The Development of Network-based Telemetry System for Railway Catenary Inspection (전차선로 검측을 위한 네트워크 기반 델레메트리 시스템 개발)

  • With increasing interest in the reduction of cost for operation and maintenance of overhead catenary system, various methods of condition monitoring have been developed. In this paper, we proposed network-based telemetry system for condition monitoring in railway and acquired data from any kind of sensor in catenary line and structure at high voltage. This development gives the solution for online condition monitoring in railway. To check the validity of our approach in terms of application, we realized network-based telemetry System.

A Study on the Performance Improvement and Simplification of the Modulator for Vehicle Stability Control System (차량 안정성 제어 시스템의 모듈레이터 성능개선 및 단순화에 관한 연구)

  • This study carries out the performance improvement and simplification of hydraulic modulator that plays an important role in vehicle stability control systems. The mathematical models for each component of a modulator, such as pump, wheel cylinder, check and solenoid valve, accumulator, damper are derived in detail. All the mathematical models are combined to form a modulator system and implemented through a computer program, which can be controlled by a user friendly GUI. To verity the simulation, comparison between simulation and experiments has been made. After the verification of the validity of the simulation, the effects of the design parameters of the modulator on the wheel cylinder pressure is investigated. The results show that the modulator without MPA has advantage in early time pressure rise rate, and it can be simplified.

A Study on the Whirling Critical Speeds of Marine Propeller Shafts (선박 추진축의 선회임계속도에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper the modelling procedure and analysis technique for the prediction of accurate critical speeds of marine propeller shafts are suggested. As a solution method the transfer matrix method is employed to calculate the critical speeds, which are correspond to natural frequencies of the shaft in lateral vibration, and whirling responses. Furthermore, in order to check the validity of the simple prediction formulae, such as Jasper's formula and Panagopulos's formula, numerical calculations were performed. From the numerical results it was found that the critical speed of the propeller shaft is sensitive to the position and the supporting conditions of journal bearings.

Polarimetric Measurement of Jones Matrix of a Twisted Nematic Liquid Crystal Spatial Light Modulator

  • A polarimetric experimental method was developed to determine the Jones matrix elements of transparent optical materials without sign ambiguity. A set of polarization dependent transmittance data of the samples was measured with polarizer - sample - analyzer system and another set of data was measured with polarizer - sample - quarter-wave plate - analyzer. Two data sets were compared and mathematically analyzed to obtain the correct signs of the elements of the matrix. The Jones matrix elements of a quarter-wave plate were determined to check the validity of the method. The experimentally obtained matrix elements of the quarter-wave plate were consistent with the theoretical expectations. The same method was applied to obtain the Jones matrix elements of a twisted nematic liquid crystal panel.

  • As the artificial intelligence technology has developed recently, researches on chatbots that provide information and contents desired by users through an interactive interface have become active. Since chatbots require a variety of natural language processing technology and domain knowledge including typos and slang, it is currently limited to develop chatbots that can carry on daily conversations in a general-purpose domain. In this study, we propose an artificial intelligence chatbot that can provide real-time public traffic information and route information. The proposed chatbot has an advantage that it can understand the intention and requirements of the user through the conversation on the messenger platform without map application.

  • In this paper, we present a certificate management platform for performance assessment during recruitment using blockchain. Applicants are awarded certificates according to a predetermined level of progress based on their performances. All certificates are stored on a recruitment management platform that serves as an environment for storing and presenting all awarded certificates. The hashed information of all the certificates are stored in the blockchain, and once stored, the contents cannot be tampered with. Therefore, anyone can check the validity of the certificates using this blockchain. Our proposed platform will be useful for recruitment and application management, career management, and personal history maintenance.

A study on optimizing the electrical load analysis for modifying the avionics equipment in an aged aircraft

  • In the management of aged aircraft, used avionics equipment is replaced with new ones to improve the performance and extend the life cycle of the aircraft. In this case, considering airworthiness, it is necessary to check whether the aircraft has sufficient electricity in the electric generator or the electrical distribution system, in accordance with the maximum electricity consumption of the new avionics equipment. Accordingly, this paper reviews a few airworthiness standards and guidelines associated with the electrical load analysis when an avionics equipment is upgraded in an aged aircraft, and proposes an optimization method for the electrical load analysis. In addition, it verifies the validity of the proposed method via the QFD theory, and is currently available for upgrading the performance of aged aircraft.

Stochastic structures of world's death counts after World War II

  • This paper analyzes death counts after World War II of several countries to identify and to compare their stochastic structures. The stochastic structures that this paper entertains are three structural time series models, a local level with a random walk model, a fixed local linear trend model and a local linear trend model. The structural time series models assume that a time series can be formulated directly with the unobserved components such as trend, slope, seasonal, cycle and daily effect. Random effect of each unobserved component is characterized by its own stochastic structure and a distribution of its irregular component. The structural time series models use the Kalman filter to estimate unknown parameters of a stochastic model, to predict future data, and to do filtering data. This paper identifies the best-fitted stochastic model for three types of death counts (Female, Male and Total) of each country. Two diagnostic procedures are used to check the validity of fitted models. Three criteria, AIC, BIC and SSPE are used to select the best-fitted valid stochastic model for each type of death counts of each country.

Numerical method for the strength of two-dimensional concrete struts

  • For the reliable strut-and-tie model (STM) design of disturbed regions of concrete members, structural designers must accurately determine the strength of concrete struts to check the strength conditions of a selected STM el and the anchorage of reinforcing bars in nodal zones. In this study, the author proposed a consistent numerical method for strut strength, applicable to all two-dimensional STMs. The proposed method includes the effects of a biaxial stress state associated with tensile strains in reinforcing bars crossing a strut, deviation angle between strut orientation and compressive principal stress flow, and degree of confinement provided by reinforcement. The author examined the method's validity through the STM prediction of the ultimate strengths of 517 reinforced concrete (RC) deep beams, 24 RC panels, and 258 RC corbels, all tested to failure.

A Study on Plate Bending Analysis Using Boundary Element Method

  • This study presents a method for level ice-structure interaction analysis to estimate the fatigue damage of arctic structures by applying plate theory to the behavior of level ice. The boundary element method (BEM), which incurs a lower computational cost than the finite element method (FEM), was introduced to solve the plate bending problem. The BEM formulation was performed by applying the BEM to plate theory. Finally, to check the validity of the proposed method, the BEM results and FEM results obtained using the ABAQUS commercial software were compared. The response results of the BEM analysis agreed well with those of the FEM analysis. Based on the results of the analysis, the BEM approach is considered to be very powerful in level ice-structure interaction analysis for estimating level ice-induced fatigue damage. Further work is being conducted to perform level ice fracture analysis based on the stress field calculated using the boundary element method.
