Preliminary EMC Analysis between the COMS and the GEO Launch Vehicles (통신해양기상위성과 정지궤도 발사체와의 전자파 적합성 해석)

  • In this paper, the preliminary EMC analysis process between the Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) and Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) launch vehicles in the frequency range [1MHz-47MHz] is described. The considered launch vehicles are arian V, sea Launch, land Launch, atlas III&V, delta IV, proton M/breeze M, soyuz, HII-A and Angara. The launch vehicle Radiated Emission (RE) specifications have been compared to COMS satellite Radiated Susceptibility (RS) limits. The COMS RS limits are the RS qualification levels of COMS units during launch. As a result, The radiated emission levels of arian V, sea launch, atlas III&V, delta IV, proton M/breeze M, HII-A and angara are compliant with COMS RS limits. The negative margins appear between land launch or soyuz launch vehicle RE and COMS RS. Then, if the land launch or soyuz is chosen by the customer, The tests should be performed at satellite level in order to demonstrate the compatibility with respect to launch vehicles specifications.

  • The composition of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) was anlyzed for major emission sources such as vehicle exhaust, gasoline and diesel vapor, organic solvent vapor, and butane fuel gas. Low carbon-numbered hydrocarbons were found to be the dominant components of gasoline vehicle exhaust. In gasoline evaporative vapor, the predominant constituents were found to be butane and iso-pentane regardless of ambient air temperature. In case of diesel evaporative vapor was similar to those of gasoline evaporative vapor. The composition of organic solvent vapor from painting, ink and petroleum consisted mostly or aromatic compounds such as toluene and m, p, o-xylene. The hydrocarbon fraction of butane fuel gas. which is used by portable bunner, consisted mainly of propane (34%) and butane(70%).

  • This paper described the effect of dual clutch transmissions on the stability emissions characteristic in a GDI engine at vehicle Inspection and Maintenance(I/M) program. In order to investigate the influence of direct injection gasoline engine with DCT, the experimental apparatus consisted of GDI engine with 4 cylinder, dynamometer and exhaust emissions analyzer. Analyzed emission gas include CO, HC and NOx results that DCT vehicle in the case of NOx, HC in automatic transmission vehicles less than 1/2 level was confirmed to be exhausted. However vehicle specific power increases CO also has increased.

A Study on Converter OBD (컨버터 OBD에 대한 연구)

  • As a part of stringent emission regulations, OBD on a converter is requested by EU and CARB. It demands that MIL is light-on to inform the failure to the driver when the converter is failed in its function. Usually dual oxygen sensor method is used for converter OBD. For this, detail methods, like amplitude ratio, time delay and frequency ratio methods are adapted for vehicle application. Actually, the cars produced later than MY94 for US market are using one of these methods. In this study, OSCs of converters are investigated with an absolute measuring method. The converters are aged with a furnace aging, an engine bench aging and vehicle aging method to represent various aging condition in field applications. An OBD index that is used for TLEVs regulation is also investigated to find a relation between two parameters. The relations of these parameters with THC emission on vehicle are evaluated.

Development of Vehicle Tunnel Ventilation System (도로터널 환기시스템 개발연구)

  • This paper aims at studying the key design elements for the optimal ventilation system design, developing the design models and suggesting the design guidelines. The key elements include the basic exhaust emission rate, wall friction coefficient, vehicle drag coefficient and slip streaming effect, jet fan operating efficiency, natural ventilation force and installation scheme for jet fans and ventilation monitors in tunnel. The design models developed in this study are one-dimensional ventilation simulator to analyze the air flow, pressure profile and pollutant dispersion inside and outside tunnel, expert model to choose the optimal ventilation method, and the ventilation characteristic chart to evaluate the preliminary ventilation system. The study results are reflected in the design guideline for road tunnel ventilation system.

  • The Deterioration Factor (DF) for a single pollutant within an engine family is computed as the ratio of two points on a linear regression line describing durability vehicle test results as a function of accumulated mileage. It is inteded to represent the factor by which emissions will increase during the ''useful life" of a vehicle in the engine family. Here are discribed procedures for computing the DF and how consideration of the DF is included in the development for the motor vehicle emission certification process. This paper is aimed to develop the distribution of the DF for three pollutant and to estimate the parameter values for the distribution of the DF.

Estimation of Vehicle Kilometers Travelled and Air Pollution Emission from Motorcycles (이륜차의 일 주행거리조사와 대기오염 배출량 추정)

  • Recently it has reported that the motorcycle is a major source of air pollution in urban area by many studies. But the air pollution emission from motorcycle has been high uncertainty due investigation of a lack of activity data and emission factors in Korea. So in this study, the population of moped and VKT (Vehicle kilometers travelled) of motorcycle are investigated for calculation of the emission from this source categories. As the results, the population of moped is estimated as about 400, 000 and corresponded as 23% of registrated motorcycle which is larger than 50 cc in engine displacement. And it is found that the VKT of moped and motorcycle are investigated as 19.1 km/day and 32.3 km/day. Annual air pollution emission from motorcycle and moped are estimated by investigated VKT and updated emission factors. The nationwide emissions of PM_{10}, CO, $NO_x$, VOC are calculated as 910 ton/yr, 208, 198 ton/yr, 3, 032 ton/yr and 25, 575 ton/yr in 2008. The contribution ratio of CO, VOC emission from these sources are estimated as 29%, 24% in on-road transport sector and it is confirmed that motorcycle and moped are major air pollution sources in urban area.

Studies of $VOC_s$ Emission Rate Calculation in the Kwang-ju Area (광주지역의 $VOC_s$ 배출량산정에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted from January to December in Kwang-ju city, 1999. Calculated methods were studied by emission factors in each industrial species. The results was that total emission rate of VOC was calculated at a mount of 12305 ton/year as coating(49.4) > vehicles(27.4) > gasoline vapors(6.1) > petroleum refineries(5.6) > graphic arts(4.4) > road covering(4.1) > dry cleang(3.0%) respectively. In vehicles emission rate, passenger car and taxi were about 2,700 ton/yr(60%) of total vehicle emission(3,300 ton/yr). The amount of building emission rate was about 1,900 ton/yr(30%) of total coating emission 6,083 ton/yr.

  • To evaluate vehicle performances and driving behavior of a vehicle, it is necessary to acquisit and analyze vehicle data during the vehicle driving, which affect fuel economy and emissions. An in-vehicle data acquisition system, which is called Mode Survey System(MOSS), is designed and developed to analyze the traffic and driving patterns of the vehicle. MOSS is a stand-alone system based on the 68HC11 MCU. MOSS logs various data relating to powertrain and vehicle driving such as vehicle speed, engine RPM, gear position, brake, clutch, fuel consumption, and others. The driving patterns are dependent on the driver's habit and the road and traffic conditions, these driving patterns would be able to make a official driving mode to be used in emission, fuel efficiency, shift survey, catalyst durability, and other tests using the analyzed driving patterns.

  • Modern diesel vehicle has to comply with the EURO IV, V regulation with low level of particulate matter and smoke emission Moreover, emission standards of each countries are becoming stringent in advanced countries such as USA and Europe. Because Bio-diesel is similar to diesel fuel, it is essential to judge the environmental and health effects deriving from the use of Bio-diesel in diesel engine. The deterioration characteristics of emission in accordance with aging vehicles must be regulated for Bio-diesel. Therefore, under 1200 driving hours, 220,000km driving distance condition and full load, the deterioration characteristics of emission were estimated. We could reduce sulfur contents of fuel, particulate matter and smoke emission by using Bio-diesel and conform the influence of engine performance, emission, and fuel consumption by Bio-diesel deterioration
