  • Genomic DNAs(gDNAs) were isolated from the venus clam(Gomphina aequilatera) from Samcheok(venus clam from Samcheok; VCS) and Wonsan(venus clam from Wonsan; VCW) located in the East Sea of the Korean Peninsula. The amplified products were generated by agarose gel electrophoresis(AGE) with oligonucleotides primer, detected by staining with ethidium bromide and viewed by ultraviolet ray. The seven arbitrarily selected primers BION-21, BION-23, BION-25, BION-27, BION-29, BION-31 and BION-33 generated the shared loci, polymorphic, and specific loci, with the molecular sizes ranging from 150 bp to 2,400 bp. In this study, 147 polymorphic loci(147/954 loci, 15.41%) in VCS population and 274(274/996 loci, 27.51%) in VCW population were generated with seven primers. These results suggest the genetic variation in VCW population is higher than in VCS population. Especially, the 700 bp bands generated by the primer BION-21 were identified commonly in two Gomphina populations, which identified populations and/or species. This specific primer was found to be useful in the identification of individuals and/or population, resulting from the different DNA polymorphism among individuals/species/population. Two Gomphina populations between the individual SAMCHEOK no. 03 and WONSAN no. 22 showed the longest genetic distance(0.696) in comparison with other individuals used. The complete linkage cluster analysis indicating three genetic groupings and dendrogram revealed close relationships among individual identities within two geographical populations of venus clam(G. aequilatera) from the Samcheok and Wonsan. The intra-species classification and clustering analyses inferred from molecular markers supported the traditional taxonomy of the species based on morphological characters such as shell size, shape and color. Accordingly, as mentioned above, RAPD analysis showed that VCS population was more or less separated from VCW population.

  • Venus clam, Protothaca jedoensis was collected in lune 2003 from Yosu, Korea. The prevalence and infection intensity of Perkinsus was determined by Ray's Fluid thioglycollate medium technique and Choi's 2 M NaOH digestive assay. The prevalence of infection was 80% in Yosu; 54.2% in Taejon and 15.5% in Sachon. Consequently, infection intensity was highest in clams from Yosu (6250${\pm}$8188 Perkinsus cells/g of tissue) whereas lower levels were found in Taejon (5072${\pm}$10862 Perkinsus cells/g of tissue) and in Sachon (2452${\pm}$15300 Perhnsus cells/g of tissue). Histological observation showed that Perkinsus presented in mantle, gills, digestive tubes and gonad of clams. The hemocytic infiltrations and tissue damages were found in heavy Perkinsus-infected clams. Results after immunofluorescence staining with antibody developed from Perkinsus atlanticus suggested that there is closed relationship between Perkinsus found in Venus clam and Manila clam.

  • Based on both field and laboratory experiments, seasonal changes in the species composition and abundance of phytoplankton in the gut contents of the jedo venus clam, Protothaca jedoensis, and its feeding selectivity were investigated. The phytoplankton in the gut contents comprised Bacillariophyceae (diatom), Chlorophyceae, Chrysophyceae, and Dinophyceae, of which the diatoms being the most predominant throughout the year. Although the number of species and the abundance of phytoplankton in the sea water were always more diverse and more abundant than in the gut contents, the relative number and abundance were generally similar in the seawater and in the gut contents. In the laboratory experiments, the relative abundances of Coscinodiscus marginatus and Thalassirosira eccentrica were much more higher in the gut contents than any other algal species, while Paralia sulcata, Skeletonema costatum, and Eucampia zodiacus were abundant in order of cell density in the ambient water. These results suggest that P. jedoensis may feed preferably on single algal cell or smaller chains of algal cells.

