  • This study aims to develop a computerized program for analysis of the ground-supported cylindrical shell structure with step varied section and to find out its mechanical characteri- stics through application of the developed program to the analysis of a ensiled farm silo as a model structure. The thickness of wall and bottom-plate of farm silo is assumed to be step-varied and its detailed structural dimensions are presented in Tab. 1 and 2. Several numerical case studies show that sectional stresses of the sample structures are largely reduced by adopting "varied section" design technique. And, other major results ob- tained from this study are summarize4 as follows ; 1. The variation of wall-thickness has a great influence on bending stresses of wall. Ho- wever, the larger the relative thickness of bottom-plate is, the smaller the influence is. 2. The magnitude of thickness of projecting toe of bottom-plate has negligible effect on sectional stresses 3. The conventional design methodology, which assumes the bottom edge of wall as clam- ped on ground, is proved to be discarded through the numerical analysis. 4. It is found that the "varied section" design technique should get similar effects as in the case of thick bott6m-plate having uniform thickness. 5. The variation of wall-thickness has a considerable effect on the bending stresses of bo- ttom-plate. Especially, this phenomenon is very remarkable in its projecting toe. In some cases. the negative bending moment may be acted on.

  • In this paper, we propose fast motion estimation algorithm. Local statistics of a motion vector is highly correlated to motion vectors of its neighboring blocks. According to the property, block-based motion search range is adaptively determined in order to reduce unnecessary search points. Based on the determined search range, motion vector is obtained by variable step search motion estimation. Experimental results show that comparing to Full search motion estimation, the motion searching points of proposed algorithm is reduced as much as $98\%$. Moreover, PSNR and Bit Rate are almost same to Full search method.

  • Adaptive digital filtering and noise cancelling technique using a tree structured filter bank are presented to reduce a undesirable aliasing due to the decimation of filtered output and improve the performance in terms of mean-square error and the convergence speed using a aliasing canceller. A signal is split into two subband by analysis filter bank and decimated by decimator and reconstructed by interpolation technique and synthesis filter bank. A variable step-size LMS algorithm is used to improve the convergence speed in case of existing the measurement noise in desired input of filter. It is shown by computer simulation that the proposed subband structure in this paper is superior to conventional subband filter structure in terms of mean-square error and convergence speed.

  • The adaptive beam-forming is promising approach for noise reduction in hearing aids. This approach has come in the focus of interest only recently, because of the availability of new and powerful digital signal processors. The adaptation U using usually a Least Mean Squares algorithm, updates the weight vector. In this Paper, we propose a fast wavelet based adaptive algorithm using variable step size algorithm which varies adaptive constant by the change of signal environment. We compared the performance of the proposed algorithm with the known adaptive algorithm using computer simulation of multi channel adaptive bemformer in hearing aids. As the result the proposed algorithm is suitable for adaptive signal processing area using hearing aids and has advantages reducing computational complexity. And we show the beam-forming system using proposed algorithm converges stably in a sudden change of system environment.

  • In this paper, the design and implementation of echo canceller with new variable step size algorithm is discussed. The method used in the new algorithm is to periodically adopt the test function which helps an optimal coefficient tracking. This algorithm outperforms LMS and VS algorithms in convergence speed and steady state error. As the period of test function is decreased, the speed of convergence is improved, but the number of calculation is increased, then the trade off between these parameters must be considered. Simulation results show new algorithm outperforms LMS and VS algorithms in convergence rate. For the design of hardware, circuit is designed with VHDL, and synthesized with Act1 withc is a FPGA library of ActelTM in use of synovation of InterGraph$^{TM}$. Verification of the synthesized circuit is carried out with simulator DLAB. The circuit based on the algorithm which is suggested in this paper calculated 7 radix places of inary number. A simulation data for the verification is based on the data of algorithm simulation. When the same input data is applied to the both simulation, output results of circuit simulation had slight difference in compare with that of algorithm simulation. The number of used gate is about 5,500 and We have 5.53MHz in maximum frequency.y.

