Broadcasting Message Reduction Methods in VANET

  • Most Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) applications rely heavily on broadcast transmission of traffic related information to all reachable nodes within a certain geographical area. Among various broadcast approaches, flooding is the first broadcasting technique. Each node rebroadcasts the received message exactly once, which results in broadcast storm problems. Some mechanisms have been proposed to improve flooding in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET), but they are not effective for VANET and only a few studies have addressed this issue. We propose two distance-based and timer-based broadcast suppression techniques: 15P(15percent) and slotted 15P. In the first (distance based) scheme, node's transmission range is divided into three ranges (80%,15%and5%). Only nodes within 15% range will rebroadcast received packet. Specific packet retransmission range (15%) is introduced to reduce the number of messages reforwarding nodes that will mitigate the broadcaststorm. In the second (timer-based) scheme, waiting time allocation for nodes within 15% range isused to significantly reduce the broadcaststorm. The proposed schemes are distributed and reliedon GPS information and do not requireany other prior knowledge about network topology. To analyze the performance of proposed schemes, statistics such as link load and the number of retransmitted nodes are presented. Our simulation results show that the proposed schemes can significantly reduce link load at high node densities up to 90 percent compared to a simple broadcast flooding technique.

Infotainment Services Based on Push-Mode Dissemination in an Integrated VANET and 3G Architecture

  • Given the bandwidth assignment for dedicated short range communications for use in vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) and the expected introduction of equipment in the next few years, we elaborate on how VANET can support infotainment services. We define an architectural model for the integration of VANETs and cellular networks, according to a push mode paradigm where VANETs are used primarily to disseminate service announcements and general interest messages. Cooperation with cellular network is addressed by comparing architecture alternatives. A set of information dissemination protocols for VANETs is compared via simulations on a real urban map. Some results from a lab testbed based on IEEE 802.11p boards are presented along with an application developed for Android operating system to demonstrate the concept of the paper.

SS 다중반송파 변조방식을 이용한 효율적인 차량 에드혹 네트워크 거리측정 기법 (An Efficient Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks and Ranging System Using Spread Spectrum Multi-carrier Modulation Scheme)

  • 본 논문에서는 통신과 거리측정을 동시에 행하는 대역확산방식을 이용한 VANET에서의 거리측정 시스템에 다중반송파(Multi-Carrier) 변조방식을 적용한 시스템을 제안한다. 기존방식에서는 자기차량이 송신한 PN신호에 상대차량의 정보를 실어서 재송신하고 자기차량은 대역확산에 의해 상대차량 정보를 파악하였으며, 동시에 송수신한 PN신호의 위상차를 탐지허여 차량거리를 정확하게 측정하는 것이 가능했다. 그러나 그 차량거리 측정의 문제점으로서 위상차의 탐지 오차와 분석 능력을 높이기 위해 고속 PN신호가 펼요할 수밖에 없다. 제안 시스템은 이러한 문제점 해결을 위해 다중반송파 변조방식을 적용했다. 다중반송파 변조방식은 단일반송파와 비교해서 Chip rate이 작은 PN신호를 사용함으로 단일반송파와 동일한 주파수 대역에서 복수의 반송파 이용이 가능하다. 복수의 반송파는 등이득 합성법에 의해 합성되기 때문에 다이버시티 효과가 얻어져 위상차의 에러검출을 방지하는 것이 가능하고 정밀 거리측정도 기존방식과 비교해서 우수하게 개선되었다.

데이터 운송 중계기를 운용하는 무선 선형 네트워크에서의 전송률 성능 분석 (Network Throughput Analysis of Mechanical Relay Assisted Transmission in Wireless Line Networks)

  • 데이터-운송 중계기(mechanical relay: McR)는 운송 지연 및 간헐적 접속단절을 반영하는 중계기법 중에 하나다. 기존의 비이동성 중계기법과 달리, 데이터-운송 중계기법은 다양한 종류의 차량 및 교통기반시설의 이동성을 이용하여 근거리의 송수신이 가능하게 하는 점에서 잠재적인 이득이 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 McR을 운용하는 무선 선형 네트워크(wireless line networks: WLN)를 고려하고, 각 사용자간의 다중 홉 무선전송 기법과 데이터-운송 중계기법을 비교하고, 에르고딕 네트워크 전송률의 관점에서 분석한다. 또한 Vehicle SISO(Ve-SISO) 뿐만 아니라 Vehicle SIMO/MISO(Ve-SIMO/MISO)의 경우에 대해서도 McR의 사용을 고려한다. 에르고딕 네트워크 전송률에 대한 실험 결과로부터 McR의 속도, 사용자와 McR의 밀도, 그리고 McR의 사용방식에 따라서 나타나는 트레이드-오프관계를 살펴본다.

An Efficient Local Map Building Scheme based on Data Fusion via V2V Communications

  • The precise identification of vehicle positions, known as the vehicle localization problem, is an important requirement for building intelligent vehicle ad-hoc networks (VANETs). To solve this problem, two categories of solutions are proposed: stand-alone and data fusion approaches. Compared to stand-alone approaches, which use single information including the global positioning system (GPS) and sensor-based navigation systems with differential corrections, data fusion approaches analyze the position information of several vehicles from GPS and sensor-based navigation systems, etc. Therefore, data fusion approaches show high accuracy. With the position information on a set of vehicles in the preprocessing stage, data fusion approaches is used to estimate the precise vehicular location in the local map building stage. This paper proposes an efficient local map building scheme, which increases the accuracy of the estimated vehicle positions via V2V communications. Even under the low ratio of vehicles with communication modules on the road, the proposed local map building scheme showed high accuracy when estimating the vehicle positions. From the experimental results based on the parameters of the practical vehicular environments, the accuracy of the proposed localization system approached the single lane-level.

