  • This paper presents a methodology for identifying the cutter runout geometry in end milling process. Cutter runout is common but undesirable phenomenon in multi-tooth machining because it introduces variable chip loading to insert which results in a accelerated tool wear. amplification of force variation and hence enlargement vibration amplitude From understanding of chip load change kinematics, the analytical cutting force convolution model was formulated as the angular domain convolution model was formulated as the angular domain convolution of three dynamic cutting force component functions. By virtue of the convolution integration property, the frequency domain expression of the local cutting forces and the chip width density of the cutter. Experimental study is presented to validate the analytical model. This study provides the in-process monitoring and compensation of dynamic cutter runout to improve machining tolerance and surface quality for industrial application.

A Methodology for Fatigue Reliability Assessment Considering Stress Range Distribution Truncation

  • Not all loads contribute to fatigue crack propagation in the welded detail of steel bridges when they are subjected to variable amplitude loading. For fatigue assessment, therefore, non-contributing stress cycles should be truncated. However, stress range truncation is not considered during typical fatigue reliability assessment. When applying the first order reliability method, stress range truncation occurs mismatch between the expected number of cycles to failure and the number of cycles obtained at the time of evaluation, because the expected number of cycles only counts the stress cycles that contribute to fatigue crack growth. Herein, we introduce a calibration factor to coordinate the expected number of cycles to failure to the equivalent value which includes both contributing and non-contributing stress cycles. The effectiveness of stress range truncation and the proposed calibration factor was validated via case studies.

강철도교의 활하중-사하중 비에 따른 확률기반 피로수명 평가 (Probabilistic Fatigue Life Evaluation of Steel Railway Bridges according to Live-Dead Loads Ratio)

  • 강철도교에 대한 확률기반 피로 수명 평가를 위한 많은 연구들이 그간 있어 왔지만, 대부분 상대적으로 단순한 피로 균열 진전 모델을 기반으로 한 연구들이었다. 이 모델은 최소 응력이 0이고 일정한 응력변동 진폭을 가정하기 때문에, 철도교의 피로수명 평가에는 적합하지 않다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 보다 고도화된 균열 진전 모델을 이용해 강철도교의 피로 수명을 평가하는 새로운 확률기반 기법을 제안하였다. 또한 이 기법은 철도교에서 흔히 발생하는 다양한 하중 변동 진폭을 rainflow cycle counting algorithm을 사용해 고려할 수 있어, 보다 현실적인 피로 수명을 평가할 수 있다. 제안된 기법을 강철도교 예제 모델에 적용하여 피로 수명을 주요 부재 및 시스템에 대해 평가하였다. 또한 다양한 활하중-사하중 비가 피로 수명에 끼치는 영향을 분석하였으며, 그 결과 활하중-사하중 응력 비가 0에서 5/6까지 증가함에 따라 부재와 시스템 수준 모두에서 피로 수명이 30년 내외까지 줄어드는 것을 확인하였다.

외팔보 형식의 하중진폭 변화에 대한 Al 합금의 관통균열 거동에 관한 연구 (A study on the through crack behavior of aluminum alloy with cantilever beam type under variable load)

  • This paper examines the crack growth behavior of 7075-T651 and 5052-H32 aluminum alloy under high-low block loading condition. The cantilever beam type specimen with a chevron notch is used in this study. The crack growth and closure ae investigated by compliance method. The applied stress ratios are R=0.15, 0.0, -0.15 and R=-0.15, 0.0, 0.15. The crack growth rate was found to increase as the load amplitude increases. However,${\bigtriangleup}K_eff$ was almost independent on the stress ratio. The experimental constants of 7075-T651 and 5052-H32 in Paris law were c`=1-1.3${\times}{10^-7},m`=3~3.2 and c`=4~6{\times}{10^-9}, m`=4.3-4.8$, respectively. $K_op$ of 7075-T651 and 5052-H32 becomes smaller as the stress ratio decreases. It seems that the crack closure affects $K_op$.

패치로 보강된 구형 복합재료 패널의 후좌굴 거동 및 진동 특성해석 (Post-buckling Behavior and Vibration Characteristics of Patched Reinforced Spherical Composite Panels)

  • 토탈 라그랑지안 방법과 변형율을 가정한 Hellinger-Reissner 원리에 기초한 유한요소법을 이용하여 패치로 보강된 구형 복합재료 쉘의 후좌굴 거동 및 진동 특성을 살펴보았다. 패치 요소는 따로 다른 유한요소를 사용하지 않고 쉘의 중앙면과 다른 기준점을 잡아 두께 변수를 택하여 정식화를 하였다. 비선형 해법으로 원통형 호-길이법을 적용하였고, 후 좌굴 진동은 미소 진폭을 갖는다고 가정하였다. 구형 쉘 패넬에서 패치가 비선형 거동 및 진동수에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였고, 그 결과 패치는 하중지지도를 개선시키킨다. 패치로 보강된 패널의 1차 고유진동수는 등가 패널에 비하여 낮으나, 하중을 받는 경우 1차 고유진동수는 급격히 감소하지 않았다.