  • We investigated the effects of death and gametogenesis by infection of the trematode in the venus clam, Cyclina sinensis. The specimens of C. sinensis were collected monthly at the tidal flat of Kaehwado, Puan-gun and Sangpo aquafarms, Kochang-gun, Chollabuk-do, Korea, from June 1999 to May 2000. One species of a trematode, the metacercaria of Himasthla kusasigi Yamaguti, 1939 (Enchinistomatidae), was found in the venus clam, C. sinensis. Infection rates in Kaehwado area and Sangpo aquafarm were average 93% and 81%, respectively. Infection rates during the study period reached the maximum (100%) in September 1999 and March-April 2000 and showed the minimum (80%) in July in Kaehwado, while those in Sangpo aquafarm showed the maximum (99%) in January 2000 and the minimum (47%) in November 1999. The infection parts of the metacercaria of H. kusasigi in the venus clam were the visceral mass, gill, mantle including the foot. Their infection rates in Kaehwado area and Sangpo aquafarm were 76.7% and 81.3% in the visceral mass, 19.1% and 14.5% in the gill, and 5,1% and 4.2% in the mantle, respectively. Infection rates of H. kusasigi showed higher with the increase of the size of the clams. No abnormal characteristics in the various tissues by histological observations were found in the clams infected by the metacercaria of H. kusasigi because this clam is the second intermediate host.

  • This study is a study to analyze Nativity's occupational aptitude by examining the functions and structures of the planets that make up the Nativity birth chart of Classic Astrology. If the occupation that appears in the birth chart is viewed as an individual's natural occupation, it is analyzed through the strength and weakness of the sign and planets, and the aspect (relationship with the planet). In Classic Astrology's nativity birth chart, there are three major planets when judging occupations: Venus (♀). Mars (♂). It was thought to be determined by Mercury (☿). However, in order to meet the diversity of jobs required in today's highly developed knowledge and information society, there are some shortcomings, so Saturn (♄), Jupiter (♃), Sun (☉), Moon (☽) was added to apply the aptitude for the job. Thus, the native's ASC vocational aptitude could be applied more diversely and broadly based on the relationship between planets and their aspects. As a result, Venus (♀. Venus) means enjoying artistic work that people think is beautiful and making it a pleasure in life, while Mars (♂) means work that requires physical strength and strength, such as working days. Mercury (☿) means using knowledge and brains, and the Sun (☉) plays a role in giving authority to jobs and talents. The Moon (☽) helps the native gain people's trust in his or her profession and talents, Jupiter (♃) helps the native to revive his or her profession and talents through faith, sincerity, fairness, and generosity, and Saturn (♄) can appear as an obstacle that blocks career and talent due to greed, sadness, poverty, etc. As a result of the study, it was found that the native's occupations vary depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the planets and their aspect relationships.

  • We developed an accurate and reliable photogrammetric method available instead of the direct measurement method and the three-dimensional scanning method. Our research was restricted to a head on the body. Approaching three-dimensionally, we calibrated a distorted image of a photograph and got linear equations of camera beams. Then we assigned z values of landmarks in the head and obtained three-dimensional coordinates for each landmark putting those z values in linear equations of camera beams and finally could calculate measurement results from those three-dimensional coordinates. When we compared results obtained by a program, 'Venus Face Measurement(VFM)' that we had developed applying our method with results obtained by the direct measurement method, VFM showed very accurate and reliable results. In conclusion the photogrammetric method developed in this study was testified to an outstanding measurement method as a substitute for the direct measurement method and the three-dimensional scanning method.

  • Meningiomas frequently invade cerebral venus sinuses, especially parasagittal meningioma to superior sagittal sinus. However, most invasions do not reach internal jugular vein. We present a case of parasagittal meningioma extending into the internal jugular vein through the sinuses. Radiological investigation revealed that the tumor was invading the sagittal, transverse, sigmoid sinus and junction of the internal jugular vein to subclavian vein, which was filled with tumor. The histopathological examinations revealed that both the cerebral tumor and mass in the internal jugular vein contributed to the transitional meningioma. This is a rare case of a meningioma extending into the internal jugular vein through the sinuses. According to this case, the frontal parasagittal meningioma could invade directly the internal jugular vein. The significance of this association to cerebral venus sinuses and internal jugular vein are discussed.

  • This study observed change of survival rate, activity and foot structure of the equilateral venus (Gomphina veneriformis) exposed to cadmium. Survival rate and activity of the clam exposed to cadmium was reduced with increase of exposure duration and concentration. Change of survival rate and activity was observed in the early exposure time (7 days) in the condition of above 1 77 mg/L and 0.88 mg/L, respectively. Activity reduction of the clam exposed to cadmium seems to be caused by epidermal layer deformation, muscle fiber fragmentation and muscular layer collapse of the foot.
