Curve squealing of inter-city railway vehicle is a noise with high acoustic pressure and rather narrow frequency spectra. This noise turns out to be very annoying for the people living in the neighborhood of locations and the passenger in railway vehicle where this phenomenon occurs. Squealing is caused by a self-exited stick-slip oscillation in the wheel-rail contact. Curve squeal noise of railway vehicles that passed by a factor of the speed limit, so to overcome in order to improve running performance is one of the largest technology. In the present paper, characteristic of squeal noise behavior at the Hanvit-200 tilting train test-site. Curve squealing of railway wheels/rail contact occurs in R400~ R800 curves with a frequency range of about 4~11 kHz. If the curve is less than the radius of wheel frail contact due to |left-right| noise level difference (dBA) shows a significant effect of squeal noise were more likely.

In the track geometry such as rails, sleepers, ballasts and fastener, track deterioration occurs by repetitive train weight and the high-speed railway takes a trend faster than normal. Track deterioration of over threshold value harms ride comfort and furthermore affect in trains safety seriously. An organic and systematic track maintenance system is very important because a trend of the track deterioration effects on track life-cycle and running safety. Also costs of the railway track permanent way and its maintenance are extremely large, forming a significant part of the total infrastructure expenditure. Therefor reasonable and efficient track maintenance has to be planed on a budget. It is required to carry out not only corrective maintenance but preventive maintenance for the track maintenance. In order to perform maintenance jobs in the boundary of the machines and resources given regarding the type and amount jobs, it is necessary to determine feasible or optimal scheduling considering the priority. In this study, the system organization and required functions for the development of track maintenance system supported track deterioration prediction and optimal scheduling are proposed.

Training neural networks is a complex task with great importance in the field of supervised learning. In the training process, a set of input-output patterns is repeated to an artificial neural network (ANN). From those patterns weights of all the interconnections between neurons are adjusted until the specified input yields the desired output. In this paper, a new hybrid algorithm is proposed for global optimization of connection weights in an ANN. Dynamic swarms are shown to converge rapidly during the initial stages of a global search, but around the global optimum, the search process becomes very slow. In contrast, the gradient descent method can achieve faster convergence speed around the global optimum, and at the same time, the convergence accuracy can be relatively high. Therefore, the proposed hybrid algorithm combines the dynamic particle swarm optimization (DPSO) algorithm with the backpropagation (BP) algorithm, also referred to as the DPSO-BP algorithm, to train the weights of an ANN. In this paper, we intend to show the superiority (time performance and quality of solution) of the proposed hybrid algorithm (DPSO-BP) over other more standard algorithms in neural network training. The algorithms are compared using two different datasets, and the results are simulated.

Recently, it becomes a very important issue to consider the mechanical systems such as high-speed vehicle and railway train moving on a flexible beam structure. Using general approach proposed in the first part of this paper, it tis possible to predict planar motion of constrained mechanical system and elastic structure with various kinds of foundation supporting condition. Combined differential-algebraic equations of motion derived from both multibody dynamics theory and Finite Element Method can be analyzed numerically using generalized coordinate partitioning algorithm. To verify the validity of this approach, results from simply supported elastic beam subjected to a moving load are compared with exact solution from a reference. Finally, parameter study is conducted for a moving vehicle model on a simply supported 3-span bridge.
The two-phase flow patterns for both non-loop and loop type oscillating capillary tube heat pipes (OCHPs) were presented in this study. The detailed flow patterns were recorded by a high-speed digital camera for each experimental condition to understand exactly the operation mechanism of the OCHP. The design and operation conditions of the OCHP such as turn number, working fluid, and heat flux were varied. The experimental results showed that the representative flow pattern in the evaporating section of the OCHP was the oscillation of liquid slugs and vapor plugs based on the generation and growth of bubbles by nucleate boiling. As the oscillation of liquid slugs and vapor plugs was very speedy, the flow pattern changed from the capillary slug flow to a pseudo slug flow near the annular flow. The flow of short vapor-liquid slug-train units was the flow pattern in the adiabatic section. In the condensing section, it was the oscillation of liquid slugs and vapor plugs and the circulation of working fluid. The oscillation flow in the loop type OCHP was more active than that in the non-loop type OCHP due to the circulation of working fluid in the OCHP. When the turn number of the OCHP was increased, the oscillation and circulation of working fluid was more active as well as forming the oscillation wave of long liquid slugs and vapor plugs in the OCHP. The oscillation flow of R-142b as the working fluid was more active than that of ethanol and the high efficiency of the heat transfer performance of R -142b was achieved.
Alignments of railways recently constructed in Korea have been straightened due to the advent of high-speed rail, which means increasing the numbers of tunnels and bridges. Overbreak during tunnel construction may be unavoidable, and is very influential on overall stability. Over-excavation in tunneling is also one of the most important factors in construction costs. Overbreak problems around crown areas have decreased with improvements of excavation methods, but overbreak problems around bottom areas have not decreased because those areas are not very influential on tunnel stability compared with crown areas. The filling costs of 10 cm thickness of overbreak at the bottom of a tunnel are covered under construction costs by Korea Railway Authority regulations, but filling costs for more than the covered thickness are considered losses of construction cost. The filling material for overbreak bottoms of tunnels should be concrete, but concrete and mixed granular materials with fractured rock are also used for some sites. Tunnels in which granular materials with fractured rock are used may have a discontinuous section under the concrete slab track. The discontinuous section influences the propagation of waves generated from train operation. When the bottom of a tunnel is filled with only concrete material, the bottom of the tunnel can be considered as a continuous section, in which the waves generated from a train may propagate without reflection waves. However, a discontinuous section filled with mixed granular materials may reflect waves, which can cause resonance of vibration. The filled materials and vibration propagation characteristics are studied in this research. Tunnel bottom filling materials that have ratios of granular material to concrete of 5.0 %, 11.5 %, and 18.0 % are investigated. Samples were made and tested to determine their material properties. Static numerical analyses were performed using the FEM program under train operation load; test results were found to satisfy the stability requirements. However, dynamic analysis results show that some mixed ratios may generate resonance vibration from train operation at certain speeds.
To be design the slope, the area distributed the mica schist which was metamorphosed by shale or mudstone must carefully consider the stability. Mica schist is another unstable rock for slope by schistosity, cleavage, axial plane of a fold etc. In general mica schist contains the swelling clay minerals such as smectite, vermiculite and montmorillonite. These minerals make the slope unstable. At OO tunnel construction area for the rail way of the Kyungbu high speed train, the slope of mica schist is very unstable by the distribution phenomena of the discontinuous plane such as joints which are 1-5 cm spacing and thrust and strike-slip fault. By the drilling core of this area, most RQD have 0-20%.

