This study examined the positive impact of workplace harassment on the employees' counterproductive work behavior at deluxe hotel in Seoul and Tokyo. The study verified a differentiated influence based on the nationality of the employees. The hypothesized relationships in the model were tested simultaneously by using structural equation modelling. First, isolation/exclusion (${\beta}=.403$), disrespectful behavior (${\beta}=.312$), physical aggression (${\beta}=.245$), and verbal aggression (${\beta}=.133$) had a positive impact on counterproductive work behavior. However, threats/bribes (${\beta}=.091$) did not show a significant impact. Second, no significant moderating effect based on employees' nationality (Korean versus Japanese) was observed in the relationship between the five workplace harassment factors and CWB. This study will investigate workplace harassment perceived by deluxe hotel employees in Korea and Japan, and the obtained data can also be used to help identify realistic plans to reduce workplace harassment between bosses and subordinates at an organizational level.
This study investigated institutionalized children's behavior problems depending on their cognitive abilities. Subjects were 185 institutionalized children in 15 child-welfare facilities in Seoul (132 preschooler and 153 primary schoolers; 106 boys and 79 girls). Institutionalized children's cognitive abilities were measured using the Comprehension and Picture Completion Assessment, two subsets of K-WPPSI (Park et al., 1996) Comprehension and Picture Completion Assessment belong to verbal and performance scale, respectively. Measures of behavior problems included anxiety, immaturity, social withdrawal, physical symptom, hyperactivity, and aggression. Data were analyzed with mean, standard deviation, and t-test. Results showed that institutionalized children had higher scores in Picture Completion Assessment than Comprehension Assessment. Furthermore, institutionalized children with low scores in Comprehension Assessment were higher in anxiety and social withdrawal than children with high scores in Comprehension Assessment.
Purpose: Meager research has been carried out to determine the effectiveness of the token economy among patients behaving violently in mental hospitals. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of the Short-Term Token Economy (STTE) on violent behavior among chronic psychiatric in-patients. Methods: A nonequivalent control group design method was utilized. Participants in an experimental group (n=22) and control group (n=22) took part in this study from January to April, 2008. Observation on aggressive behavior among male in-patients in one hospital as a baseline was made during the week before the behavior modification program and measurement of aggressive behavior was done using the Overt Aggression Scale (OAS), which includes verbal attacks, property damage and physical attacks. Results: The aggressive behavior scores of the experimental group decreased, those of the control group, scores showed an increase after the eight-week behavior modification program utilizing STTE. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that STTE is effective in reducing the incidence of aggressive behavior among male in-patients in psychiatric hospitals. The outcome of this study should be helpful in reducing the use of coercive measures or psychoactive medication in controlling the violent behavior among in-patients in hospitals.
The purpose of the present research was to study the self-regulation of the child during mother child interaction. That is. this study focused on how mothers regulated children's problem solving efforts before children began to function as independent agents capable of self-regulation. The emphasis was on the "regulation-by-others" that preceded "self-regulation". The subjects of this study were 30 mother-child dyads. The dyads were divided into 3 groups of 10 dyads each on the basis of the child's age (2, 3, and 4 years of age). The instrument used for this study was the "truck puzzle" devised by Wertsch, McNamee, Mclane and Budwig (1980). The problem solving task in this study required the dyad to make a puzzle in accordance with the model puzzle. The interaction of 30 mother-child dyads was observed and analyzed flH verbal and non-verbal behavior used by the mother to regulate the child's behavior. One-way ANOVA, Scheffe post hoc comparision and Spearman's rank-difference correlation were used for the statistical analysis of the data. The results revealed that there were significant age trends in regulation-by-others and self regulation in joint cognitive activity; that is, there were developmental transitions from regulation by-others to self-regulation in connection with crucial strategic behavior (looking at the model). Significant differences were found in mothers' interventions after children's gaze at the model in joint cognitive activity; that is, the mean proportion of mothers' intervention for the 2-year-old group was the highest and that of the 4-year-old group was the lowest. There were no significant age-related differences in mothers' use of referential perspectives in joint cognitive activity. Children's regulation- by-others increased and children's self-regulation decreased in proportion to mothers' use of referential perspectives.
Background: This study compares and analyzes the degree of oral health information literacy by 25% for upper and lower grades to assess how differences in mothers' oral health information literacy affect infants' oral health behavior. Methods: The study surveyed 201 mothers with infants and children using a 36 question survey tool. Cross-analysis was conducted to determine the difference in oral health information literacy between the upper and the lower 25%. Results: Comparing 25% of the upper and lower grades of verbal oral health information literacy scores, the word with the most significant difference in the correct answer was resin. An item asking about the time to eat after fluoride varnish application showed the most significant difference in the correct answer on the functional oral health information literacy scale. Mothers' oral and functional oral health information literacy scores showed that verbal literacy was statistically significant for brushing guidance after children's meals, brushing guidance before children's bedtime, food intake restrictions before bedtime, and restrictions on consumption of cavity-inducing foods (p<0.05). Functional literacy was statistically significant in the post-brushing test of children and the correct brushing method map items (p<0.05). Conclusion: As a result of comparing and analyzing the upper and lower 25% of the mother's oral health information literacy, it was found that the mother's oral health information literacy affected the infant's oral health behavior. Therefore, systematic education is needed to raise literacy by grasping the level of oral health information literacy of mothers, and oral health education by level according to oral health information literacy should be developed.
