An Investigation of Vehicle-to-Vehicle Distance Control Laws Using Hardware-in-the Loop Simulation (Hardware-in-the Loop Simulation 을 통한 차간거리 제어시스템의 제어 성능 연구)

  • This paper represents an investigation of the vehicle-to-vehicle distance control system using Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation(HiLS). Control logic is primarily developed and tested with a specially equipped test vehicle. Establishment of an efficient and low cost development tool is a very important issue, and test vehicle approach is costly and time consuming. HiLS method is useful in the investigation of driver assistance and active safety systems. The HiLS system consists of a stepper motor for throttle control, a hydraulic brake system with an electronic vacuum booster, an electronic controller unit, a data logging computer which are used to save vehicle states and signals of actuator through a CAN and a simulation computer using mathematical vehicle model. Adaptation of a CAN instead of RS-232 Serial Interface for communication is a trend in the automotive industry. Since this environment is the same as a test vehicle, a control logic verified in laboratory can be easily transferred to a test vehicle.

  • In this paper, look into the applicable communication for unmanned vehicle system development, and make an alternative idea to IEEE 802.11a. "IEEE 802.11a" is differently from "IEEE 802.11b/g"-which used to 2.4GHz ISM band-as it use OFDM modulation system of 5GHz band, as contrasted with "IEEE 802.11b/g" of ISM band, it has advantage against falling-off the capability caused by interfered, and provide maximum 54Mbps communication speed. Made a priority tested Soft Roaming and Hard Roaming to ensure the sound boom of unmanned vehicle in the flat parking. According to the each effect value, Present a most suitable method of applicable to "IEEE 802.11a" to unmanned vehicle system.

WAVE System Performance for Platooning Vehicle Service Requirements Under Highway Environments (고속도로 환경에서 군집주행 서비스 요구사항에 대한 WAVE 통신시스템 성능 분석)

  • This paper analyzes the performance limit of WAVE system for the platooning service requirements which is referred from the de facto standards. The performance of the packet error rate and mean delay as key parameters in the wireless communication systems should be satisfied to provide safety to the platooning vehicles. The test scenarios are conducted by considering the following vehicle groups: platooning vehicles, vehicles within a hop distance and vehicles within two hop distance( called hidden node vehicles). The models of packet error rate and delay deals with the topology of aforementioned vehicle groups, vehicle speed and communication range. The numerical results are obtained in terms of packet size, packet arrival rate and data transmission rate. Finally, this paper suggests the robust range of packet error rate and delay for the WAVE system to provide the platooning vehicle service.

Development of a Smart Grid Monitoring System with Anti-Islanding Function for Electric Vehicle Charging (안티아일랜딩 기능을 적용한 전기자동차 충전계통 연계 스마트그리드 모니터링 시스템 개발)

  • In this paper, we present a smart grid monitoring system connected with electric vehicle charging system using anti-islanding method. Electric vehicles can be charged through remote control of smart grid monitoring system and the charging process may be more stable and more efficient by wireless communication between the Local Area Module and End Modules. It is illustrated by some experiments that electric vehicle charging process may not be interrupted without any serious fault even though the islanding phenomena occurred in the grid if the presented monitoring system was applied to the smart grid system.

  • The COMS(Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite) is subjected to shock loads when the stage or fairing of a launch vehicle is separated and the satellite is separated from the launch vehicle during the launch vehicle flight. And, after the satellite is separated from the launcher, the COMS is subjected to shock loads when the solar array is deployed, Ka-Band communication antenna is deployed, and meteorological imager radiator cover is released. In order to validate the satellite safety against these shock loads on ground, shock tests were performed. In this paper, the shock tests performed in the course of the COMS development are described, and the method to assess the test result is presented with an example of Geostationary Ocean Color Imager(GOCI). In Ariane-5 launch vehicle, the clampband release shock for satellite separation is lower than the fairing or stage separation. In this paper, the extrapolation method to take into account the maximum shock load from the launch vehicle by using the satellite separation shock test result is also introduced.

  • V2X communication is a technology in which a vehicle exchanges information with various entities such as other vehicles, infrastructure, networks, pedestrians, etc. through a wired or wireless network. Recently, V2X communication technology has been steadily developed and recently it has played an important role in autonomous cooperation driving technology combined with autonomous vehicle technology. Autonomous vehicles can utilize the external information received via V2X communication to extend the recognition range of existing sensors and to support more safe and natural autonomous driving. In order to operate these autonomous cooperative vehicles on public roads, the security and reliability of autonomous V2X communication should be verified in advance. In this paper, we present test scenarios and test procedures of secure V2X communication for cooperative automated driving and present verification results.

A Study on Emergency Communication Policy and System between Vehicles using Infrared Rays (적외선을 이용한 차량간 긴급통신 정책 및 시스템의 연구)

  • As the number of elderly drivers increases, traffic accidents from the elderly also increase. In particular, the emergency situation of the elderly driver is not transmitted to the following vehicle during cloudy days and night highway accidents, so it is extended to the second and third accidents, leaving serious aftereffects. Therefore, there is an urgent need to establish an economic and effective inter-vehicle emergency communication system between the accident vehicle of the elderly and the following vehicles. In this paper, we have proposed a policy and method that can take advantage of the special emergency light pattern of an elderly driver in an emergency and transmit it to the following vehicles, thereby providing secondary accident prevention and emergency relief. Furthermore, by introducing an infrared emergency communication system between vehicles using red brake lights and implementing it as a prototype of RC-Car, we have checked the feasibility of the system.

  • LED is low power and pro-environment semiconductor element. That can be used not only as the lighting function but also for Visible Light Communication(VLC). The VLC is the communication technology that can send data by blinking a fluorescent or LED using visible spectrum. That velocity of blinking can not be usually recognized by eyesight. Visible Light Communication using LED can be used in many fields. In the field of ITS(Intelligent Transportation System), Under construction on the road, Emitting traffic signs can be applied to transfer the vehicle information. In this paper, Emitting traffic signs in addition to the VLC give information about road condition, safety distance and the lane change. We design Communication protocol to provide safety service and verify protocol by experiment.

  • The environmental regulations are being strengthened all over the world, and the introduction of electric vehicles are actively being considered to cope with them effectively. It is essential to establish a charging infrastructure, which is an essential element of electric vehicle distribution. In this paper, power line communication technology essential for smart charging infrastructure is studied. A control board capable of achieving a physical layer speed of 10Mbps and a TCP/IP layer of 4.5Mbps, which conforms to the ISO/IEC 15118 international standard, and a control board mounted on the board and compliant with international standards. We have developed a software solution to perform functions for linking. In addition, in order to be applied to the combo-type DC fast charger, the hardware was designed to meet the industrial environment standard and the V2G communication module was developed by integrating it with the software solution.

  • Electronic devices in railway vehicle perform various functions such as not only braking and propulsion but also monitoring of vehicle condition, on-line diagnosis, and passenger information service, etc. These devices, distributed in vehicle, should be efficiently connected so as to properly perform the functions. IEC (International Electro-Technical Commission) standardized train communication network (TCN) as IEC 61375-1, -2. TCN can reduce the interconnecting work load by reducing the number of wire-line, compared with existing hard-wire connection, and it brings the efficient control by enabling various devices to share the information. But existing TCN can not satisfy the increasing service demands like passenger internet access and CCTV surveillance, etc. In this paper, we investigate ECN (Ethernet Consist Network) and ETN (Ethernet Train Backbone) which are proposed to satisfy these demands and in the process of standardization by IEC TC9 WG43.