Recent advances in computer technology have brought more dependence on software to railway systems and changed to computer systems. Hence, the reliability and safety assurance of the vital software running on the embedded railway system is going to tend toward very critical task. Accordingly, various software test and validation activities are highly recommended in the international standards related railway software. In this paper, we presented an automated analysis tool and standard for software testing coverage in railway system, and presented its result of implementation. We developed the control flow analysis tool estimating test coverage as an important quantitative item for software safety verification in railway software. Also, we proposed judgement standards due to railway S/W Safety Integrity Level(SWSIL) based on analysis of standards in any other field for utilizing developed tool widely at real railway industrial sites. This tool has more advantage of effective measuring various test coverages than other countries, so we can expect railway S/W development and testing technology of real railway industrial sites in Korea.

This study aimed to analyze access mode choice behavior for KTX Passengers. To fulfill the aims of this study, Dong-Daegu Station was selected as a station for a case study. This study takes place in two stages. These are (i) descriptive statistical analysis of transportation status before and after introduction of the KTX, (ii) empirical model estimation for analyzing access mode choice behavior. This study makes use of the data from travel survey from Daegu metropolitan area. The main part of the survey was carried out in the KTX Dong-Daegu station. The data was collected from a sample of 1,800 individuals. The survey data includes the information on travel from Dong-Daegu station to Seoul. From descriptive statistical analysis of transportation status before and after introduction of the KTX, it is found that revealed demand of the KTX is lower than that expected. Moreover, it is found that the low demand of the KTX stems from high cost for the KTX itself and inconvenience( including travel time and cost) of access mode. In order to analyze mode choice behavior for accessing Dong-Daegu station, multinomial logit model structure is used. For the model specification, a variety of behavioral assumptions about the factors which affect the access mode choice, were considered. From the empirical model estimation, it si found that access travel time and access travel cost are significant in choosing access mode. Given the empirical evidence, we see that improvement of access transportation system for Dong-Daegu station is very important for enhancing the use of KTX.
Along with economic growth and industrial development, there is an increasing demand for various electronic components and device production of semiconductor, SMT component, and electrical battery products. However, these products may contain foreign substances coming from manufacturing process such as iron, aluminum, plastic and so on, which could lead to serious problems or malfunctioning of the product, and fire on the electric vehicle. To solve these problems, it is necessary to determine whether there are foreign materials inside the product, and may tests have been done by means of non-destructive testing methodology such as ultrasound ot X-ray. Nevertheless, there are technical challenges and limitation in acquiring X-ray images and determining the presence of foreign materials. In particular Small-sized or low-density foreign materials may not be visible even when X-ray equipment is used, and noise can also make it difficult to detect foreign objects. Moreover, in order to meet the manufacturing speed requirement, the x-ray acquisition time should be reduced, which can result in the very low signal- to-noise ratio(SNR) lowering the foreign material detection accuracy. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a five-step approach to overcome the limitations of low resolution, which make it challenging to detect foreign substances. Firstly, global contrast of X-ray images are increased through histogram stretching methodology. Second, to strengthen the high frequency signal and local contrast, we applied local contrast enhancement technique. Third, to improve the edge clearness, Unsharp masking is applied to enhance edges, making objects more visible. Forth, the super-resolution method of the Residual Dense Block (RDB) is used for noise reduction and image enhancement. Last, the Yolov5 algorithm is employed to train and detect foreign objects after learning. Using the proposed method in this study, experimental results show an improvement of more than 10% in performance metrics such as precision compared to low-density images.
