Many studies have been performed for the elimination of speed and position sensors which require the additional mounting space, reduce the reliability in harsh environments and increase the cost of a motor. This paper investigates an improved sliding mode observer for the sensorless speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The proposed control strategy is the sliding mode observer with a variable boundary layer for a low-chattering and fast-response control. The proposed algorithm is verified through the simulation and experimentation.
The model reference adaptive control algorithm (MRAC), which is one of the methods for controlling the speed of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), has been developed using the autoregressive (ARMAX) method. Applying this algorithm to a microprocessor which is used in driving PMSM with PI controller, it has been proved that the response speed of the reference input follows closely that of the reference model. It has also been proved by experiments that the quick speed response without over-shoot could be obtained for the motor system with variable parameters.
This paper presents experimental results and its assessment of a variable-speed wind power generation system (VSWPGS) using permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and boost chopper circuit (BCC). Experimental results are obtained by a test bench with a wind turbine emulator (WTE). WTE reproduces the behaviors of a windmill by using servo motor drives. The mechanical torque references to drive the servo motor are calculated from the windmill wing profile, wind velocity, and windmill rotational speed. VSWPGS using PMSG and BCC has three speed control modes for the level of wind velocity to control the rotational speed of the wind turbine. The control mode for low wind velocity regulates an armature current of generator with BCC. The control mode for middle wind velocity regulates a DC link voltage with a vector-controlled inverter. The control mode for high wind velocity regulates a pitch angle of the wind turbine with a pitch angle control system. The hybrid of three control modes extends the variable-speed range. BCC simplifies the maintenance of VSWPGS while improving reliability. In addition, VSWPGS using PMSG and BCC saves cost compared with VSWPGS using a PWM converter.
This paper propose a variable parameter estimations for variable over current load of five-phase squirrel-cage induction motor(IM) to servo control system. In order to high performance control of AC motor using a field oriented control(FOC) and direct torque control(DTC) algorithm, there are required precise motor parameters for slip calculation, flux observer, controller gain, torque command of current components, rotor position, speed estimation, and so on. We are suggest a analyzed estimation results of the motor parameters that developing five-phase squirrel-cage IM have a stator of concentrated winding for experimental within variable over current load at rated input frequency. There are results of stator winding measurement, no-load test, locked-rotor test, variable over current load test, and estimated parameters of equivalent circuits using manufactured experimental apparatus by IEEE Standard Test Procedure for Polyphase Induction Motors and Generators 112-2004.
Many kinds of speed sensorless control system of induction motor had been developed. But it is difficult to implement at the real system because of complex algorithm and equations. This paper investigates a novel speed sensorless control of induction motor using neural networks. The proposed control strategy is based on neural networks using stator current and output of neural model based on state observer. The errors between the stator current and the output of neural model are back-propagated to adjust the rotor speed, so that adaptive state variable will coincide with the desired state variable. This algorithm may overcome several shortages of conventional model, such as integrator problems, small EMF at low speed and relatively large sensitivity of stator resistance variation. Also, this paper presents a newly developed optimal equation about the momentum constant and the learning rate. The proposed algorithms are verified through simulation.
This paper investigates a novel speed identification of induction motor using 2 layer neural networks. The proposed control strategy is based on neural networks using model of full order state observer. in the proposed neural networks system the error between the desired variable and the adaptive variable is back-propagated to adjust the rotor speed, So that the adaptive variable will coincide with the desired variable. The proposed control algorithm is verified through simulation and experiment using th digital signal processor of TMS320C31
This paper presents the implementation and experimental investigation of sensorless speed control for a variable-speed PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) in super-high speed compressor operation. The proposed control scheme consists of two different sensorless algorithms to guarantee the reliable starting operation in low speed region and full torque characteristics using the vector control in high speed region. An automatic switching technique between two control modes is proposed to minimize the speed and torque pulsation during the switching instant of control mode. A testing system of 3.3㎾ PMSM has been built and 90% load test results at 7000r/min are presented to examine the feasibility of proposed sensorless control scheme.
Switched reluctance motor drive system is well known as a variable speed drive system because it has a simple motor structure and a simple driving circuit. Widely slotted photo interrupter has been investigated as a position sensor for SRM speed control because it has advantages of low cost and simple structure. However it has low resolution and it produces dead-time signal. This paper studies variable speed SRM drive system with slotted photo-interrupter. Controller in this study is constructed by using fuzzy controller that covers system nonlinearities and small perturbations in sufficiency. The performance of this system is evaluated through computer simulation and experiment results.

The sensorless AC motor drive is a popular topic of study due to the cost and reliability of speed and position sensors. Most sensorless algorithms are based on the mathematical modeling of motors including electrical variables such as phase current and voltage. Therefore, the accuracy of such variables largely affects the performance of the sensorless AC motor drive. However, the output voltage of the SVPWM-VSI, which is widely used in sensorless AC motor drives, has considerable errors. In particular, the SVPWM-VSI is error-prone in the low speed range because the constant DC link voltage causes poor resolution in a low output voltage command and the output voltage is distorted due to dead time and voltage drop. This paper investigates a novel high-performance strategy for overcoming these problems in a sensorless ac motor drive. In this paper, a variation of the DC link voltage and a direct compensation for dead time and voltage drop are proposed. The variable DC link voltage leads to an improved resolution of the inverter output voltage, especially in the motor's low speed range. The direct compensation for dead time and voltage drop directly calculates the duration of the switching voltage vector without the modification of the reference voltage and needs no additional circuits. In addition, the proposed strategy reduces a current ripple, which deteriorates the accuracy of a monitored current and causes torque ripple and additional loss. Simulation and experimentation have been performed to verify the proposed strategy.
