banishment in military airfield.

  • 고속도로 주변에 공동주택이 건설되면서 도로소음에 의한 민원이 크게 증가하고 있다. 이러한 민원에 대한 소음대책 방법으로 방음벽이 주로 사용되고 있지만, 공동주택이 고층화 되어감에 따라 방음벽만으로는 대책이 어려운 경우가 자주 발생하고 있다. 이에 따라, 최근에는 방음터널, 저소음포장, 과속 단속카메라 등이 소음대책 방법으로 제안되고 있고, 본 연구에서는 과속 단속카메라의 소음저감효과에 대해 분석하고 평가하였다.

  • This study is about correlation between WECPNL and other units such as NNI, Leq and Ldn for aircraft noise that ere measured by automatic measuring system networks for grasping the effect of aircraft noise and investigated the aircraft noise level from 2004 to 2005 nearby 10 airports in Korea. It is very important to find the relationship among the various noise units, because exchange between the results of many other nation's study can improve the assessment and mitigation study of the aircraft noise. Correlation between WECPNL and M is better than one between WECPNL and Leq and between WECPNL and Ldn, because WECPNL and NNI are based on the PNL.

사장교계의 지지조건에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Support Conditions of Cable-stayed Bridge System)

  • 본 논문에서는 사장교 전체구조계의 교축방향에 대해서 주형을 지지하는 방법에 따른 활하중과 지진하중에 의한 주형, 주탑단면력 및 케이블력의 변화를 3차원 수치해석을 통해 검토하였다. 교축방향에 대한 적합한 경계조건의 도입은 주형의 지지점과 주탑의 기초부의 반력뿐만 아니라 주형의 휨모멘트에서 많은 변화를 유도할 수 있다. 수치해석의 예에서, 주형받침의 교축방향 탄성계수값이 약 $1{\times}10^4$tonf/m/bearing인 경계조건과 주형이 주탑부에 고정된 경계조건을 수치해석한 결과, 주탑의 거동은 거의 유사하나, 주탑부의 고정된 경계조건시 크게 발생하는 주형 모멘트를 감소할 수 있는 종방향 탄성계수값(약 $1\{times}10^4$tonf/m/bearing)을 적용하는 것이 최적 지지조건 값이 됨을 알 수 있다. 또한, 주형 지지조건의 종방향 탄성계수값이 $1{\times}10^4$tonf/m/bearing 부근에서 지진하중 재하의 경우 교축방향에 대한 진동 주기가 약 1.4% 더 길어지는 경향을 보인다.
