  • Airborne dust and asbestos fiber concentrations were determined in subway stations located in Seoul area. Two stations, such as Eulchiro 4-Ka Station of Line #2, constructed during a period of 1980-1984 and Hyehwa Station of Line #4, opened in 1985, were selected. The results of the study are as follows. 1. Daily time-weighted average (TWA) concentrations of airborne dusts from 07:00 to 20:00 hours in Line #2 and Line #4 were 0.43$\pm$0.08 mg/m$^3$ and 0.37$\pm$0.12 mg/m$^3$, respectively. Thus, the dust levels in Line #2 were significantly higher than the levels in Line #4 (p < 0.05). 2. Dust levels in the morning (07:00-11:00 hours), noon (11:00-16:00 hours) and in the evening (16:00-20:00 hours) in Line #2 were 0.47$\pm$0.17 mg/m$^3$, 0.37$\pm$0.08 mg/m$^3$, and 0.46$\pm$0.07 mg/m$^3$ respectively. Thus, dust levels in the morning and evening (i.e., during rush hours) were significantly higher than levels in the noon (p < 0.02). However, there was no such difference in dust levels by time in Line #4. 3. Airborne total dust concentrations were well below the occupational health standard of 10 mg/m$^3$, however, the levels were exceeding the ambient air standard recommended by the Korean Environment Administration. 4. All of airborne asbestos fiber concentrations were equal to or below 0.005 fibers/cc. The levels are within both occupational health standards and U.S. EPA criteria. 5. A consideration should be given to the improvements of cleaning methods (such as use of vacuum cleaning instead of brushing) and the existing ventilation (such as more air change and filtration of supply air) for a reduction of dust levels. 6. It is recommended that routine monitoring of airborne dusts and asbestos fibers be conducted because more dusts and asbestos fibers can be produced in the air due to the deterioration of facilities by age and water damage in future.

  • In this paper, the effect of solution and age heat treatment to the corrosion behavior for the Ti-6Al-4V alloy were studied by cyclic polarization methods. Ti-6Al-4V was solution heat treated at $1,066^{\circ}C$ and $966^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours, and followed by age heat treated at $650^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$ and $550^{\circ}C$ with 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 hours under vacuum environment. Test solution was 3.5% NaCl with temperature $25^{\circ}C$. The obtained results were as follows: 1. Base metal was exhibited higher electrical charge than that of solution and aged material. With decrease of solution-treatment temperature from 1066 to $966^{\circ}C$, the electrical charge was increased due to softening of micro structure. 2. The corrosion resistance of specimen that solution treated at $966^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours and age heat treated at 650, 660 and $550^{\circ}C$ were increased with increase of aging time to 4, 8 and 16 hours respectively, and then decreased. 3. In case of 316L stainless steel, measured charge and corrosion potential was 0.0627 coulomb and -614 mV respectively. Corrosion resistance of Ti-6Al-4V was higher than that of 316L.

  • In recent years, the companies of electric power equipment for MV and HV classes trend to develop the eco-friendly insulated(solid, eco-gas, air etc.) switchgear which replaces existent SF6 gas insulated switchgear due to environmental problems such as global warming and so on. This paper makes reference to the newly developed Solid Insulated Switchgear (SIS) which uses the eco-friendly material such as epoxy for insulation. The insulation of the solid insulated switchgear (SIS) is composed of an epoxy, vacuum and air. The solid insulated switchgear (SIS) is a slate of the art product. The advantages of SIS are advanced reliability, economical efficiency, safety, maintenance free, reduction of installation area and the protection of environment. The solid insulated switchgear (SIS) is FE Analyzed such as electromagnetic, mechanical, thermal and fluid in order to find the optimal design. Thens SIS has been verified by international standard test. (IEC 62271 - 100 and so on.) As a result of this, the solid insulated switchgear (SIS) has been estimated as an alternative for eco-friendly MV class switchgear.