  • This paper presents a methodology for real-time detecting and identifying the runout geometry of an end mill. Form understanding of chip load change kinematics, the analytical sutting force model was formulated as the angular domain convolution of three dynamic cutting force component functions. By virtue of the convolution integration property, the frequency domain expression of the total cutting forces can be given as the algebraic multiplication of the Fourier transforms of the local cutting forces and the chip width density of the cutter. Experimental study are presented to validata the analytical model. This study provides the in-process monitoring and compensation of dynamic cutter runout to improve machining tolerance tolerance and surface quality for industriql application.

선체 용접부의 균열진전 및 피로수명예측에 관한 연구(II) (A Study of Crack Propagation and Fatigue Life Prediction on Welded Joints of Ship Structure (II))

  • The fatigue life of ship structure under cyclic loading condition is made up of crack initiation and propagation stages. For a welding member in ship structure, the fatigue crack propagation life is more important than the fatigue crack initiation life. To calculate precisely the fatigue crack propagation life at the critical welding location, the knowledge of the residual stress sensitivity on the fatigue strength is necessary. In this study, thermo elastic-plastic analysis was conducted in order to examine the effect of residual stress on the fatigue crack propagation life. Also the fatigue crack propagation lives considering residual stress were calculated using fatigue crack growth code, AFGROW, on the basis of fracture mechanics. AFGROW is widely used for fatigue crack growth predictions under constant and variable amplitude loading. The reliability of AFGROW on the fatigue of ship structure was confirmed by the comparison of the estimated results with the fatigue propagation test results.

면외변형 구속에 따른 강재슬릿댐퍼의 구조성능에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Structural Performance of Steel Slit Damper According to Restrained Out-of-plane Deformation )

  • 본 연구에서는 강재 슬릿댐퍼를 대상으로 하여 면외 변형을 구속할 수 있는 보완상세를 제시하고, 제안상세 적용 유무와 댐퍼의 형상비를 변수로 하여 일정진폭 가력실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과에 따라 제안상세가 적용된 슬릿댐퍼의 반복이력은 설정된 변수 범위에서 모두 안정적인 방추형의 이력거동을 나타내었으며 종국거동까지 댐퍼의 면외변형은 관찰되지 않았다. 누적변형각 분석을 통해 제안상세가 적용된 댐퍼 시스템은 대조군에 비해 월등히 큰 소성변형능력을 확보할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 이러한 구조적 효과(구속패널효과)는 슬릿댐퍼의 형상비가 작을수록 크게 나타났다. 관련 국외기준을 참고하여 제안상세 적용유무에 따른 슬릿댐퍼의 피로곡선을 작성하고 예측곡선 제시를 위한 매개변수를 도출하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 향 후 다양한 종류의 제진장치의 구조성능에 대한 정량적인 비교가 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

운행특성을 고려한 철도차량 감속기의 피로해석 (Fatigue Analysis of Reduction Gears Unit in Rolling Stock Considering Operating Characteristics)

  • 철도차량의 안전성을 확보하기위해서는 견인성능 및 속도의 변동성을 고려하여 감속기의 피로해석에 관한 연구를 수행하는 것이 중요하다. 본 논문은 고속철도차량 감속기 기어의 변동하중하에서 피로파괴에 대하여 준정적 유한요소해석과 선형 Miner's Rule에 의한 내구성해석을 수행하였다. 해석을 위한 변동하중이력은 열차견인성능곡선과 상업운전조건에서 운전선도를 기초로 MSC.ADAMS의 동역학 해석에 의하여 구축하였다. 또한 감속기 피로수명은 기어표면의 침탄부 효과를 고려한 유한요소모델을 사용하여 변형률-수명접근법에 의하여 예측하였다. 해석결과로부터 급출발에 의한 빈번한 높은 기동토크와 정차역수의 증가는 철도차량 감속기 기어수명을 감소시킴을 알 수 있었다.

Experimental Method for Durability Evaluation of a Chisel Mounted on a Composite Working Implement

  • Purpose: A chisel mounted on working implement, such as agricultural machinery used in irregular farming conditions, is subjected to highly variable fatigue loading during work. To ensure the safety of the chisel on a working implement for the duration of its service life, fatigue testing must be performed with the proper fatigue test load conditions. In this study, working loads for a chisel were developed by reconstructing loads from strain gage data collected during field tests and used to conduct fatigue tests on the chisel component. Methods: FE analysis with nCode software was utilized to select the proper quantity and locations of strain gages for load measurements. A fatigue test was performed to experimentally verify the fatigue strength of the chisel and to evaluate the validity of the load history developed with the load reconstruction technique. Results: A strain history for the chisel was obtained from data collected during field tests. The data was filtered for the 14-16 km/h speed range, connected, and merged. The chisel load history was developed using the load reconstruction technique. The resulting load history was expressed as a load spectrum using the rain-flow counting method. Conclusions: A fatigue test was conducted on a chisel under a constant load condition with an equivalent load amplitude and number of cycles, as calculated by Miner's Rule for linear damage accumulation. During the fatigue test, there were no cracks at any position. It is concluded that the fatigue test method proposed in this study can be utilized successfully as a durability evaluation method for the chisel.
