  • A diverse range of taxonomic confusions are brought forth since past taxonomic information including major errors following its initial provision of some uncertain information has repeatedly been applied to Korean Vespidae in its identification. Thus, this study, which made a final summarization of research on Vespidae, provided the list of Korean Vespidae determined except for Eumeninae, with their distributional data. A total of 30 species (including 3 subspecies) belonging to 5 genera of 2 subfamilies are listed: subfamily Vespinae (3 genera/ 18 species) and subfamily Polistinae (2 genera/ 12 species).

  • The solitary wasp genus Phimenes (Hymenoptera: Vespidae: Eumeninae) was reported to occur in Vietnam by , represented by one taxon, Phimenes flavopictus continentalis (Zimmermann), which was synonymized under nominotypical Phimenes flavopictus by . A note on gender of this genus is made in the text. One more species, Phimenes indosinensis is recorded in this study from Dak Lak in the southern and Son La in the northwestern parts of Vietnam for the first time. Detailed descriptions of the female and male of the latter are provided with figures. A key to the two species from Vietnam is also provided.

  • Ten Korean eumenine wasp species of the genus Stenodynerus, including one new species and six newly recorded species (Stenodynerus chinensis simillimus, S. coreanus, S. clypeopictus, S. funebris, S. frauenfeldi, S. Kalinowskii, S. pappi, S. pullus, S. tergitus sp. nov., S. tokyanus) from Korea were taxonomically reviewed. The male of S. pappi was collected for the first time. Additional characters to distinguish several congeners were also discussed.

  • Twelve Far Eastern species of the genus Ancistrocerus Wesmael are taxonomically reviewed. Among them, Ancistrocerus coreanus Kim and Yamane is new to science. A. japonicus, A. parietum and A. scoticus are newly recorded from Korea. In comparison to A. melanocerus, our opinion on the identity of A. densepilosellus is presented: it is more supportive that the Far Eastern population is the latter. Revised key, description, recognition characteristics and digital images for all the treated species are provided.

  • A taxonomic study of the genus Delta de Saussure, 1855 from Vietnam is presented. A total of four species are recorded: D. campaniforme campaniforme (Fabricius, 1775), D. conoideum (Gmelin, 1790), D. esuriens esuriens (Fabricius, 1787), and D. pyriforme pyriforme (Fabricius, 1775). Of these, D. campaniforme campaniforme was first recorded from Vietnam by de Saussure et al., 1904, under the name Eumenes esuriens and is now reconfirmed to occur in Vietnam after more than 100 years, and D. conoideum is newly recorded from Vietnam. A key to species based on morphological characters is given with illustrations, and distributional records in Vietnam are also provided.

  • The composition of the Martes flavigula diet has been extensively studied, but little is known about its insect component. This study characterized the insect diet and insect nest materials in the feces of M. flavigula. A total of 952 fecal samples were collected in Jirisan National Park from January 2009 to November 2011, and 1379 species or taxonomic groups were identified. M. flavigula fed on insects (8.7%) and bee wax (5.0%), which comprised 2.9% and 4.4% of the dry weight of M. flavigula feces, respectively. A total of 12 insect species belonging to 8 families in 3 orders were identified. The most frequently found insects were Hymenoptera (frequency of occurrence, FO, 89.1), including Vespa simillima simillima (FO, 37.3) and Vespula koreensis koreensis (FO, 20.0). The Vespidae constituted the majority of the insect diet in autumn when the diversity of marten's prey was strongly reduced, probably because the numbers of social insects were sufficient for M. flavigula. In addition, the data suggest that M. flavigula attacks the nests of social wasps in late autumn when males do not have a venomous sting and new queens are less aggressive than workers. Bee wax appeared in all seasons and the highest rate was from spring to early summer. However, the remains of honeybees were not found in feces; thus, M. flavigula presumably eats honey but not honeybees.

  • Korean species of the genus Euodynerus Dalla Torre were taxonomically reviewed. Four species were confirmed: E. trilobus, E. dantici violaceipennis, E. nipanicus nipanicus, and E. quadrifasciatus atripes. The specimens previously identified as E. dantici brachyotomus and E. notatus pubescence form North Korea were re-examined, and corrected to E. dantici violaceipennis and E. nipanicus nipanicus, respectively. Euodynerus quadrifasciatus atripes was re-described for future researchers. After careful reading previous descriptions, Euodynerus seuli Radoszkowski was tentatively supposed to be conspecific with E. nipanicus.

  • Vespa binghami Vecht, a poorly known vespine species, was discovered in Korea. This is the second treatment of this species on the Korean peninsula since the first report on Korean occurrence by Virula in 1925; however, the first one was based on practical Korean distributional information. Diagnostic description and digital images are provided.