  • The Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) has great advantages as an analytical technique, namely real-time analysis without sample preparation, ideal for mobile chemical sensor for space exploration. The LIBS plasma characteristics are strongly dependent on the surrounding pressure. In this study, seven types of target (C, Ti, Ni, Cu, Sn, Al, Zn) were investigated for their elemental lifetime. The target was located in vacuum chamber which has the pressure range of 760 to $10^{-5}$ torr. As the pressure is decreased, the elemental lifetimes of carbon and titanium declined, while all other targets showed increased lifetimes until reaching 1 torr and declined with continued pressure decrease. The boiling point and electronegativity amongst the physicochemical properties of the samples are used to explain this peculiarity.

  • This study investigated the high temperature oxidation behavior of Fe-22%Cr-5.8%Al alloy and the oxidation kinetics of the alloy were discussed. Bulk samples were prepared by VAM (vacuum arc melting) and hot forging. High temperature oxidation testes were isothermally conducted up to 100 hours in 79%$N_2$+21%$O_2$ environment at three different temperatures ($900^{\circ}C$, $1000^{\circ}C$, $1100^{\circ}C$). The weight gain was measured after oxidation according to oxidation time (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 60, 80, 100 hours). The weight gain significantly increased with increasing oxidation temperature. As the temperature increased, the oxidized samples showed sequential formation of $Al_2O_3$, Cr-rich oxide, Fe-rich oxide. The activation energy of high temperature oxidation was obtained as 306.63 KJ/mol. $Al_2O_3$ were developed on the surface in the early stage of oxidation, representing protective role of oxidation. However, Fe-based and Cr-based oxides leaded to breakaway of oxide layer, thus resulted in the significant increase of additional oxidation.

  • The effects of Cr, Mo or B additions were investigated on $B2{\leftrightarrow}DO_3$ structural transition temperature $(T_C)$ and mechanical properties of Fe-28at.%Al. The raw materials were arc-melted in vacuum and then subjected to the following heat-treatments to maximize the $DO_3$ ordered structure : $1000^{\circ}C/7days$, slowly cooled to $500^{\circ}C$ and then held for 5 days. In the effect on the grain refinment, the addition of alloying element B was the most effective. The addition of Cr or Mo had little effect. When 1at.%Mo was added, $T_c$ increase about $30^{\circ}C$, but Cr had a very little effect on $T_c$. On the contrary, when B was added, $T_c$ was apt to come down minutely. In the additional effect of alloying element on the mechanical properties, Cr was apt to decrease the microvickers hardness and yield strength, Mo and B didn't have much effect. In the case of compressure strength test, the effect of the environment on the yield strength was contrary to the result of the tensile strength test.

  • The random-based cleaning algorithm is a simple algorithm widely used in commercial vacuum cleaning robots. This algorithm has two limitations, that is, cleaning takes a long time and there is no guarantee that the cleaning will cover the whole cleaning area. This has lead to customer dissatisfaction. Thus, in recent years, many intelligent cleaning algorithms that takes into consideration information gathered from the cleaning area environment have been proposed. The plowing-based algorithm, which is the most efficient algorithm known to date when there are no obstacles in the cleaning area, has a deficiency that when obstacle prevail, its performance is not guaranteed. In this paper, we propose the Group-k algorithm that is efficient for that situation, that is, when obstacle prevail. The goal is not to complete the cleaning as soon as possible, but to clean the majority of the cleaning area as fast as possible. The motivation behind this is that areas close to obstacles are usually difficult for robots to handle, and hence, many require human assistance anyway In our approach, obstacles are grouped by the complexity of the obstacles, which we refer to as 'complex rank', and then decide the cleaning route based on this complex rank. Results from our simulation-based experiments show that although the cleaning completion time takes longer than the plowing-based algorithm, the Group-k algorithm cleans the majority of the cleaning area faster than the plowing algorithm.

  • This paper derives the insertion loss for the bubble layer of an air bubble curtain and an air masker which are used to reduce ocean anthropogenic noise such as the piling noise and the ship noise. The air bubble curtain is considered as a 'fluid-air bubble layer-fluid' model and the environment for the air masker is simplified as an 'vacuum-thin plate-fluid-air bubble layer-fluid' model. The air bubble layer in each model is assumed as the effective medium which has the complex wavenumber and the complex impedance corresponding to the bubble population distribution. The numerical simulations are performed to examine the insertion loss depending on the bubble population, the void fraction, and the thickness of the layer.