  • Regularized Blind Deconvolution is a problem applicable in degraded images in order to bring the original image out of blur. Multichannel blind Deconvolution considered as an optimization problem. Each step in the optimization is considered as variable splitting problem using an algorithm called Alternating Minimization Algorithm. Each Step in the Variable splitting undergoes Augmented Lagrangian method (ALM) / Bregman Iterative method. Regularization is used where an ill posed problem converted into a well posed problem. Two well known regularizers are Tikhonov class and Total Variation (TV) / L2 model. TV can be isotropic and anisotropic, where isotropic for L2 norm and anisotropic for L1 norm. Based on many probabilistic model and Fourier Transforms Image deblurring can be solved. Here in this paper to improve the performance, we have used an adaptive regularization filtering and isotropic TV model Lp norm. Image deblurring is applicable in the areas such as medical image sensing, astrophotography, traffic signal monitoring, remote sensors, case investigation and even images that are taken using a digital camera / mobile cameras.

  • We developed an algorithm to identify and determine periods of variable sources. With its robustness and high speed, it is expected to become an useful tool for surveys with large volume of data. This new scheme consists of an initial coarse. process of finding several candidate periods followed by a secondary process of much finer period search. With this multi-step approach, best candidates among statistically possible periods are produced without human supervision and also without any prior assumption on the nature of the variable star in question. We tested our algorithm with 381 stars taken from the ASAS survey and the result is encouraging. In about $76\%$ cases, our results are nearly identical as their published periods. Our algorithm failed to provide convincing periods for only about $10\%$ cases. For the remaining $14\%$, our results significantly differ from their periods. We show that, in many of these cases, our periods are superior and much closer to the true periods. However, the existence of failures, and also periods sometimes worse than manually controlled results, indicates that this algorithm needs further improvement. Nevertheless, the present experiment shows that this is a positive step toward a fully automated period analysis for future variability surveys.

  • Three-dimensional finite-difference simulation of earthquake ground motion is performed using a locally variable time-step (LVTS) scheme matching with discontinuous grids. Discontinuous grids in three directions and extension of the discontinuous grids' boundary to the free-surface in the LVTS scheme minimize the cost of both the computational memory and the CPU time for models like the localized sedimentary basin. A simplified model of sedimentary basin is dealt to show the feasibility and efficiency of the LVTS scheme. The basin parameters are examined to understand the main characteristics on ground-motion response in the basin. The results show that the seismic energy is concentrated on a marginal area of the basin far from the source. This focusing effect is mainly due to the constructive interference of the direct S-wave with the basin-edge induced surface waves. The ground-motion amplification over the deepest part of the basin is relatively lower than that above the shallow basin edge. Therefore the ground-motion amplification may be more related to the source azimuth or the direction of the incident waves into the basin rather than the depth of it.

  • By knowledge-based approach, the SDG(Signed Directed Graph) is automatically synthesized, which is commonly used to represent the causal effects between process variables. Automatic synthesis of SDG is progressed by two steps : (1)inference step uses knowledge base and (2)verification step uses Loop-Verifier. First, Topology and Knowledge Base are constructed by using the information on equipment. And then, Primary-SDG is synthesized by Character Pattern Matching between Variable-Relation-Representation generated by using Topology and Variable-Tendency-Data contained in Knowledge Base. Finally, a modified SDG is made after the Primary-SDG is verified by Loop-Verifier.

  • Underwater Acoustic Channels (UAC) have inherent sparse characteristics. The traditional adaptive equalization techniques do not utilize this feature to improve the performance. In this paper we consider the Variable Adaptive Subgradient Projection (V-ASPM) method to derive a new sparse equalization algorithm based on the Minimum Symbol Error Rate (MSER) criterion. Compared with the original MSER algorithm, our proposed scheme adds sparse matrix to the iterative formula, which can assign independent step-sizes to the equalizer taps. How to obtain such proper sparse matrix is also analyzed. On this basis, the selection scheme of the sparse matrix is obtained by combining the variable step-sizes and equalizer sparsity measure. We call the new algorithm Sparse-Control Proportional-MSER (SC-PMSER) equalizer. Finally, the proposed SC-PMSER equalizer is embedded into a turbo receiver, which perform turbo decoding, Digital Phase-Locked Loop (DPLL), time-reversal receiving and multi-reception diversity. Simulation and real-field experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance in convergence speed and Bit Error Rate (BER).
