  • This study proposes a value based service design (VBSD) approach using Kano's model and QFD. Key quality factors and key cost factors are identified, evaluated and then incorporated to produce customer value index (CVI) and provider value index (PVI) which are together used to determine the four value strategy zones. Each value strategy zone suggests its own appropriate service development strategy based on its corresponding CVI and PVI characteristics such as maintaining current service, reducing costs, raising quality or eliminating/creating services. A camping car service design case is applied to this study, which shows the practical contribution of this VBSD approach.

  • This study is a theoretical exploration of project-based service-learning and its application in designing pre-dental curricula. As a response to the limitation of community service courses, service-learning has been implemented as pedagogy in higher education practices. Service-learning connects service and learning by engaging students in activities that address community needs with intentionally designed learning opportunities while adding value to and transforming both service and learning. Project-based service-learning is an extended and more active version of service-learning. Whereas service activities are arranged by instructors in the original service-learning, project-based service-learning provides students with opportunities for exploring problems and root causes on site and then devising and implementing solutions of their own using their talents and creativity. This study proposes a theoretical approach to project-based service-learning and suggests six design components, namely, related curriculum, reflection, reciprocity, service and community engagement, evaluation and recognition, and creative problem solving. Based on the components, 20 design strategies are formulated. The exploration is aimed to provide design guides for professionals attempting to implement project-based service-learning in higher education.

We focus on the role of customer's perception of service brand on the customer value creation process. Research design, data, and methodology - This study used single cross-sectional design and 137 airline passengers as respondents using a convenience random sampling. We distributed the online questionnaires by email address. The empirical setting for this research is airline service in Indonesia with a consideration that airline service has the useful context for this research as the service delivery process involve extensive customer interactions with the airline and its employees. We then analyzed the data using multiple regression (step-wise) method to fulfill the research objectives. Results - Using the step-wise regression method, the result shows that the influential factors to create customer value are cost and company image. The result suggests a company to improve its costs components and its company image in order to increase the customer value. Conclusions - The research shows that costs play a critical role, and completed with the company image to form the customer value variable. This shows that mostly customer formed their value based on costs they sacrificed. Mainly, this evaluation is monetary cost based, while Indonesian customers tend to have a high value for money demands.

  • Purpose In 2016, the market size of mobile(m-) shopping goes beyeond more than half of a total of online shopping. People use smartphones as the main device for m-commerce. Under the circmustances, this study attempts to address why people prefer to use smartphone-based m-commerce. In other words, it is necessary to understand the main value that smartphone-based m-commerce creates. Drawing on the studies of consumption value, this study focuses on utilitarian value in predicting customers' continuance intention in the context of smartphone-based m-commerce, recognizing that utilitarian value is a key extrinsic motivation in the goal-oriented, performance-oriented shopping contexts. Furthermore, this study identifies factors affecting customers' utilitarian value from the perspective of benefits and costs, following the notion that it represents the result of evaluating a trade-off of benefits and costs caused by smartphone-based m commerce. More specifically, in this study, ubiquitous service, location-based service (LBS), transaction speed, and price utility belong to the benefit dimension, whereas technology anxiety and cognitive effort belong to the cost dimension. Design/methodology/approach To test the proposed hypotheses, the study conducted partial least squares (PLS) analysis with a total of 294 data collected on users with experience in smartphone-based m-commerce. Findings The results show that first, utilitarian value is increased by the benefits, such as ubiquitous service, transaction speed, and price utility. However, LBS has no direct effect on utilitarian value. Second, the noteworthy finding is that ubiquitous service and LBS greatly increase transaction speed. Third, technology anxiety and cognitive effort considered as the cost dimension are negatively associated with utilitarian value but their impacts on it are non-significant. Finally, the results support the argument that utilitarian value is a determinant of continuance intention. Overall, the findings imply that utilitarian value greatly depends on the peception on benefits rather than the aspect of cost in smartphone-based m-commerce. Overall, the findings offer new insight into the studies of m-commerce by considering and verifying the impacts of its benefits and costs simultaneously.
