  • 모바일 기기의 제한적 환경에서 공간데이터의 활용을 극대화하기 위해 벡터데이터의 압축에 대한 연구가 최근 이뤄지고 있다. 이 중 군집화 방법을 이용한 벡터데이터 압축은 기존 압축방법과 다른 새로운 형태로 주목을 받고 있다. 그러나 현재까지 연구는 데이터의 동적인 갱신이 고려되지 않았다. 본 연구는 기존의 군집화 방법을 이용한 벡터데이터 압축방법의 문제점을 파악하고, 데이터의 동적인 갱신이 고려된 압축 방법을 제시하였다. 실험을 통한 결과는 갱신이 발생하였을 경우 제안된 방법이 더 좋은 결과를 나타냄을 확인할 수 있었다.

Least-Squares Support Vector Machine for Regression Model with Crisp Inputs-Gaussian Fuzzy Output

  • Least-squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) has been very successful in pattern recognition and function estimation problems for crisp data. In this paper, we propose LS-SVM approach to evaluating fuzzy regression model with multiple crisp inputs and a Gaussian fuzzy output. The proposed algorithm here is model-free method in the sense that we do not need assume the underlying model function. Experimental result is then presented which indicate the performance of this algorithm.

  • In this paper we propose a prediction method on the regression model with randomly censored observations of the training data set. The least squares support vector machine regression is applied for the regression function prediction by incorporating the weights assessed upon each observation in the optimization problem. Numerical examples are given to show the performance of the proposed prediction method.

  • This paper develops support vector based fuzzy linear and nonlinear regression models and applies it to forecasting the exchange rate. We use the result of Tanaka(1982, 1987) for crisp input and output. The model makes it possible to forecast the best and worst possible situation based on fewer than 50 observations. We show that the developed model is good through real data.

  • In this paper, we propose an optimal feature extraction method for normally distributed multiclass data. We search the whole feature space to find a set of features that give the smallest classification error for the Gaussian ML classifier. Initially, we start with an arbitrary feature vector. Assuming that the feature vector is used for classification, we compute the classification error. Then we move the feature vector slightly and compute the classification error with this vector. Finally we update the feature vector such that the classification error decreases most rapidly. This procedure is done by taking gradient. Alternatively, the initial vector can be those found by conventional feature extraction algorithms. We propose two search methods, sequential search and global search. Experiment results show that the proposed method compares favorably with the conventional feature extraction methods.

On the Study of Perfect Coverage for Recommender System

  • The similarity weight, the pearson's correlation coefficient, which is used in the recommender system has a weak point that it cannot predict all of the prediction value. The similarity weight, the vector similarity, has a weak point of the high MAE although the prediction coverage using the vector similarity is higher than that using the pearson's correlation coefficient. The purpose of this study is to suggest how to raise the prediction coverage. Also, the MAE using the suggested method in this study was compared both with the MAE using the pearson's correlation coefficient and with the MAE using the vector similarity, so was the prediction coverage. As a result, it was found that the low of the MAE in the case of using the suggested method was higher than that using the pearson's correlation coefficient. However, it was also shown that it was lower than that using the vector similarity. In terms of the prediction coverage, when the suggested method was compared with two similarity weights as I mentioned above, it was found that its prediction coverage was higher than that pearson's correlation coefficient as well as vector similarity.

  • This thesis aims at studying laplacian pyramid vector quantization which keeps a simple compression algorithm and stability against various kinds of image data. To this end, images are devied into two groups according to their statistical characteristics. At 0.860 bits/pixel and 0.360 bits/pixel respectively, laplacian pyramid vector quantization is compared to the existing spatial domain vector quantization and transform coding under the same condition in both objective and subjective value. The laplacian pyramid vector quantization is much more stable against the statistical characteristics of images than the existing vector quantization and transform coding.

  • In this paper, we propose a satellite multispectral image data compression method using classified vector quantization. This method classifies each pixel vector considering band characteristics of multispectral images. For each class, we perform both intraband and interband vector quantization to romove spatial and spectral redundancy, respectively. And residual vector quantization for error images is performed to reduce error of interband vector quantization. Thus, this method improves compression efficiency because of removing both intraband(spatial) and interband (spectral) redundancy in multispectral images, effectively. Experiments on landsat TM multispectral image show that compression efficiency of proposed method is better than that of conventional method.

The Use of MSVM and HMM for Sentence Alignment

  • In this paper, two new approaches to align English-Arabic sentences in bilingual parallel corpora based on the Multi-Class Support Vector Machine (MSVM) and the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) classifiers are presented. A feature vector is extracted from the text pair that is under consideration. This vector contains text features such as length, punctuation score, and cognate score values. A set of manually prepared training data was assigned to train the Multi-Class Support Vector Machine and Hidden Markov Model. Another set of data was used for testing. The results of the MSVM and HMM outperform the results of the length based approach. Moreover these new approaches are valid for any language pairs and are quite flexible since the feature vector may contain less, more, or different features, such as a lexical matching feature and Hanzi characters in Japanese-Chinese texts, than the ones used in the current research.

  • Statistical learning theory has three analytical tools which are support vector machine, support vector regression, and support vector clustering for classification, regression, and clustering respectively. In general, their performances are good because they are constructed by convex optimization. But, there are some problems in the methods. One of the problems is the subjective determination of the parameters for kernel function and regularization by the arts of researchers. Also, the results of the learning machines are depended on the selected parameters. In this paper, we propose an efficient method for objective determination of the parameters of support vector clustering which is the clustering method of statistical learning theory. Using evolutionary algorithm and bootstrap method, we select the parameters of kernel function and regularization constant objectively. To verify improved performances of proposed research, we compare our method with established learning algorithms using the data sets form ucr machine learning repository and synthetic data.
