The Vacuum Pressure Effects on Electrochromic Properties of Tungsten Oxide Thin Films by Electron Beam Evaporation (전자비임에 의해 제작된 WO$_3$ 박막의 전기적착색 특성에 대한 진공도의 효과)

  • The electrochromic WO$_3$ thin films were prepared by using an electron - beam evaporation technique. The influence of the electron - beam evaporation conditions. especially the vacuum pressure, and resistance of ITO substrate on the structural and electrochromic properties of the investigated film was presented. This films showed electrochromic behavior in an aqueous electrolyte of 1 M H$_2$SO$_4$. Among these WO$_3$ thin films, films prepared at a vacuum pressure of 10$^{-4}$ mbar were found to be most stable in terms of cycling durability. The chemical stability of film against dissolution in the aqueous solution was also shown to depend on the quantity of water in the film.

  • The thin metal films of Cr, Al, Mn and were made in various evaporation rates with 100\ulcornerthickness under 2x10**-9 bar vacuum level. We analized and discussed the relationships between changes of structure, morphology and sheet resistance, light transmittance for the corresponding evaporation rates. As the evaporation rates were decreased at higher rates, grain sizes of all film were decreased, however both of the sheet resistance and light transmittance were increased. At lower evaporation rate, films of Cr and Cu porduced non-stoi-chiometric oxides but Al an Mn showed up amorphous structures.

Evaporation Characteristics of Aluminum by Using Surface-treated Graphite Boat (표면처리된 흑연 보트를 이용한 알루미늄의 증발 특성)

  • Resistive heating sources are widely used to prepare thin films by vapor deposition because they are cheap, and easy to install and handle in vacuum system. Graphite is one of materials used to make the resistive heating source, but until now only limited applications have been possible as it reacts easily with evaporating materials at high temperature. In this study, evaporation characteristics of aluminum have been investigated by using graphite boat thermally treated with BN powder. The employed graphite boat has been prepared by spray-coating BN power onto the cavity surface of the boat and thermal treatment with aluminum in vacuum at the temperature of more than $1400^{\circ}C$. The voltage-current characteristics as well as resistivity changes of the graphite boat have been investigated during aluminum evaporation according to the applied voltage and time. The evaporation aspect has been picturized during flash evaporation for 40 seconds based on the characterization results. The evaporation rate of the graphite boat has been compared with that of BN boat. The graphite boat showed some different characteristics compared with BN boat, in that the evaporation occurred at the last stage of flash evaporation. The film appearance according to the applied voltage has been compared, and also the reflectance of the resulting film has been investigated according to the film thickness. It has been found that the graphite boat thermally treated with BN powder can be used for aluminum evaporation without problem.

The Analysis of the Discharging Characteristics and MgO protective layer by MgO Evaporation Rates for High-Efficiency PDP (MgO 증착률에 따른 PDP 보호막 물성 및 방전 특성 분석)

  • We have investigated and analyzed the effects of the evaporation rate of MgO films on the MgO properties and the discharge characteristics of a plasma display panel(PDP). The MgO properties such as the crystal orientation, the surface roughness, the film structure, and cathode-luminescence (CL) spectra were inspected using XRD (X-ray diffraction), AFM(atomic force microscopy). And the discharging characteristics of the PDP such as the firing voltage, discharging current, and luminescence were measured using a vacuum chamber with oscilloscope (TDS 540C), current probe (TCP-312A), color meter (CS-100A) and etc. From the experiments results we confirmed the optimum evaporation rate at $5{\AA}/sec$, the MgO properties were shown to be strongly dependent on the evaporation rate, and the MgO properties had an effecton the optical and electrical characteristics. In other words, if the evaporation rates increase than $5{\AA}/sec$, the intensity of (200) orientation and cathode-luminescence (CL) spectra reduce, and the firing vlotage was increased. So the luminuous efficiency grows worse.

