For the improvement of coding efficiency, the H.264 standard uses new coding tools. Using these coding tools, H.264 has achieved significant improvements from rate-distortion point of view. The adoption of these tools enables a macroblock in H.264 to have more information, sixteen motion vectors, four reference frames and a macroblock mode. In this paper, we present an efficient temporal error concealment algorithm by using not only motion vectors and reference frames but also macroblock mode of neighbor macroblocks. Our algorithm conceals the macroblock error with variable sizes, $16{\times}16,\;16{\times}8,\;8{\times}16,\;8{\times}8$ depending on the macroblock modes of neighbor macroblocks. Simulation results show that the proposed method increase the objective quality regardless of bit-rate and block error rate.
This paper proposes a conditional replenishment algorithm (CRA) to improve the visual quality (where spatial resolutions of the left and right views are mismatched) of a hybrid stereoscopic 3DTV that is based on the ATSC-M/H standard. So as to generate an enhanced view, the CRA is to choose the better substitute among a disparity-compensated view with high quality and a simply interpolated view. The CRA generates a disparity map that includes modes and disparity vectors as additional information. It also employs a quad-tree structure with variable block size by considering the spatial correlation of disparity vectors. In addition, it takes advantage of the disparity map used in a previous frame to keep the amount of additional information as small as possible. The simulation results show that the proposed CRA can successfully improve the peak signal-to-noise ratio of a poor-quality view and consequently have a positive effect on the subjective quality of the resulting 3D view.
In this study, we allocate bits by quantizing these fractal coefficients through a quantizer which can extract the probability distribution. In the coding process of IFS, a variable size block method is used to shorten the coding time and improve the compression ratio. In the future, it will be necessary to further improve the coding time and the compression rate while maintaining the best image quality in the fractal coding process.
H.264/AVC is the international video coding standard which has significant improvements of coding efficiency. ITU-T(International Telecommunication Union-Telecommunication standardization sector) and MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) adopts various complex coding tool such as variable block size motion, multiple reference frames, quarter-pel motion estimation/compensation (ME/MC) and rate-distortion(RD) optimization, etc. H.264 reference model employs complex mode decision technique based on RD optimization which requires high computational complexity. In this paper, we propose an efficient coding mode decision based on the cost distribution of RD in the macroblock coding mode sequence. Simulation results show that the proposed method reduces encoding time by 34% on average and save the number of computing RD cost by 82%.

In the whole information technology area, the protection of information from hacking or tapping becomes a very serious issue. Therefore, the more effective, convenient and secure methods are required to make the safe operation. Encryption algorithms are known to be computationally intensive. They consume a significant amount of computing resources such as CPU time and memory. In this paper we propose the scalable encryption scheme with four criteria, the compression of plaintext, variable size of block, selectable round and software optimization. We have tested our scheme by c++. Experimental results show that our scheme achieves the faster execution speed of encryption/decryption.
Broadcasting services such as multi/single channel HDTV and 3DTV/2DTV use a multi-channel encoder that changes the bitrate and composition of the video service depending on the time. However, this type of multi-channel encoder could cause a longer latency owing to the variable bitrate and relatively bigger size of the buffers, which results in the same delay as in 3DTV even for a conventional DTV service. On the other hand, systems built based on separate encoders, each of which is optimized for the target service, might not have such latency problems. Nevertheless, there might be a distortion problem in the image and sound at the time of a switchover between two encoders with different output bitrates and group of picture structures. This paper proposes a system that can realize a seamless video service conversion using two different video encoders optimized for each video service. An overall functional description of the video service change control server, which is a main control block for the proposed system, is also provided. The experiment results confirm the seamless switchover and reduced broadcasting latency of DTV services compared with a broadcasting system composed of a multi-channel encoder system.
