Slope stability is affected by various factors. For safety management of slopes, monitoring systems have been widely constructed along railway lines. The representative data from the systems are variations of ground profile such like ground water level and pore water pressure etc. and direct displacement measured by ground clinometer and tension wire sensor. Slopes are mainly effected by rainfall and rainfall causes the decrease of factor of safety(FOS). Because FOS varies linearly by the variation of ground water level and pore pressure, it has a weak point that could not define the time and proper warning sign to secure the safety of the train. In this study, alternative of FOS such as reliability index and probability of failure is applied to slope stability analysis introducing the reliability concept. FOS, reliability index, probability of failure and velocity of probability of failure of the slopes by variation of ground water level are investigated for setting up the specification of safety management of slopes. By executing case study of a slope(ILLO-IMSUNGLI), it is showed to be applied to specification of safety management.

Recently, an artificial beach has been constructed compensating for loss of the natural one caused by the development of coastal area, as well as serving as a location for recreational activities such as sea bathing. It is well known that some structure should be constructed to protect an artificial beach from the outflow due to wave action of the reclaimed sand. In general, dike is utilized as the structure to protect an artificial beach. And, one of the factors which may need to be taken into consideration for stability of dike on seabed foundation is the ground water behavior behind dike. However, the interrelated phenomena of nonlinear wave and ground water response have relatively little attention although these interactions are important for stability of structure and sand suction to the artificial beach. In this paper, the numerical wave tank was developed to clarify nonlinear wave, dike and ground water dynamic interaction, which can simulate the difference of ground water and mean water level. Using the developed numerical wave tank, the present study investigates how variation of ground water level influences hydrodynamic characteristics in seabed around dike and numerically simulates the wave fields, pore flow patterns, pore water pressures and vorticities according to variation of ground water level. Numerical results explain well how hydrodynamic characteristics in seabed around dike is affected by the variation of ground water level.

This study is analysis for adjacent structures and ground movement by deep excavation work. Underground Inclinometer has shown that deformation of increment is minor within to allowable limit. According to the measurements result of slope and crack for adjacent structures, a detached house showed bigger than hospital structure to deformation of increment. Variation of underground water level didn't effect so much to ground and adjacent structures movement because underground water flows in rock and didn't give the water press to propped walls. Measurement data of strut variation is within tolerance limit. Because excavation site's wall was strengthened suitably. This study will contribute in establishment of measurement standard and information-oriented construction during deep excavation in multi-layered ground including rock masses.

In this paper, using the TDR sensors, variation of soil water content changes were measured as TDR data. Then filtering technique was determined using Fourier transform. Determine the moisture content of soil and ground water level and tried to determine unsaturated zone. First, variation of water content changes were measured TDR data by indoor experiment. Then as a function of TDR data made for water content of soil. Next, through Acrylic indoor laboratory model experiments, changes in ground water levels and lateral penetration of the field conditions were reproduced in an indoor. Field applicability of the TDR sensor was demonstrated by analysis of this. TDR sensor was installed in the embankment, TDR data were measured by TDR sensor.
In this study, the variation of wetting front and ground water level at the embankment constructed in the Saemangeum area were predicted considering rainfall duration times and the slope stability analysis of the embankment was carried out according to prediction results of wetting front and ground water level. The embankment was formed by dredging soils. A suction stress, a cohesion and a frictional angle of dreding soils measured by soil tests were applied to estimate the unsaturated soil properties. According to the analysis results of the wetting front and the ground water level for various rainfall duration time, the wetting front began to descend from the upper part of embankment at the beginning time of rainfall and after 1 hour of rainfall duration time. After that, the ground water level continued to ascend as the rainfall duration time was getting longer. After rainfall, the ground water level was distributed at a certain depth, and the ground water level was gradually descending as time goes by. According to the slope stability analysis of the embankment considering the variation of the wetting front and the ground water level, the safety factor of slope was rapidly reduced as the rainfall began to infiltrate into the ground, and the minimum safety factor of slope was estimated after 24 hours of rainfall duration time. Meanwhile, the safety factor of slope was increased with regaining the matric suction in the ground after rainfall.

It is well known that the ground water level changes rapidly before and after the earthquake, and the variation of ground water level prediction is used to predict the earthquake. In this paper, we predict the ground water level in Miryang City using ANFIS algorithm for earthquake prediction. For this purpose, this paper used precipitation and temperature acquired from National Weather Service and data of underground water level from Rural Groundwater Observation Network of Korea Rural Community Corporation which is installed in Miryang city, Gyeongsangnam-do. We measure the prediction accuracy using RMSE and MAPE calculation methods. As a result of the prediction, the periodic pattern was predicted by natural factors, but the change value of ground water level was changed by other variables such as artificial factors that was not detected. To solve this problem, it is necessary to digitize the ground water level by numerically quantifying artificial variables, and to measure the precipitation and pressure according to the exact location of the observation ball measuring the ground water level.
Purpose: Recently, the ground subsidence has caused social problem, because it occurred life and economic damage. Method: Ground subsidence is different from a sink hole. Ground subsidence occurred cavities from loss of by groundwater flow, surface layer is collapsed due to relaxation and expansion. Results: According to the survey, the caused of ground subsidence are classified as ground cavities, surrounding ground relaxation and pipe joint failure. Conclution: Cavities of ground is mainly caused by cavities formed by rainfall induced infiltration of the heavy rainfall, loss of soil due to rise and fall of ground water level and repeated sewage runoff.
The unsaturated layers by rainfall infiltration are not properly reflected in construction codes to do slope design. The objective of this paper is to analyze the slope behavior according to the saturation layer increase resulted from the rainfall infiltration, to do that the laboratory slope model apparatus was adopted. From the model apparatus, the variation of water content and strength parameters of the model slope were analyzed. The safety factors of model slope was decreased, if saturation layer was increased from 3.0m to 4.5m, which means ground water level 3m selected from construction codes makes higher safety level. Also, if the ground water level is located in soil surface, the lower safety level will show up. Therefore, to make the proper slope design, the experiments and analysis of variation of saturation layer is needed.

The measured ground water behavior by TDR (time domain reflectometer) sensors were analyzed by the data filtering technique such as moving average method and Fourier transform, and the ground water level and unsaturated zone were tried to be determined numerically. At first, the variation of TDR data according to the saturation degree was measured by lab test, which is translated as a function of saturation degree. Then, changes of ground water level and lateral seepage in field conditions were simulated using acrylic pipe, and the measured data were analyzed to make calibration curve. Furthermore, TDR sensors were installed into the in-situ embankment to insure the field application. The saturation degree, unsaturated and dried zones were determined from the measured data.
This study is objected to demonstrate the spatial variability of the ground-water recharge by classifying the types of ground-water hydrographs and assessing the recharge ratio(the ratio of the rise of ground-water level to cumulative precipitation) of each type using the National Ground-water Monitoring network data. A total of 5 types were identified by factor analysis on the ground-water hydrographs nationwide. The recharge ratio of each type were estimated to be 6.5% (TYPE I), 4.1 % (TYPE II), 9.2%(TYPE III), 5.8 %(TYPE IV), 15.3 %(TYPE V) in the confidence level of 95.44% and 6% variation was estimated site by site even in the same type. The recharges of Han, Nakdong, Keum, Youngsan·Seomjin river basins were estimated as 10.0 %, 6.1 %, 8.3 %. and 6.6 % respectively. These results were consistent with the results of the existing baseflow method.