  • AC PDP with MgO protective layer coated with the optimum evaporation rate of $5{\AA}/s$ can generate more enhanced efficiency through the vacuum in-line sealing process. However, the optimized process conditions still require the optimum driving scheme on the ramp-up and ramp-down slope of the reset waveform for enhancing the efficiency. In this paper, for the in-situ vacuum sealed PDP with the optimum evaporation rate of MgO protective layer, the address delay time was investigated with various slopes of ramp waveform during a reset ramp-up and ramp-down period. In this study, the minimum statistical delay time was obtained at the ramp-up rate of $6.0 V/{\mu}s$ and the ramp-down rate of $0.7 V/{\mu}s$ of the reset waveform.

E-beam evaporation을 이용하여 Si 기판위에 다양한 각도에 따라 성장된 $SiO_2$ 박막특성연구

  • $SiO_2$는 유전체 물질로서 고온에 강하고 열 변화에 민감하지 않으며 자외선을 잘 투과시키는 특성 때문에 각종 광전자 소자에 많이 응용되고 있다. 최근에는 classical thermal oxidation 방식을 이용하여 태양전지의 효율을 증가하기 위한 표면 보호막, 유기발광다이오드의 보호막 및 barrier로 적용되고 있다. $SiO_2$ 박막의 경우 RF-DC sputtering, thermal evaporation, plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition, E-beam evaporation 등의 다양한 방법을 통하여 제작되고 있다. 이들 중 E-beam evaporation 법은 높은 증착속도, 증착방향성, 낮은 불순물농도 등 많은 장점을 가지고 $SiO_2$ 박막 증착이 가증하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 Si 기판위에 $SiO_2$를 증착각도를 0$^{\circ}$, 25$^{\circ}$, 50$^{\circ}$, 70$^{\circ}$로 변화시켜 증착하였고, 증착속도, 빔 세기, 기판 회전속도 등을 변화시켰다. 또한, 증착 각도에 따른 유전율 차이를 무반사 특성 향상에 응용하기 위해 다양한 layer 층을 순차적으로 성장시켰다. 제작된 $SiO_2$의 나노구조의 구조적, 광학적 특성은 field emission scanning microscopy, atomic force microscopy, UV-VIS-NIS spectrophotometer를 이용하여 분석되었다.

Thermal Analysis on the LNG Storage Tank of LNG Bunkering System Applied with Double Shield Insulation Method (LNG 벙커링용 이중 단열적용 LNG 저장탱크 열해석)

  • An LNG bunkering system stores LNG in a horizontal IMO's C-Type tank insulated with perlite powder, and $10^{-2}$ Torr vacuum in the annular space between the double walls. Current storage tanks have high heat leakage, evaporating over 2.0% daily. A more efficiently insulated storage tank reducing the evaporation rate is required to develope. This research carried out thermal analysis on a new effective insulation method, i.e. double shield insulation system, that separates high super vacuum in the annular space between two tanks with a perlite vacuum in the back side of outer tank. This highly efficient insulation system obtained an evaporation rate of 0.16% per day under a $10^{-4}$ Torr vacuum. Even if the space loses its vacuum, the new insulation system showed a lower evaporation rate of 5.23% than the present perlite system of 4.9%.

Production Characteristics of Thermoelectric Film Produced by Vacuun Evaporation (진공증착에 의해 제조된 열전 박막의 제조 특성)

  • 열 진공 증착법(thermal vacuum evaporation)에 의해 p-형 열전박막을 $3{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}3{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr의 범위에서 유리 기판 위에 제조하였다. 제조된 박막의 전기저항은 고진공일수록 저항이 증가하였으며, $Bi_2Te_3$$Sb_2Te_3$상을 가지고 있었다. 박막의 조성은 기판의 위치에 따라 변화하였고, 원자 번호가 작을수록 위치의 영향이 크고, 반대로 원자번호가 큰 원소는 그 영향이 작았다. 또한 고진공에서 제조된 박막일수록 상대적으로 저진공에 비해 조성의 변화가 적게 나타났다.