Enhancing VANET Security: Efficient Communication and Wormhole Attack Detection using VDTN Protocol and TD3 Algorithm

  • Due to the rapid evolution of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs), effective communication and security are now essential components in providing secure and reliable vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication. However, due to their dynamic nature and potential threats, VANETs need to have strong security mechanisms. This paper presents a novel approach to improve VANET security by combining the Vehicular Delay-Tolerant Network (VDTN) protocol with the Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) technique known as the Twin Delayed Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (TD3) algorithm. A store-carry-forward method is used by the VDTN protocol to resolve the problems caused by inconsistent connectivity and disturbances in VANETs. The TD3 algorithm is employed for capturing and detecting Worm Hole Attack (WHA) behaviors in VANETs, thereby enhancing security measures. By combining these components, it is possible to create trustworthy and effective communication channels as well as successfully detect and stop rushing attacks inside the VANET. Extensive evaluations and simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, enhancing both security and communication efficiency.

  • VANET 응용 중 가장 중요한 한 가지는 긴급 메시지를 전송하여 적극적인 안전을 제공하는 것이다. 메시지를 받은 아무 노드나 재방송하게 되는 플러딩 기반 방송 방식의 브로드캐스트 스톰을 방지하기 위해, 기존의 프로토콜들은 중계노드의 수를 제한하기 위한 다른 방법을 사용한다. 하지만 기존의 프로토콜들은 높은 트래픽 밀도와 메시지 오버헤드를 발생시킴에도 볼구하고 낮은 전달율을 가진다. 현재, 글로벌 위치확인 시스템(GPS)을 내장하고 레이더를 갖춘 차량 수의 극적인 증가는 이전에 볼수 없던 새로운 응용 시나리오를 만들었다. 따라서 우리는 GPS위치정보와 레이더를 사용한 인근 차량 감지를 기반으로 중계노드를 선택하는 브로드캐스팅 프로토콜을 제안한다. 시뮬레이션 결과에서는 제안하는 프로토콜이 기존의 기법들보다 나은 성능을 가짐을 볼 수 있다.

A Robust and Efficient Anonymous Authentication Protocol in VANETs

  • Recently, Lu et al. proposed an efficient conditional privacy preservation protocol, named ECPP, based on group signature scheme for generating anonymous certificates from roadside units (RSUs). However, ECPP does not provide unlinkability and traceability when multiple RSUs are compromised. In this paper, we make up for the limitations and propose a robust and efficient anonymous authentication protocol without loss of efficiency as compared with ECPP. Furthermore, in the proposed protocol, RSUs can issue multiple anonymous certificates to an OBU to alleviate system overheads for mutual authentication between OBUs and RSUs. In order to achieve these goals, we consider a universal re-encryption scheme and identity-based key establishment scheme as our building blocks. Several simulations are conducted to verify the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed protocol by comparing with those of the existing ECPP.

도시 차량 애드 혹 네트워크를 위한 라우팅 프로토콜 (A Routing Protocol for Urban Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks)

  • 무선 네트워크를 이용한 서비스가 보편화됨에 따라 차량을 통한 네트워크 역시 그 기술의 중요성이 부각되고 있다. 각 차량을 통신 주체로 하는 VANET은 라우팅 프로토콜이 통신의 중요한 요소이지만, MANET 라우팅 프로토콜에 비하여 그 연구가 미비하다. 본 연구에서는 VANET의 상황을 고려하여 ant colony optimization 휴리스틱 알고리즘의 흔적을 이용하는 기법을 통해서 VANET 라우팅 프로토콜을 제안하고자 한다. 또한 이를 검증하기 위해 VANET의 시뮬레이션 방법에 대해서 알아보고 이를 통해서 제안한 라우팅 프로토콜이 패킷 전송률, 제어 패킷의 수의 메트릭에서 더 나은 성능임을 보인다.

VANET 환경에서의 협력적 메시지 전달을 위한 블록체인 기반 평판 시스템 (A Reputation System based on Blockchain for Collaborative Message Delivery over VANETs)

  • Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) have become one of the active areas of research, standardization, and development because they have tremendous potentials to improve vehicle and road safety, traffic efficiency, and convenience as well as comfort to both drivers and passengers. However, message trustfulness is a challenge because the propagation of false message by malicious vehicles induces unreliable and ineffectiveness of VANETs, Therefore, we need a reliable reputation method to ensure message trustfulness. In this paper, we consider a vulnerability against the Sybil attack of the previous reputation systems based on blockchain and suggest a new reputation system which resists against Sybil attack on the previous system. We propose an initial authentication process as a countermeasure against a Sybil attack and provide a reliable reputation with a cooperative message delivery to cope with message omission. In addition, we use Homomorphic Commitment to protect the privacy breaches in VANETs environment.