The H.264/AVC video coding standard performs inter prediction using variable block sizes to improve coding efficiency. Since we predict not only the motion of homogeneous regions but also the motion of non-homogeneous regions accurately using variable block sizes, we can reduce residual information effectively. However, each motion vector should be transmitted to the decoder. In low bit rate environments, motion vector information takes approximately 40% of the total bitstream. Thus, motion vector competition was proposed to reduce the amount of motion vector information. Since the size of the motion vector difference is reduced by motion vector competition, it requires only a small number of bits for motion vector information. However, we need to send the corresponding index of the best motion vector predictor for decoding. In this paper, we propose a new codeword table based on the phased-in code to encode the index of motion vector predictor efficiently. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm reduces the average bit rate by 7.24% for similar PSNR values, and it improves the average image quality by 0.36dB at similar bit rates.
Concrete structures such as bridges, pavement, and offshore structures are normally subjected to repeated load. Because highway and airfield pavements are to resist tension in bending, fatigue failure behavior is very important the fatigue life of materials. Therefore, in this paper was carried according to the fatigue test method and experiment variables for pavement concrete. The fatigue tests were applied split tension($150{\times}75$ in size) and flexural($150mm{\times}150mm{\times}550mm$ in size) beam fatigue test method. Major experimental variable in the fatigue tests in order to consideration of fatigue life were conducted loading frequency of 1, 5, 10, 20Hz and loading shape of block, sine, triangle and moisture condition of dry and wet condition and curing age of 28day and 56day. The test results show that the effect of loading frequency increasing the frequency increased fatigue life, decreased significant at frequencies below 200 cycles. The effect of loading wave form on fatigue life show that a block decreased, triangular increased in comparison with sine. The effect of moisture condition decreased in wet condition in comparison with dry condition. The effect of curing age increased in 564ays in comparison with 28day.
In H.264/AVC, 4$\times$4 block transform is used for intra and inter prediction instead of 8$\times$8 block transform. Using small block size coding, H.264/AVC obtains high temporal prediction efficiency, however, it has limitation in utilizing spatial redundancy. Motivated on these points, we propose a multi-dimensional transform which achieves both the accuracy of temporal prediction as well as effective use of spatial redundancy. From preliminary experiments, the proposed multi-dimensional transform achieves higher energy compaction than 2-D DCT used in H.264. We designed an integer-based transform and quantization coder for multi-dimensional coder. Moreover, several additional methods for multi-dimensional coder are proposed, which are cube forming, scan order, mode decision and updating parameters. The Context-based Adaptive Variable-Length Coding (CAVLC) used in H.264 was employed for the entropy coder. Simulation results show that the performance of the multi-dimensional codec appears similar to that of H.264 in lower bit rates although the rate-distortion curves of the multi-dimensional DCT measured by entropy and the number of non-zero coefficients show remarkably higher performance than those of H.264/AVC. This implies that more efficient entropy coder optimized to the statistics of multi-dimensional DCT coefficients and rate-distortion operation are needed to take full advantage of the multi-dimensional DCT. There remains many issues and future works about multi-dimensional coder to improve coding efficiency over H.264/AVC.

A compact antenna switch module for GSM/DCS dual band applications based on multilayer low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) substrate is presented. Its size is $4.5{\times}3.2{\times}0.8 mm^3$ and insertion loss is lower than 1.0 dB at Rx mode and 1.2 dB at Tx mode. To verify the stability of the developed module to the process window, each block that is diplexer, LPF's and bias circuit is measured by probing method in the variation with the thickness of ceramic layer and the correlation between each block is quantified by calculating the VSWR In the mean while, two types of bias circuits -lumped and distributed - are compared. The measurement of each block and the calculation of VSWR give good information on the behavior of full module. The reaction of diplexer to the thickness is similar to those of LPF's and bias circuit, which means good relative matching and low value of VSWR, so total insertion loss is maintained in quite wide range of the thickness of ceramic layer at both band. And lumped type bias circuit has smaller insertion itself and better correspondence with other circuit than distributed stripline structure. Evaluated ceramic module adopting lumped type bias circuit has low insertion loss and wider stability region of thickness over than 6um and this can be suitable for the mass production. Stability characterization by probing method can be applied widely to the development of ceramic modules with embedded passives in them.