Providing care to the dementia elderly with behavioral problem is a major issue in nursing homes today. This study was aimed to explore the nursing staffs′ response to aggressive dementia patients, and the effect that the aggressive behavior had on Nsgstaff. The findings of this study will be useful in understanding the difficulties of nursing personnel when confronting the aggressive behavior of dementia partients. It also is useful as basic data in preparing efficient intervention program for these difficulties.
This study examines the impact of marital conflict and conflict-coping type on the marital satisfaction of rural married person. Data were obtained from 476 who married living in rural area. The major finding of this study are as follows. First, marital conflict were shown to be low, while in terms of degree of seriousness, envirnmental, interpersonal and intrapersonal are in descending order. Also, husband perceived marital conflict higher than wife. On the whole husband and wife used more reasoning coping type. And marital satisfaction was higher in husband's side. Second, living standard and conflict-coping types influence on marital satisfaction of rural men and women who married. That is, the higher husband perceived living standard and the less they used verbal aggression behavior and physical violence behavior and then the higher they perceived marital satisfaction. Health education is the first of the nine essential services of primary health care which has been advocated as a key in achieving “Health for All” by World Health Organization and its Member States since 1978. The purpose of this paper is to assist community health workers to improve the effectiveness of community health programmes through understanding key issues related to health education, and applying the recommended skills to conducting their health education programmes in the community. Chapter 1 shows the relationship between health and behavior, and the importance of understanding several key factors for people's health behavior in designing and implementing health education programmes in the specific community, and discusses ways to facilitate people's health behavior changes. Chapter 2 deals with conducting face-to-face health education with emphasis on counselling skills, and chapter 3 touches with health education for informal group, in particular at the hospital setting. Chapter 4 introduces how to create a supportive verbal communication climate, and proposes applying these skills to health education so as to improve the effectiveness of health education.
This study was to examine the characteristics of aggressive behaviour of dementia patients. It was based on the observation of the patients in a facility for dementia patients. Observation continued for two days from 9a.m. to 5p.m .. aggressive behavior was recorded using the instrument of Ryden. The result of this study is as follows. 1. appearance rate of aggressive behaviour During two days $74\%$ of the patients did aggressive behaviour(first day-$41.8\%$. second day-$62.8\%$). The average aggressive behaviour per person was 1.65. 2. types of aggressive behaviour Aggressive behaviour was the most frequent in verbal domain(157 case; $52.5\%$). Physical domain was the second$(136case;\;45.5\%)$, and sexual domain was the last$(6 case;\;2.0\%)$. More concretely, abusive/vulgar language$(74case;\;24.7\%)$ was more than anything else. Aggressive language$(65case;\;21.7\%)$, pushing$(39case;\;13.0\%)$, intimidating posture$(21case;\;7.0\%)$. slapping $(18case;\; 6.0\%)$ followed it. 3. correlation to other factors such as sex. age etc. The average aggressive behaviour of female(2.07) was higher than that of male(1.23) (p=.05). Age also had meaningful correlation to the frequency of aggressive behaviour(p=.04). All the other factors-the period of living in facility, the seriousness of dementia. movements in daily life. CAPE, emotional state. the extent of trouble in cognition- have nothing to do with the frequency of aggressive behaviour. 4. the time, place and the target of aggressive behavior Aggressive behaviour appeared more frequently in the afternoon $(138case;\;46.4\%)$ than in the morning or at lunch time. The patient's room ranked the first in the list of places where aggressive behaviour took place $(162case;\; 54.5\%)$. Nursing personnel topped in the target of aggressive behaviour$(119case;\; 39.8\%)$. 5. the preceding causes of the aggressive behavior the most frequent preceding causes of the behavior was the stimulus of another residents $(133case, 44.4\%)$ and that of nsg personnel was few relatively$(65 cases,\; 21.7\%)$. 6. Nursing personnel used verbal reaction most frequently$(40 cases,\; 51\%)$ and in a behavioral reaction they used physical restraint $(12 cases,\; 17.1\%)$ most frequently. In the reactions of nsg personnel. the rate of undesired reaction was high$(41cases,\; 44.28\%)$. and in that of the attacked residents, the usual reaction was most frequent $(80cases,\; 65.0\%)$. In the future it is needed to investigate the characteristics of aggressive behavior of dementia patients, and based on this the method of intervention must be developed. Today the number of dementia patient increases so nurses must strive to encounter aggressive behavior more desirably.
