Analysis on the Performance and Temperature of the 3D Quad-core Processor according to Cache Organization (캐쉬 구성에 따른 3차원 쿼드코어 프로세서의 성능 및 온도 분석)

  • As the process technology scales down, multi-core processors cause serious problems such as increased interconnection delay, high power consumption and thermal problems. To solve the problems in 2D multi-core processors, researchers have focused on the 3D multi-core processor architecture. Compared to the 2D multi-core processor, the 3D multi-core processor decreases interconnection delay by reducing wire length significantly, since each core on different layers is connected using vertical through-silicon via(TSV). However, the power density in the 3D multi-core processor is increased dramatically compared to that in the 2D multi-core processor, because multiple cores are stacked vertically. Unfortunately, increased power density causes thermal problems, resulting in high cooling cost, negative impact on the reliability. Therefore, temperature should be considered together with performance in designing 3D multi-core processors. In this work, we analyze the temperature of the cache in quad-core processors varying cache organization. Then, we propose the low-temperature cache organization to overcome the thermal problems. Our evaluation shows that peak temperature of the instruction cache is lower than threshold. The peak temperature of the data cache is higher than threshold when the cache is composed of many ways. According to the results, our proposed cache organization not only efficiently reduces the peak temperature but also reduces the performance degradation for 3D quad-core processors.

  • Depth profiles of organic carbon (C), biogenic silica (Si), and inorganic phosphorus (P) in Maxwell bay sediments were determined to investigate paleoclimatic changes during Holocene. Organic C and biogenic Si contents generally show a down-core decrease trend, which appears to be mostly controlled by their vertical fluxes through productivity in the surface waters, but it is uncertain that inorganic P contents are directly influenced by productivity changes with time. Before 4000 yr B.p. marine productivity seemed to be almost zero because ice permanently covered the surface waters of the study area. As the climate started to become relatively warm at 4000 yr B.p., ice was sporadically melted in the surface waters and thereby marine productivity gradually increased until 1500 yr B.p. For the last 1500 year, marine productivity must be high enough to overcome the dilution by high terrigenous sedimentation, thus that period was the warmest during the last 6000 year.

  • A modified expression of mutual coupling ratio for a vertical coaxial loop system over a layered earth is derived by transforming the Bessel function of order 0 to that of order 1. This expression allows us to use a single $J_1$ filter instead of a combination of $J_0$ and $J_1$ filters, and produces a significant reduction of computer time and core storage. In this paper, the mutual coupling ratio for a three-layered earth is obtained by means of Anderson's adaptive filter (Anderson, 1979).

  • In this study, a new model for calculating the liquid film thickness and condensation heat transfer coefficient in a vertical condenser tube is proposed by considering the effects of gravity, liquid viscosity, and vapor flow in the core region of the flow. In order to introduce the radial velocity profile in the liquid film, the liquid film flow was regarded to be in Couette flow dragged by the interfacial velocity at the liquid-vapor interface. For the calculation of the interfacial velocity, an empirical power-law velocity profile had been introduced. The resulting liquid film thickness and heat transfer coefficient obtained from the proposed model were compared with the experimental data from other experimental study and the results obtained from the other condensation models. In conclusion, the proposed model physically explained the liquid film thinning effect by the vapor shear flow and predicted the condensation heat transfer coefficient from experiments reasonably well.

  • In this paper, a new air bearing stage with magnetic preload and a linear motor has been developed for the small precision machine systems. The new air bearing stage is unique in the sense that permanent magnets attached bottom of the iron core of table are used not only for preloading air bearings in vertical direction but also for generating thrust force by current of the coil at base. The characteristics of air bearings using porous pads were analyzed with numerical method, and the magnetic circuit model was derived for linear motor for calculating required preload force and thrust force. A prototype of single axis miniature stage with size of $120(W){\times}120(L){\times}50(H)\;mm^3$ was designed and fabricated and examined its performances, vertical stiffness, load capacity, thrust force and positioning resolution.

  • We once have announced that we developed a horizontal large-area alignment system with an alignment accuracy of < ${\pm}3{\mu}m$ and an alignment time of < 30 seconds, a core process module for RGB direct pattering by using a fine metal mask, which can process a Gen 4 ($730{\times}920mm^2$) substrate for high resolution OLED products. In this article, we presents a brand-new vertical alignment system for a even larger substrate of Gen 5 and beyond which can provide a better alignment accuracy and a higher throughput. The newly developed system exhibits an alignment accuracy of < ${\pm}2{\mu}m$ and an alignment time of < 20 seconds which, we believe, can open a new era for manufacturing large-size OLED monitors and TVs.

  • Magnet core and rail of a magnetically levitated vehicle are usually made of highly conductive materials. Accordingly, eddy currents are induced in those members. Eddy currents often lead to a decrement of levitation and guidance force. This paper has calculated the decrement of both forces due to eddy current generated by magnet's vertical and lateral motion. U-shaped electromagnet and rail were chosen as amodel of 2D finite element analysis. Calculated results proved that both forces dropped significantly at high speed. Consequently, effects of eddy current should be considered in designing the magnet and control system.

  • The problem was derived from a simple process in solar water heating system. In a new designed electro less separated system we involved a kind of bubble pump. Beside experiment analysis, numerical simulation of the core of bubble pump is also very important. In this paper we investigated the motion of bubbles in vertical tube in two dimensions. The heat and mass transfer was simulated. The result of numerical simulation give a significant help of optimize design of bubble pump.

  • In this study, the status of global advanced air mobility (AAM) was investigated to derive information and communications technologies (ICTs) that should be prepared according to directions of domestic AAM development. AAM is an urban air traffic system for moving from city to city by electric vertical take-off and landing or personal aircraft. It is expected to establish a three-dimensional air traffic system that can solve ground traffic congestion caused by the rapid global urbanization. With the full-scale commercialization of AAM solutions, high-density air traffic is expected, and with the advent of the personal air vehicle (PAV), the flight space usage is expected to expand. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a safe AAM service through early research on core ICTs for autonomous flight.

Case Study on the Vertical Capacity of the Repaired Large Diameter Rock-Socketed Stool Pipe Pile (보수된 대구경 암반 소켈강관말뚝의 연직지지력에 관한 사례연구)

  • It had found that, as a result of cross-hole tonic logging test, concrete was not filled partially within the bottom 2.0 m of the large diameter (Ø= 2,500mm) rock socketed pile, MP20-P11(socket diameter (Ø= 2,200mm), which was a pile among piles group supporting a pier of Kwangan Grand Bridge. The pile was repaired by the combined cement grout injected through the pipes for the cross-hole sonic logging test and the bore holes for core samples. A month after the cement grouting, repairing was checked by coring and cross-hole sonic logging then 3 times of grouting and 2 times of coring were, in turns, peformed, then repairing was completed successfully. The vertical compressive capacity of the repaired large diameter socketed pile was evaluated by several formulas and software ROCKET, and was more conservative than design load (1,882 ton) of MP20-P11. It is expected that, in the case of the battered socketed piles, it could be more reasonable to analyze the behaviors of a battered pile using 3-D model. A 3-D analysis will be peformed in the future study.
