  • This study was done to evaluate the quality of clinical nursing care using the variables of structure, process, and outcome and to analyze the relationship between the variables. This study also explored which variables are validating indicators to evaluate the quality of nursing care. The results analyzed by multiple regression showed that, generally structural variables did not contribute to the variance in outcome scores, but process variables of nursing care contributed significantly to the outcome variable of patient satisfaction. A combination of structure and process variables explained outcome variables more than structural variables alone. Also, patient satisfaction and hospital preference were significantly related to each other. Therefore, if nursing quality evaluation relies solely upon on structural variables such as number of available nurses and workload, it would be inaccurate because process variables of nursing care are strongly related to outcome variables and the two categories of structure and process variables helped to strengthen the relationships. Thus, it is important to focus on variables of structure, process, ant outcome together in evaluating nursing care quality.

  • So far in a nonparametric regression model one of the interesting problems is estimating the error variance. In this paper we propose an estimator of the mean of the squared functions which is the numerator of SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio). To estimate SNR, the mean of the squared function should be firstly estimated. Our focus is on estimating the amplitude, that is the mean of the squared functions, in a nonparametric regression using a simple linear regression model with the quadratic form of observations as the dependent variable and the function of a lag as the regressor. Our method can be extended to nonparametric regression models with multivariate functions on unequally spaced design points or clustered designed points.

  • In this talk, we will present what we believe is the state-of-the-art of the numerical modeling and simulation of the combustion processes as they relate to typical scramjet engines. The free-stream Mach number is hypersonic, but the speed is not sufficiently decelerated at the inlet/isolator, as in ramjets, so that combustion takes place under supersonic conditions. This creates some difficulties for most turbulence-combustion models. We delve into the details of these problems, by discussing the software programs that have a long track record for scramjet combustion simulation; with a focus on the accuracy of the baseline numerical methods used, the turbulence modeling/simulation approach, the comparative fidelity of the turbulence-combustion interaction models, ability to simulate premixed/non-premixed/partially-premixed, quenching/re-ignition capabilities, the numerical spark-plug method, Damkholer number regimes supported, and the effects of variable Prandtl, Schmidt, and Lewis numbers. Validation results from high-speed and low-speed combustion applications will also be presented.

  • In this paper, we focus on the pinwheel task model with a variable voltage processor with d discrete voltage/speed levels. We propose an intra-task DVS algorithm, which constructs a minimum energy schedule for k tasks in O(d+k log k) time We also give an inter-task DVS algorithm with O(d+n log n) time, where n denotes the number of jobs. Previous approaches solve this problem by generating a canonical schedule beforehand and adjusting the tasks' speed in O(dn log n) or O($n^3$) time. However, the length of a canonical schedule depends on the hyper period of those task periods and is of exponential length in general. In our approach, the tasks with arbitrary periods are first transformed into harmonic periods and then profile their key features. Afterward, an optimal discrete voltage schedule can be computed directly from those features.

  • A Low cost and variable speed brushless motor drive system with single switch per phase is presented. The motor drive is realized with a novel two-phase flux-reversal-free switched reluctance motor and a split AC two switch converter. The strategy of the controller and the converter for its realization are described. Comparisons between a split AC converter, asymmetric converter, split DC converter, single controllable switch converter, and N+1 converter are performed for its device rating, cost, switching losses and conduction losses, and converter efficiency. The split AC converter is analyzed and simulated to verify the characteristics of the converter circuitry and control feasibility and the simulation results are presented. The efficiency with various loads is numerically estimated and experimentally compared from viewpoint of subsystem and system in details. The focus of this paper is to compare the presented motor drive system to the asymmetric converter system throughout experiments and demonstrate single switch per phase converter having comparable efficiency as the asymmetric converter system.

  • Population aging and longevity have compelled major worldwide consumer markets to focus on senior citizens who exhibit a desire to nurture their appearance and obtain related products such as cosmetics. This trend signals an increasing need for in-depth research on elderly consumers in the color cosmetics market. This study identified the characteristics of seniors in the pre-elderly stage ("new seniors") based on their lifestyle and market segments. It employed online surveys with participants consisting of pre-elderly Korean women born between 1955 and 1963 who reside in the greater Seoul and Gyeonggi area. The study used SPSS 23.0 for factor analysis, reliability verification, cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncan's test, and cross-analysis. The results show that new seniors could be classified into four groups based on lifestyle: Prime Seniors, Potential Seniors, Rational Seniors, and Slump Seniors. Each group has distinct characteristics. The findings suggest that the senior market requires further segmentation and is no longer a single uniform market. This study also confirms that the lifestyles of the elderly is an instrumental variable for their segmentation.

  • In this paper, the focus on the removal noise in the binary image based on the variational Bayesian method with the Ising model. The observation and the latent variable are the degraded image and the original image, respectively. The posterior distribution is built using the Markov random field and the Ising model. Estimating the posterior distribution is the same as reconstructing a degraded image. MCMC and variational Bayesian inference are two methods for estimating the posterior distribution. However, for the sake of computing efficiency, we adapt the variational technique. When the image is restored, the iterative method is used to solve the recursive problem. Since there are three model parameters in this paper, restoration is implemented using the VECM algorithm to find appropriate parameters in the current state. Finally, the restoration results are shown which have maximum peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and evidence lower bound (ELBO).

  • Purpose: This study explores the effect of employee's growth needs strength on counterproductive work behaviors. Perceived job insecurity was also examined as a moderating variable on the relationship between the two variables. Research Design, data and methodology: This study collected 108 data samples from working individuals from South Korea. The Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and the hierarchical regression analysis were used to analyze the data. Hierarchical regression analysis was performed using SPSS 24.0. Results: Our research results indicated that employee's growth needs strength has a negative effect on counterproductive work behaviors. Perceived job insecurity moderates the relationship between the two variables. Conclusions: Organizations should focus on creating growth opportunities for employees, since facilitating employee's growth need strength will counteract the desire to engage in behaviors that can be detrimental to the organization. and its members.

  • Purpose - This paper examines the impact of labor market regulations on FDI and the production of foreign firms. Design/methodology - We use an index of employment protection along with data on the FDI and production of foreign affiliates that are provided by the OECD. Findings - The empirical results show that strict employment protection discourages both the production and initial entry of foreign firms, with its impact on production being larger than that on the initial entry decision. The result is robust to various specifications in which instrumental variable estimations are used by applying a unionization rate and a severance pay for redundancy dismissal as instruments, respectively. Therefore, policymakers should not limit their focus to tax incentives, cash grants, and relaxation of market regulations, but they should also extend their attention to labor market deregulation and decreasing non-wage cost to attract more foreign firms into their countries. Originality/value - This paper attempts to answer the question on the impact of employment protection rules on the foreign firm's decisions regarding production as well as initial entry.
